Just like you I believe in change. It's ridiculous that we have homeless people. Every Canadian should benefit from their government including those who are homeless!
You go Adrian! At it's most fundemental level goverments job is to create an enviornment that will allow all it's citizens to have the same opportunity to uplift themselfs. We need to keep reminding the goverment of this fact by speaking up for those who do not have the voice to do it themselfs.
It would be great if we could get communities to really start caring. That would make these programs even more sustainable. We've become to inward looking.Good luck and you get my vote :)
So most entries on this site have failed to keep me interested past the 15 second mark; I watched yours in its entirety. Great points, and excellent use of both 'dude' and 'boo ya' in a political speech.
Now, some Canadians are opposed to paying for anything that doesn't directly benefit them, never mind the people they kick on street corners on their way to work. What are your funding suggestions for this plan?
1/4 Thanks for the comments :) Thanks for bringing up the whole issue of funding. Considering all the costs of the facilities, I think the best source of funding would be the Federal and Provincial governments. Now, it's easy to pass the buck and just say "They'll cover it!" but that's not exactly realistic.
2/4 However, I do think that it is the duty of the Canadian government(s) to help Canadians, and therefore the funding should originate with the government(s). Well, if this truly becomes a national concern then the federal and provincial governments should make the funding available, by either consolidating a portion of the funds used to support similar social programs, or by taking away, if necessary, a certain percentage from other areas.
Other funds should also come from the cities/towns wherein homelessness is an issue. I would propose a gradual shift of existing resources invested in social areas to help with running the facilities (since the facilities would, in essence, be taking that same action to a further level). Finally, existing social programs (run by religious, social, or humanitarian organizations) could help supply volunteers, counsellors and supplies, which would help cut down costs.
4/4 That's what I had in mind, but I'm rather open to other suggestions. You're definitely right that many people don't like their money going into somebody else's pocket, but I think that increased advocacy on this issue will help to change people's perceptions of homelessness from "someone else's problem" to "OUR problem that can be helped", and might result in increased city/rural aid.

Homeless in Canada? Deport them.
Homeless Canadians? Revoke their Citizenship.
Problem solved.
Great work bud.

I'd vote for him. Who doesn't want a Prime Minister who's more concerned with the issues than if his collar is tucked in!?
