This is.....so very marvellous, this rendition gives me tears , goosebumps and short breath one after another in no predictable order.....what a magnificent ensemble of musicians!!!! It makes me feel once more why a metalhead like me keeps being attracted by Vivaldi´s music!
I love how such a small vocal ensemble can produce a wall of sound. It shows what proper training, breathing, and the use of your diaphragm can achieve, Really a great sound. Superb interpretation
@slothfat I don't think so, a viola da gamba (basso) is a bit more slender than this cello, it has 7 snares and is also a bit longer. There is a large number of varieties, you can easily be mistaken.
this is sooo amazing. I always wanted to go to a musical theatre. And i wanted to learn violin so I can be in those musical theatre and be famous of it. :DD
this is actually the opening to the final fugue, using the material of the first movement recycled, typical baroque format (see Bach Magnificat). By the way, the wonderful tapering down of volume at the end of the prelude there was fabulous!
Note the candles at 0:33 and 3:09 Was this recorded in more than one take? The performance is good, but I don't care for the way they dress. Blue Light Special in the Shirt and Sleeveless Black Cocktail Dress Departments?
I looked at these places and solid-put also a "jump" with the first once as if was cut badly here. But with the second and repeated passes once this jump was away. I therefore suspect that this Phenomenon originated through being converted.
raffzee gloria en excelsis deo and quoniam tu solus sanctus are part of the song titled gloria... kitstr is correct,,, the gloria that we sang in church thats the english translation of it..
This is confusing me. This is a mixture of the Gloria in Excelisis Deo and the Quoniam tu solus Sanctus??? Which one is it? Or did Vivaldi write another variation?
This is not the entire Gloria, only the last couple of movements. He uses practically every sentence as a different movement. He repeated the word "gloria" becuase he returned to the first theme. The words in this clip are "(Gloria gloria) Quoniam tu solus Sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus altissimus Jesu Christe. Cum Sancto Spiritu in gloria Dei Patris. Amen."
Kann hier mal jemand das Video auf die richtige Seite stellen?? - Oder bin ich etwa betrunken, oder gar mein PC?? - Das habe ich ja noch nicht erlebt! - Ansonsten prima gesungen!
an enjoyable listening experience..those accompanying instruments! We sung..Sanctus spiritu acapella; quite delighted to listen to this..Excellent indeed!
and rich sound. You are a very talented group of singers! I went back to my college choir concert last night and they also performed Gloria. Gorgeous piece. Come and perform in Boston soon! : )
Fabulous instrumentals, and great singing. Truly beautiful. However, what on earth's going on with the lyrics? They seem to have completely changed the words. Has this just been done for this recording, or is this a version I simply don't know. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Judging from the CBC logo in the corner, I can understand that this had to be edited for television, but did they REALLY have to screw with the first movement THAT much? The lyrics aren't even the same! And jumping straight to Cum Sancto Spiritu... It is a nice performance, but I don't think it's fair to label only the first and last movements as Vivaldi's Gloria.
The Gloria is made up of several lines of sacred text, the first being "Gloria in excelsis deo". The rest of the text is standard mass ordinary junk which you can google if ya really want. This mvmt, just before the cum sancto spiritu, is the setting of "Quoniam tu solus sanctus" which Tony, prolly for lack of time and energy, used the same material from the first mvmt. It also fits the text pretty well, but hey, who cares as long as you enjoy the music, right? :D
@Sorenman they didn't actually edit the first movement, the Quoniam is actually the 11th movement coming right before the Cum Sancto Spiritu, Vivaldi just used the same material for both the 1st and 11th movements. So what we're hearing here is just the last two movements, as they were written. But I understand, it can be confusing if you're not really familiar with the work !
The musicians and singers are absolutely awesome and the music transcending. They sound much better than large orchestra and chorus. I could imagine this is what Vivaldi had in mind.

my choir of about 100 and some people sang this in an Orchestra Hall, the acoustics were amazing. There was a feeling of being on top of the world. An amazing piece love it :)
This chorus, while technically proficient, is clearly not well versed in Baroque style—this recording is completely void of the specific gestural nuance which is so characteristic of historically informed Baroque performance. . . Rather unsatisfying in my opinion!
I bet you'd say different if this was performed in a church with a bigger acoustic.
Everything one wish to play in a small room or studio like this would sound dull.
This choir is indeed not speciallized in baroque choral music. The majority of their repertoire was written in the renaissance. So one could say this performance is too smooth, too soft, too romantic^^ etc.
I can only imagine how this would sound in a big cathedral or something...
Which edition of the Gloria is this? He wrote three. THE Vivaldi is 589 - which this is not. Lovely all the same - but if you could specidy the edition whould be much obliged.
if I understand what you say, the answer is: this is a part of Vivaldi's Gloria 589, in particular they are "Quoniam tu Solus Sanctus" followed by "Cum Sancto Spiritus" and they are the last two pieces of Vivaldi's Gloria 589.
