There is a blatant contradiction in this man's message, since he ridicules people's religious beliefs, and then tries to deliver his own version of what those beliefs should be.
He is teaching religion. Just a different flavor..
@gjsterp He's laying out Jesus message, not any sort of personalized religion. If by different flavor you mean the actual true gospel then I would agree. We've had enough of watered down religion, it's time to take Jesus seriously.

There are man made denominations out there that don't quite like what Jesus says because it doesn't line up with the nice cozy life they want. So they take scripture out of context and bend it so it meets their agenda. What's being preached here is nothing to tickle the ears, it's what Jesus says.
There shouldn't be denominations in all honesty, if we all truly believe Jesus is Lord then we can all gather around that.

Kingdom people are to seek the truth, wherever it is found, and walk in that truth or light. the religions of the world have no light or they have a very dim light. I believe what greg is doing is waking us up to the fact that we should not 'settle in' to any one religion but rather to seek God for ourselves. amen?

His message is still good, but it should make another leap, that away from belief in an afterlife. Jesus left us a message to live by, not to die by or for.

He didn't come to persecute and advance nationalism and violence, he served people, loved people, that couldn't deserve it less. And in doing so he was victorious over the kingdoms of this world that feel that violence and holding power over people is somehow going to bring about peace. Jesus came to open our eyes to how things were always meant to be, not lording over people, but serving from beneath.
Greg Boyd is a very accepting, peace-oriented Christian and philosopher (Ph.D. philosopher who studied at Yale and Harvard). He accepts scientific data (e.g. he's an evolutionist), he rejects eternal damnationism, and he is wonderful for many other reasons.

Everyone wants their OWN "true gospel"?
Where is his message any different from the other 1000s of messages?
Take what you need and leave the rest behind?
That is what it amounts to.
He has embraced the parts important to him.
