Oh no my least favourite version of the olympian with the cummins L10 engine glad first manchester have replaced all their example the K888 ones but replaced them with tuneless B9TLs. Did you catch the F---DRJ ones the last ones with 6LXB engines fitted. I don't seem to stray onto Wilmslow Rd or the 85 or 86 route.
I have to agree its not the best cummins l10 engine I have heard, its just the way it is on these olympians! Still, couldnt stop listneing to this video though!!
I've never seem to like late 80s cummins engines as all the old lancashire engines from gardner and leyland were on the way out. The TL11 engine went first and replaced by the cummins L10 the the Gardner examples failed the Euro emisisons regulations in 1992 and went out of business. Shame the never buses aren't built locally anymore.
I didn't go on an F-DRJ then, but have been on them before. There are still some I need to go on and I hope to get on them soon. Warrington have some similar with their H-RWX batch.

A bus driver told me that the gardener olympians were a lot more efficient on fuel consumption than the cummins ones.. do you know if this is true?

Gardener engines do have better MPG's and in the 1970 SELNEC found the garders more ecomonical than a leyland 680 engine.

I prefer the Cummins L10 / Voith 4 Speed combo that the GNE Olympians had. Lovely sound.
