Honest Assessment: I've had an M15X for a year and I am seriously NOT impressed with the performance: BSODs within just 2 months of arrival, choppy framerates, and shutdowns due to overheating.
The only thing installed is games, MS Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Used for gaming only.
I expected MUCH more for what I paid (USD $1,400) and the "Alienware" reputation.
I will definitely NOT BUY another Alienware. It looks nice though.

@GNRgalaxynewsradio You should check out alienware's website and see what it offers. You can customize your laptop. Of course, the m17x is the 'best' of the three, being a bigger laptop it can be fitted with bigger fans and other better software. The m15x and m17x are close in comparison, but the m11x is far from the two performance-wise.

great review, i got one of these in the mail a few weeks ago and it is the coolest laptop ive ever owned. Runs all my games on max settings with no lag it's awesome.
@Aksl8 i run WoW on max ultra settings with my m15x and it runs flawlessly. I've noticed in deepholm when on ultra settings that my GPU sometimes hits up to like 65c in temperature but besides that it runs smooth.

@insane23rd I'd suggest you clone the hard drive onto the SSD that way you don't need to reinstall the OS and all your drivers etc. You'll save a lot of time. Check out my Laptop SSD Upgrade video, or some of the other guides out there.

Cool thing about buying this machine from PC world is they have this thing called "No interest free credit for 6 months" What if means is they will give you the laptop straight away. What they tell me is though you have to pay 10% of the total price of the machine, so if it costs £1000 pounds, you pay £100 pounds and you take it home :)
But you have to pay the rest within that 6 months :)

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 17r 6Gb of ram and 640 Gb of memory. I have sony vegas and it runs my editing software just fine. I'd say if you want to get a good lap top for school and movie editing this is the way to go.
@Caboose2214 yep, there are a lot of good options. you don't have to go with alienware to get a good machine! alienware will get you some perks like the lighting and nice chassis, but if all you are about is the machine you can definitely save some cash.

@dfceltics20 guess that depends on personal preference. If your always on the move and want to take your computer with you, then a laptop would be perfect. A desktop is considered to be more powerful and houses more room for upgrades, and you aren't limited to the size of display you can get. Whatever you decide, both can be customized to have the same specs.
I'm so stuck between this version and the M11x version. this version is a nice size but personally i think it's too thick. While the M11x version isn't thick, it's also too small. Help anyone?

@musicman208 depends on the components you go with, but if you aren't gaming with it you'll be happier with the MacBook pro--it's thinner, lighter, and has a better battery life.

This laptop is really the best i've ever come across. I bought one a few months back, and it runs everything together. I got 8 gbs of ddr3, i7 quad core @ 1.73mhz, and NViDA 260 Graphics card. Build really solid and made for serious gamers, video editors, graphic designers, or developers. It handles final cut pro, after effects, photoshop, MAMP. and firefox together with no problem. (hackintosh snow leopard + win7 dual boot). That's power... M17x is too big to me, the m15x is pretty big already.

@ThePcBear base price is £999 or $1500 but thats with a i3 after you uprade you will definitly pay more i ended up paying £3000 just have a look on dell and select what components you want and it dispalys the price. hope this helps

@dfceltics20 guess that depends on personal preference. If your always on the move and want to take your computer with you, then a laptop would be perfect. A desktop is considered to be more powerful and houses more room for upgrades, and you aren't limited to the size of display you can get. Whatever you decide, both can be customized to have the same specs.

I'm so stuck between this version and the M11x version. this version is a nice size but personally i think it's too thick. While the M11x version isn't thick, it's also too small. Help anyone?

Is anyone experiencing delay in delivery of this laptop?
I ordered mine on 17 November with original delivery date as 30 November. 2 days ago they changed it to 22 December...that's a massive delay! I know they are custom building but 5 weeks is a very long time. Anyone know how I can persuade Dell to build it faster?

@musicman208 depends on the components you go with, but if you aren't gaming with it you'll be happier with the MacBook pro--it's thinner, lighter, and has a better battery life.

@modder03 macs r actually amazing.. they r super fast.. dont over heat.... and whisper quiet.... the graphics r amazing for games (if u play them) they r really good for just about anything in my opinion but yea the alienwares r still much better for gaming

I ordered this same laptop. but instead of the i3 i went with the i7 so it will run much smoother for gaming. its worth the extra $300 if your a gamer.

@lileonraymond if you're a big gamer both paid or free games i suggest go for the alienware. apple is a great choice also but it kinda sucks if you're into free games cause most of them are for windows =/

This laptop is really the best i've ever come across. I bought one a few months back, and it runs everything together. I got 8 gbs of ddr3, i7 quad core @ 1.73mhz, and NViDA 260 Graphics card. Build really solid and made for serious gamers, video editors, graphic designers, or developers. It handles final cut pro, after effects, photoshop, MAMP. and firefox together with no problem. (hackintosh snow leopard + win7 dual boot). That's power... M17x is too big to me, the m15x is pretty big already.
