This place is the best way to stereotype alaska for being cold..... This is not the everyday alaska! this is the farthest north you can go! I live in a dak, rains alot not too cold... Heck in fairbanks a few years ago it was up to around 90 F!!
@thewhaler20 i like the -40C part, since its the same as -40F......how do u survive the cold that far north......im from the south and have seen -F weather once in my life
June, and it still looks cold. The record high for this month (September) in my city is 110F. Record low is 50F. The coldest ive ever seen the thermometer was in January and it was 31 degrees.
when I was their aug 09 I got called nigger and all the cussing their is and I'm white. The video is still rite on the color of things haha, I call them Ice niggers,
@Mr2pacalypse Odd that I live in Barrow, I'm white, and have no problems at all. Matter of fact I've been invited by the captain of one of the whaling crews to join in if they get a whale this Fall hunting season.
LMAO! Never has there been a movie that failed more miserably to represent the town it took place in! Barrow has no sherriff, it's got 4600 people, you can fly there any day of the year, in winter the sun gets close enough to the sky to make it so that it's not pitch black all the time, etc.
I love Barrow and the feeling of freedom. I haven't lived there, I've lived in Wainwright, Alaska (a very small village) but I've visited Barrow a lot. My aaka (grandma in Inupiaq) lives there and I love to visit her and just run around.
No one has made fun of me, yet, because I'm half white also. Maybe it's because I look more Inupiaq.
When my dad was up there; when he met my mom, he was harassed so much. I know how to fight back though! =P
I just applied for a travel nurse position for Barrow. Ironically, my dtr met her husband there (a story in itself!). I long (& prayed) for the opportunity to care and LEARN from this beautiful, STRONG, people. Think good thoughts for me & thank you for sharing. (Altho, I look forward to seeing the white/blue of snow/ice)
Wow, that looks ummm.....very desolate. I think personally, I would go nuts if I had to live there...Plus, I'm more of a summer person and I dont like the cold one bit. But very interstesting clip nonetheless...
Alaska in very easy to navagate from city to city. It does have a very large amount of back country that requires alternative methods of navigation. As for the temp., I was there in June and the temps. were in the 80s and 90s. When I traveled above Coldfoot the temp. did start to drop and was in the low 20s when I arrived in Barrow.
i wished that i was raised there!!! lol. im 1/2 eskimo but i was raised in ketchikan. lol. my biological family is from there.... seems nice place to live lol. my mom is martha bushnell
haha im from barrow..i was born and raised there, those who say its a "shit" hole..thats not true, they just didn't know what was good. OUR ESKIMO CULTURE. my mom's Francine Hopson a crew member of the HOPSON 2 CREW(: im her first daughter! i love barrow and being eskimo, i have so much pride for it! i hope you ppl visit there..its WONDERFUL(: quyanapuk!THANK YOU-in english
Barrow is located on a rare thing--a region that is both a desert and a wetland! It's a desert because so little precipitation falls there, only a few inches a year. It's a wetland because it's a very flat area, and since the ground is frozen most of the year, the water never gets a chance to drain. Tundra is like a frozen swamp.
i miss aaka and aapa...and sonet...um yeah...to me barrow still is awesome...sunny as can be and barrow to me has the most beautiful forever sunset in the summers.
im not crazy about barrow some people are so crappy their and some of their houses {sivver} and some inupiats their are racis they think their all that trust me I lived up in barrow for 5 years and fuck am I glade to be out of that hellish void
I've been wanting to go there and live for awhile...my understanding is that the people up there don't really like whitey...and it wouldn't be a good i dea. any thoughts on that?
It is a very interesting place. I am sure the people living there like it but the cold, wind and no green anywhere did not appeal to me. I am very glad to have visited for a short period.
wow my mom worked at the police department
