This song would always make me cry. I was 14 when this movie came out.I believe i remember turning on the tv at the time I thought this song was coming on because it was my favorite part of the movie.

Such a sad scene of this movie...sam played song in the bar with kate emotionally touched on the music with tears of joy and miseries. As I watch and hear this scene, my emotion was also affected and I was about into tears.

I remember going to the movies when i was 12 to see this film.

Even watching it today it still manages to make me choke on my tears,

its such a tearjerker.

This song is proberly one of the most heartfelt and moving songs i have ever heard.

And of course cliff de young is amazing..

I was only 8 when this was a movie and later a tv show spin off but I remembered what it was about. I think I was a mature 8 yr old back then. We had to discuss this moive in class.

We have to remember the Mother in the story was only 20 years old, making decisions....I remember being 20, I think we all make poor judements in life. As to why she didn't decide to keep her life over her leg, only she knows....but I think people with serious illnesses, have their reason why they make the choices they do.....Until we walk in their shoes, its kind of tough to predict. Was a great movie though...Personally, to me, the bummer part of the movie was her dying alone.

Between "Sunshine" and "Sunshine Christmas" there was a short-lived series on NBC, taking place after the death of the heroine (C. Raines) in which Cliff De Young as the widower goes on as a single dad-folk-singer (Bill Mumy and Corey Fischer reprise roles as band-mates). Lovely Meg Foster as Nora the neighbor lady. Critical hit, but low ratings killed it despite thousands of letters begging NBC to keep it on. Way ahead of its time. If anyone has copies of episodes, lemme know!!!

This movie always annoyed me. A young mother learns she has cancer in her leg and must have it removed or die, She decides she cannot live without her leg and refuses to have it removed. Her husband is a struggling musician and since she wants her young daughter to remember her - she records messages on a tape recorder. She left her child behind, motherless for vanity. I felt so sorry for the woman's family.  But, she was so vain -

I had little sympathy for her.

Yes, that was one thing that always bothered me about it, too. It was a terribly sad, poignant movie, and I enjoyed it. But if she'd followed her doctor's recommendations in the first place, she might still be alive and well, even though she would have had to adjust to living without one leg.

I am glad that someone else interpreted this movie the same way. There is not way I would leave my children behind for my leg. Also, I did not appreciate the slant that this woman was somehow a hero for not following doctors' recommendation. She failed her child, I thought. However, the movie was deep and thoughtful. She took the road less traveled and that changed the course of all of their lives.

I loved this movie also, and like many I have been trying to track the DVD down as well. Did you know there was a follow up of this movie, with the dad and his daughter. I loved that one as well. I think in was called "Little Lady " or something like that.
