@TheCodyx7 started happening about an hour ago, gonna be happenning for the next several. First time in 300+ years we have a lunar eclipse on a solstice :)
Awesome! I realize the moon moves, but woulnd't it be possible to align all the pictures to make the video smoother? Just wondering... check my time lapses by searching "time lapse experiment #19", "time lapse experiment #21" or "aprado17" in YouTube. Cheers!
good work! we see a different angle of the moon down her in Australia. I filmed the moon that night too but have not edited it up because it takes sooooo long to do. Well done to you.
@andrewthehedgehog911 :I know it why it turn red first it turns dark then the sun reflect his shine on the moon and it turns red because the sun's color is kinda red,ok dont you got it
Just amazing... and song just made it perfect... I've seen 2 lunar eclipse and one solar(live, not on tv or anything)... i would want 2 see the 1 happening on august 1st 2008... (just 2 make the scores even :-p)
Uhhh...I don't think there will be another one until 2012. Yeah...so if you missed this year there isn't a next year until 2012. I am almost positive that I heard that. Anyway...yes it was even more beautiful to watch live and in person. No offense, this was great too, but looking up into the dark sky filled with stars and seeing this brownish red ball was an awsome sight. I have seen many lunar eclips but this one was definitly different.
let's just hope the story behind 2012 isn't true. f you don't know what i'm talking about then search "2012" in the search bar and watch the first vid.then watch the myth behind the crystal skulls. and, btw, no i did not get crystal skulls form that indiana jones movie. the movie was, in fact, based off of the legend of the crystal skulls. the crystal skulls are real btw. search it up on this here site and watch some vids on it.then wikipedia and google and such.
lol i missed it. i looked outside 4 a few minutes and it didnt look like anything so it went inside. the next day my friend told me the moon turned red, and i didnt believe him until now....
Dammit! Ok....I was wrong. I forgot this is timelapse. It was just a planet or star passing by due to the earth's rotation. Sorry if I alarmed anyone......LOL.
OK....look closely at 1:00 on the moon's 5o'clock position. There is clearly a UFO coming out from behind the moon. I saw this in a number of videos from this particular eclipse. Don't deny the alien presence.....we are NOT alone!
the way i might say dis might sound stupid. But i seen a eclipse but exactly i dont know what it is. is it i dont know what is it i know it the moon but how do it change colors and how does half of it move away
sunlight reflects off the moon and bounces back to your eyes. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and Moon, the dark shadow you are seeing is our shadow travelling across the face of the moon. The colour change is due to some light filtering through our atmosphere from the sun. I think lol.
Yeah i agree, But its the best dramatic song ever, and it fits the video. 0.56sec-1.06 is nicest. all i can think about is the interview with a vampire movie.
No actually, you're talking about a solar eclipse. During a lunar eclipse, the Earth goes between the sun and moon. The moon turns red because the passing sunlight scatters the Earth's blue light onto the moon.
Very well done. We had a ringside seat in New Zealand, but passing showers in Auckland. I got stills from the beginning to maximum occultation (SP-550UZ with x1.7 teleconverter).
its really great to see the things in life that many people would just ignore. your not living until you really expierience with nature and the world.
Haha, actually this one was for me. I was born on a full moon so the moon has always caught my attention. I happened to look up when the next eclipse would take place where I live and it was like 2012 or something so I figured I didn't have to many chances to do this. YT and the eclipse just happened to coincide :)
very nicework for your first time with the moon. thanks for staying up all night to share this with us. really liked the choice of music. I found this through your "turkey" video, great job, thanks for sharing.
The way I understand it is that what we see as white light is actually many colors (you see them using a prism). So when the moon is in the Earth's shadow, just like a prism, the red wavelength is the one that bends around the Earth and so indirectly illuminates the moon red. If someone has a better explanation please add it on :)
One other thing. If you watch an eclipse in person, the entire moon is visible the whole time. The white part of the moon is reflected sunlight and is just as bright as the sun from the cameras point of view. So the red shadowed area is washed out in photos until most of the moon is behind the Earth :)
I'm glad I was able to record the event so you didn't have to miss it. I hope everything is headed in a positive direction with your health and I will definitely be sending positive thoughts your direction. Take care :)

Thank you for filming and editing this eclipse with such care and then sharing it with everyone. i had originally intended on watching the eclipse as it happened, but my baby boy derailed my plans by deciding he wanted to be born in the middle of it. :) i plan on showing him this clip when he gets old enough to appreciate the coincidence of his birth.
If you're going to miss it, I can't think of a better excuse.
Now how's this for another coincidence. I was also born on a full moon. He's got me beat with the eclipse thou, lol. Congratulations, and I'm glad I will be a part of your childs memories :)
Lunar eclipses usually happen at least twice a year, but aren't necessarily seen everywhere when they do occur. (For example, this eclipse couldn't be seen in Africa, parts of western Asia, etc.) However, this particular eclipse was the longest one in 7 years.
where i live it was too early in the morning to see it but in december it will be our turn to see it around two and california will now be the ones who cant see it!
I didn't use the "cube". I just aimed the camera so the moon was towards the left side of the viewfinder and took pictures as it moved across the screen. Thanks dodgechef. It wasn't my initial choice but after sitting outside in the dark staring at one object all night, it just fit. One lone instrument played very slowly pretty much sums up watching an eclipse.
squeedull, your welcome. When I first thought about doing this, all I could envision was it being cloudy, but the weather in SoCal was perfect. Thanks for the comment.

Actually its not a lnar exlipse its a Solar Eclipse
clasygirl12 3 years ago
Clasygirl12, it is Lunar Eclipse.
Solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between earth and sun. So basically, the moon blocks the view of the sun.
Whereas...
Lunar eclipse is when the moon passes through some part of earth's shadow. Which is show in this video.

no, the earths atmospheres bends the suns rays into the umbra, which then make the moon look orange
