I've seen fargo so many times and yet this last time it felt like I'd never seen this scene... It just made the movie even better to me. They're trying to talk him out of going through with the job LOL One of the best movies ever.
@DanW900 No, I doubt that. He worked for his father-in-law as a car salesman. He has no business sense (nor any other sense for that matter) and really is a pathetic character. I don't know what got him into trouble in the first place, but I get the idea that Mr Gunderson (I think that was his name, not sure) thought he was a joke. William H. Macy did a fantastic job portraying Jerry as the dufus that he was. Great casting!
@DanW900 No way hun!! Remember how he didn't give him a loan of $750,000.00 to open a Car Lot. If he found out that Jerry was in trouble, he may have helped him work a budget but he wouldn't have helped him. He may have said, you're going to have to move into a Smaller House and with the Money saved you can pay off your debts.
What I love about Coen Brothers movies are that you HAVE to see them more than once. The first watch is to get what message or purpose they have, then the rest are for enjoyment.
First time watching Fargo, I didn't really get it. Now I think it's absolutely brilliant. So many parallels amongst characters. So much meaning. Amazing acting. Dark comedy. Absolutely frightening parts. Short and sweet. Great music. Oh, and it's an example where a simple story may be one of the best.
Damn...I love this movie...I could watch it all day...From the beginning and how it already started off wrong...at one point...the suspects even felt sorry and tried to change jerry's mind...
For years I always wondered how or why Jerry was having "financial issues". The movie never specifically elaborated, not that it is important to know why anyway.
@comedygold I think it's rather complicated. My guess is that Jerry was looking to make a quick score with the kidnapping to cover the bulk of the buy in cash for the parking lot deal. What's more, he'd already started the ball rolling by defrauding the GMAC (the vehicle he gives to the thugs). A tangled web he weaved that eventually swallowed him all up.
I just moved to Grand Forks from Phoenix in August and I hadn't seen this movie again since I moved up here. I about barfed from laughter after I saw the part where Jerry walks in to his father-in-law-watching hockey: "Whatya' watching there?" "Gophers." "Who they playin'?" "SSSSSIIIooooooouiiiiiix." Soundtrack, story, characters, plot, visuals make this movie one of my favorites.
@phoenixicarus Wow, why would you do that? I'm from the Twin Cities and really hate the cold. I always have. I live in Las Vegas and New Mexico for 4 year between the two and Colorado for 3. I know Colorado is cold sometime, but Minnesota is very cold sometimes in the winter. The snow can be beautiful, but sometime the cold is too much. My guess is the people for the most part are nicer in Minnesota and in Phoenix in some ways. But, I still love the southwest better sometimes in term of weather.
We're looking for volunteers to participate in a university study of Fargo and its spectatorship. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. Research results will be shared in the future. Just cut & paste the following link (and take out the spaces) to get to the survey. Thanks!

I live in Duluth, MN...I've heard from people from other parts of the vcountry that some of the dialogue in the movie kinda sounds like us, but most of it is inaccurate...(TheHeckYaMeeeeeeeeeen???)
Another inaccuracy about the movie, if you are not from Minnesota. Marge Gunderson says she's leaving Minnespolis late in the movie, and going for a 'drive around Moose Lake' on her way to Brainerd. That would take a day and a half. Moose Lake is like two hours from Brainerd
Actually, the Moose Lake referred to in the movie is the small Moose Lake Township located in Cass County, Minnesota just west of Brainerd, not the actually town of Moose Lake.
The title reveal is fantastic. The car goes by, the pan to the snow, the letters fading in with the music climaxing, I can't help but get chills every time.
Lol thank you. Some else has already told me earlier today. I appreciate your help.
Personaly, i think this movie is incredible. Watch it for yourself. Tons of foul language ect... but a bold and interesting story not afraid to test the limits.
Anyone know the movie with william h.macy were he is in detroit or somewhere like that. And he starts off as a regular guy then becomes a maniac? I remeber him buying a knife with brass knuckles on it and beating up some dude trying to mug him. Then he killed a prostitute, and finally got locked in jail were a black man was about to rape him. I also believe his wife left him in the story. (not sure though)
Its a David Mamet story directed by Stuart Gordon (Re-animator). i never saw it but i know its one of those movies people either really love or really hate(mostly its hated).
i personally think it was really dumb they did that. I thought it was so crazy when i thought it was true,...but when i found out it wasn't, the effect of the movie went way down

BASED on a true story. My Aunt told me that story when I was a kid, long before Fargo was released, because she lives three blocks down from where the guy was actually wood chipped. Crazy.
Actually the Coens have come out and said they made the whole thing up. They took the idea of wood chipper from a story of a guy who killed his wife and wood chipped her off a bridge in to a lake.
Everything else in the movie is complete fabrication, but they felt no one would doubt it because this kind of thing could happen and sometimes does.
The scene you need is when jerry walks out to scrape the ice of his car. The shot of the car at such a high angle. That is my most favorite shot of all time.
