It's still extremely beautiful though. I wish we had an old quarter like this in Oslo, but we don't.. Oslo is just a really ugly city, maybe THE ugliest capital in Europe. I wish we had the "old-fahsioned" feeling that Madrid has!

This is a beautiful presentation. We will be visiting Madrid soon. Can anyone tell me if it is ture that the evening meal is eaten at 10pm and there are parties all night long? I am old and in bed by 9 and am a little concerned about being able to get a restful night's sleep.

Yes, meals are generally taken later in the evening than we (North Americans) are used to. And yes, locals tend to stay up later, especially in the summer time. In fact, it was quite a shock for me to see entire families - grandparents and babies included - up at 11 PM in the streets.  Eating ice cream and otherwise hanging out.

As for getting a restful sleep, though, I don't think you have to worry. Worry more about the heat (as in, get an air conditioned room!). Any room with AC should be quiet enough for sleep. And meals you can get anytime.

OBVIAMENTE creo que está claro que esa no es la hora de desayunar los días de trabajo. Creo que es un vídeo turístico titulado"Verano en Madrid" y, por tanto, hablamos de un día de asueto y relajación que bien podría ser de vacaciones.

A diario el que trabaje desayunará con tiempo suficiente como para poder llegar a tiempo al trabajo. A las 08:00 desayunará quien a las 08:00 le de tiempo porque... ¿qué pasa si trabajas a las 07:00? Yo entro a las 09:00 y a las 08:00 hora espero al tren...

I would suggest you study your world history, you'd see that what the Spanish Empire did in the new world was not an isolated incident. The British and the French were just as arrogant, demeaning, in Africa and in Asia. It would not have mattered if the English got to the Philippines first. By the way, me and my husband actually roamed thru Spain for about a month in March. Mardrid and Toledo we visited but we also explored the non-touristy towns of Andalucia, around Granada, Malaga, Costa Blanca. We found the people to be nice and so family-oriented and placed the working hard as second priority to family and having fun! By the way, statistics show they're the most long-lived people in Europe. At same time, cocaine is more used there, too. oh well....can't have everthing, can you?
