  • I do competitive gymnastics and my coach pushes me down in middle splits really far! I cry sometimes cause it really hurts! Is there anything that could help me not cry?

  • @CompPowerTumbler maybe......if you drop out your coach and stretch alone.....you'll develop your flexibility....but it will be slower....depends also of the time you have to stretch.....

  • I'm pretty flexible, but my body type has way too much musculature to arrive at this insane state of pliability. kudos for those who have the patience and endurance for this training.

  • at first i thought she was lying on her back and i was like "OMG! how can u not go farther?!?!" but then when the video zoomed in i relized SHE WAS ON HER STOMACH!!! that is DEFINETLY an oversplit!!

  • Yeah that's what they do. U push yourself into pain, but in the end ur really flexible but it takes time to get good.... Iv been stretching for the splits and I take the pain matter what! I just stay in a painful position then after a while it doesn't hurt as bad... But u get very sore Like me 3 days later:))) lol I'm still doing it:) and I STILL am not fully into the splits! Haha but almost!

  • of course you can't. when you can do a split, then you can try the oversplit.

  • I learned how to do regular splits by doing oversplits, i know that doesn't make any sense, but by putting my leg up on one chair, it pushed me down so much i was able to get splits within 2 days.

  • well everyone is different, my legs were much more easier to get flexible than my back was.

  • I know what you mean, I was so determined to do the splits when I was 11, I refused to go to bed one night untill i'd done them! I really don't know HOW I managed it in one night, but I did.

  • @exsportsplexgymnast Well I was using a matress on its side to press down with (it was for straddle splits) and yes I just sat there and forced myself further and further down. Ouch! But yay!

  • when i stretch for the middle splits i get a pain on the inside my knees so it stops me from stretching the muscles...anyone know why?

  • i think it can be a ligament issue. I have the same issue....but at 26 i think its just due to lack of stretching....when i was 11-12 I trained for middle splits with over splits over 2 chairs...now after 2 years of non training I can't even go on with after 30mins of re-stretching otherwise it hurts compared with months....

    I highly suggest you take it slowly and if problem persist, check out with the doc and a P-trainner

  • Finally people that also want to be pushed like this.I want to be pushed like this.but nooooo here in america the caoches would be thrown in jail in two seconds if we got anywhere near this kind of training. im an artistic and rythmic gymnast and i suck compared to some russian and chinese gymnasts that are younger than me.and im only ten.

  • i agree....i'm no gymnast and can stretch more than anyone at 26. But I can't do my splits with ease anymore as if I was 12-24. These last 2 years have really taken everything i put in at 11....

  • I got my splits when I was 18. I started dancing at 17 and Im 21 now and as I stretch I kep getting more flexible. I think people lose their flexibility cuz they stop stretching like they used too because usually they don't have time.

  • wow girl! most girls I know aren't that fun and exciting or flexible like u are. I agree with you 100% about not stretching and not making time for it.

    I used to put it off and now, I don't allow myself to. I ahve to stretch daily at least once - twice a day. (maybe a 5-6 times a week) and its getting easier again but I know now u can't stop. Just ahve to keep doing it.

  • I agree....I'm in canada and wish it can get more intense....but now at 26 its soo much harder to keep it intense since I feel body is reaching its summit....words of advice, train extra hard, push your mind to go beyond your limits and understand that pain should not stop you bcuz u may regret in later years....Then last but not least, make sure you maintain a min. level otherwise you'll end up like me.... now i have to put in more effort n time compared with when i was 11. =(

  • @stretchdavid , what if the split is good on the floor, but the muscle, responsible for the puling the leg up is not working properly? :) What would you suggest? Needed for the synchro swimming.

  • this video actually doesn't look bad to me. and consider who it is. take a look at some of the other videos of kazakova. she's a contortionist. and it really doesn't hurt once you're stretched out and limber. you just need to find someone you trust to do this. the videos of chinese gymnastic training is much worse

  • Can someone explain to me what this type of training involves b/c i'd like to get more flexbile. How long is each stretch held? How many times per day and or per week is each muscle group stretched? How long does it take before flexibility increases? Thanks.

  • I can't answer all your qns...but each stretch is held for bout 10-30 secs...and it varies from person to person on how long it will take.

  • Firmingitup:when you first start stretching, you can do it about once a week and then slowly build it up to once a day. You don't want to be too intense cuz then you can damage your body, especially if you've already gone through puberty.usually oversplits are held (in RG training at least) at least 1min, usu. 90 seconds though. It depends on how limber your body already is, but you should be persistent and not give him! felxibility is a good thing!

  • just cuz ur past puberty doesn't mean that you can't still get flexible...probly just takes a bit longer....

    I'm redeveloping my flexibility so its much easier but nonetheless not an easy task. Maybe I could give u a pointer or 2 as well.

  • Hey, xtragel. Well it is coming along S-L-O-W-L-Y. I do see a slight difference but I have a long way to go...

  • Cool...as long as u are making progress. Muscles take more energy to develope as u get older therefore u must increase two variables, the frequency and the intensity. Start wtih more frequency....til ur comfortable and then push it a little more for intensity...but make sure ur body is lightly warmed up. I find it works really well for me and now I can do my splits after warming up, stretching and re-stretch. Took a while to get back to here but well worth it.

  • I'm so surprised her leg just doesn't pop out of the socket. I guess it just takes a lot of practice and knowing your body really well.

  • You know...When i get help doing my splits for dance class, usually they don't {heck, they probably couldn't} bring it that far back if she could only do it in the original split position. Her leg would totally be dislocated or something. Lol. She can go this far, she's just helping her keep it there so all pain goes away from that position, and she can stretch further in the future. :P
