Great video with very professional approach as usual but i wish you had asked him whether or not he's playing video games himself and his opinion about the current games.
have you got anymore of the Baer interview around? That would of been so cool talking to the man himself.. Id really like to hear more about his efforts protecting his patents.. perhaps ill need to shell out for his book.
Matt, I really like your format and approach. You interview great people and you're not biased. Also, your tone fits with the interviews very well, unlike others who are either loud or smug.
I wish you the best of luck and I'd be following your interviews with Romero to the end.
I have to say that the interviews that you have started to post as of late is really welcoming addition. Hope to see more of that! Keep on doing a great work Matt!
Surely needs to be a three part 30 minute interview that you could sell to cable TV or someone! This is HISTORY! It should be seen by more than 301 people and being made by Matt Chat - no disrespect!
I see the same thing beginning to happen now with DOS PC gaming. It's slowly being written out of gaming history books dominated by console gaming! :(
I agree, and if I could post 30 minute videos I would probably do so, though Matt Chat would then be a monthly rather than a weekly thing most likely. :)
We *are* making a feature film documentary about the topic with Lux Digital Pictures. Right now it's called "Gameplay" and steadily nearing production. I'll try to post some news about it when I learn more.
I'll second that (the bit about two parts being wonderful; I don't have a father-in-law!) This sort of stuff is fascinating, and really does need to be recorded for history. I can seriously see this being watched in 100 years' time.
Good job getting an interview with a legend of the caliber of Ralph Baer--it was great to hear his story. I appreciate your show as always, keep it coming!
This video will go down as a "Classic Matt Chat" Thanks for doing it! Amazing man and all that he has seen. By the way he mentioned my hometown of Ft Wayne, Indiana!
It is very hard to get them. It just takes a lot of searching on the web and polite emails, but it's mostly hit or miss. I feel quite lucky to have gotten the ones I have!
No! These recent Matt Chats are so good! I wish we could watch these interviews for an hour or longer, it's so interesting! I know you have more, you gotta make a DVD or something...
Ha! I've thought about that before. I've even heard of some other Youtubers putting out DVDs. It's something I'll look into eventually. Maybe when and if I hit 1000+ subs I'll get more serious about. ;P
Awesome video man! I was at a videogames convention here in Venezuela back at december 2008 and we had a video conference with Ralph Baer, with live questions from the audience and all that... He's a great a great person, and he deserves the title of father of videogames because of his work.
Another brilliant interview matt, its a real shame you have to make these 10mins, would be great to watch an hour interview :) do you have anymore interviews planned?
I've been trying to set some more up, but it's very hit or miss. There are , of course, hundreds of people I'd love to interview for the show. If anyone knows a good candidate personally or has contact info, please share. ;P
I love these interviews, really awesome of you to get in touch with all these great people and letting us see the results of the interviews. It was really nice hear hearing Baers story, from Baer himself :) Excellent as always!
That was very interesting! Did you talk about his vision of the future of games, then - along the way, up to now? Although he stated that he thought he had just created a new toy and never thought it would be an industry, I'd like to know how he has experienced the rise of gaming in the 80's and what games he has played, or would have played, himself. 10 minutes is too short for an interview with God! (lol)
Hehe. He has lots of ideas for new games as well; I hope he is able to interest some publishers in them. However, to my knowledge he isn't a hardcore gamer himself--more interested in the hardware.
Amazing. From the pic it appears that the Brown Box package consisted of console, two controllers and a lightgun. You really can see 'where things were going'!
I love the "Red Ryder" BB gun look of that light gun. I'd have great fun with that. I thought about buying the buck hunter game for Wii, but just can't imagine it being as fun as a real light gun.
Amazing stuff Matt! Thanks for aranging and putting this out, really awesome. Also thanks to Ralph Baer to be willing to talk to us, that's really great. I only read about the legend, so it's fun to see and hear himself talking about it.
I really like these interviews, it's great that you have the connections and knowhow to make these possible and that you share them with us here on youtube. Keep the great content coming!
Not only was this a great Matt Chat, this was truly an epic, groundbreaking episode! OMG, I can't believe you scored an interview with Ralph Baer!
If there was ever a call for a two-part (or more) episode, though, this would have been it. Mr. Baer's humble (in his mind) invention at the time truly shook the world!
Saying "a truly amazing Matt Chat" doesn't do the episode justice! Thank you, Mr. Baer, for your recollections, your inventions, and your wisdom!
Thanks, Rob. I do have plenty of additional material. Not sure if I should make an "outtakes" video or just save it for a future episode. Or perhaps Matt Chat the DVD? :P
Excellent interview! I saw him via skype at the video games live concert but this was a step up from that for sure. Thanks for getting this out to all of us Matt.
If today's video game scene was unimagineable in the mid 60's what will the scene look like in another 50 years? Thanks for the interview Matt. Fascinating stuff ... and fun stuff too!
What I've noticed is that people tend to be wildly wrong with that kind of thing--all those 50s futurist posters showing us with rocket ships and personal robots in the 1990s, for instance. On the other hand, people tend to miss things like the internet. Still, it's fun to think about.
Man you should post your work over at ScrewAttack as well, cause i can't believe it, you score an interview of a lifetime with Mr. Baer, and get so little views, where someone like that lameoid Fred gets hundreds of views in only a few mins, and thousands with in hours. Really just blows my mind, great stuff, keep up the good work, and hope you show some more of the Interview with Mr. Baer.
Well, I'm sure I'll get more views eventually. I just don't have a way to really advertise my stuff. Still, people are stumbling on the series everyday from YouTube and the audience is growing.
This sounds so cool I can't watch it yet though because of YouTube video's I am not able to watch until about 1 hour after the video is made for some reason.
