  • JAMES BROOOWWNNN! JAMES BROOWN! JAMES BROOOWWNNN! JAMES BROOOOWWWWNNN!

  • So groovy. Great performance.

  • FINALLY I found this song. My sister played this when I was little. I loved the voices in it. so FF to today. I thought it was Nu Shooz. It's been in my head for like five years thank god.

  • I loved it when it first came out and it is great to see them having fun back in the day!

  • Tina's so damn sexy! Not because she's a hot-chick-bass-player. But because she's an amazing hot-chick-bass-player.

  • lol, that white drummer was going in!

  • This is insane. They're actually playing their instruments and dancing!

  • Yeah, the girl is playing and singing it at the same time, which is quite tough...Or is she? Watch at 4:26...

  • @666666bert A lot of live albums have tracks edited or added post-production. Probably just fixed the bass track in the studio... I'm sure Tina was playing during the show.

  • @666666bert Tina is in the rock and roll hall of fame for a reason. This ain't no Milli Vanilli.

  • Bad

  • wiggle

  • can't watch 4:10 without dying.

  • @seeman2010vg great great thanx now i have to walk to the bank with a boner

  • dude says "check it out" six times in five minutes

  • I'd buy that for a dollar!

  • @iampower714 Not sure if that was a reference to Mr. Bungle or not, but if it was, lovely job!

  • WOW ! When was this?!

  • Man, I used to have such a crush on Tina Weymouth (from the Talking Heads) in High School... I go into the Starbucks across the street from where I work, in Kingston, Ontario (downtown) and the girl who serves me, Kate, looks just like her. Man, if she wasn't half my age... I would've asked that girl out right then and there.

  • Tina looks great I'm this video, and better today. In my opinion she is what brings people out to see the Tom Tom Club.

  • They seem to not do this kind of thing anymore.

  • Tina you are "the genius" and Franz you really are a great drummer!

  • then i watched stop making sense , i doubted wtf is this song because is totally out of talking heads records, now i now this is tom tom club and i am glad this isnt talking heads or david byrne song because tom tom club sounds silly to me

  • funny version:D

  • Crab dance. Never fails to excite.

  • @whahappened lol'd hard

  • One of the most bad ass bass lines ever and it's by a chick player! Of course the studio version sounds much better!

  • mmm. Those back up dancers.

  • go mariah Carey! lol

  • Gotta love Tina Weymouth *___* !! Bad ass bass player !! My parents called me martina after her , and this makes me so freaking proud !! X-DDD .

  • they are not playing or at least tina isn't 4:25

  • @brendn1 When stop making sense was filmed the Close ups and Long shots were filmed on different nights, This was so when long shots were shown you wouldn't see all the cameras on/around the stage.

But since the Audio is taken from one night and the video taken from a few (I think it's possibly 3?) it means that sometimes it doesn't always sync up entirely. Also means there's some odd bits, like where a beach ball is thrown onto stage and then in the next shot has disappeared instantly

  • @ZooropaTV ooh ok i didn't know that, either way an amazing song

  • @ZooropaTV That's a great idea. Thanks for the insight.

  • Do you think they know that they are playing their song in the completely wrong key? lol

  • Who needs to think when your feet just go?

  • Tina's bass sounds so good. Great vid.

  • THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME

  • True funk music!

  • One of the greatest concerts ever

  • Frantz's role provides a perfect contrast to the lighter vocals by Tina.

  • starting at 4:10 is the best part of the whole vid

  • who could dislike this

  • I am going to see these guys in September. They are opening for the Psychedelic Furs.

  • @billc307 At the pageant?! Me too!!

  • @billc307 Me too!

  • @billc307 where? I saw them in L.A. in the late 80's must have been about 14 or 15

  • love this band were can I see the whole concert?

  • @kinkymic1 you can find the other videos typing "talking heads stop making sense". (:

  • This is too fast. The studio recording was slower in the groove; it was more enjoyable. Much less enjoyable when fast.

  • fuck frantz haters, guy's the man

  • @iaminrainbows i downvoted that comment and upvoted yours and now it's in the top comments i feel powerful

  • @themythicalbeast you truly are a powerful mythical beast

  • Listening to Tina singing in this video was the first time I heard the "We went insane when we took cocaine" part. lol. I love that lyric.

  • @cellosareawesome ..and her expressions.

  • Tina plays without a pick... badass.

  • @aclerok She does both dude!

  • @aclerok don't most bass players?

  • @ThomasWallerr

No, most use a pick, depending on the style. It's just that it's less common for women to go pickless. Calluses aren't dainty :P

  • i want my band to cover this

  • roflmao!

  • this is soooo bad.

  • I love the song, but I can do without the chatter of Chris Frantz.

  • i love the studio version but hate this so much

  • FAIL

  • Is this the one with the James Brownnnn? James Brownnnnn!

Hurry up, today is The Capture!

    Wait.

Rapture? Hell, I don't remember now.

  • to all the comments about the bass being overdubbed --> what you need to remember is that this is a concert "film", they take shots from different parts of the song so as to have a better visual flow, if you look at the other musicians you'll notice what they are doing doesn't sync up at times either, doesn't mean it isn't live it just means that the editor thought this or that shot looked better for that moment and substituted it.

  • So; frantz....a twit

  • Who's the twit on the drums?

"the girls can do it too y'all"

Well golly gee, but it took a man to tell me

  • From 4:26 bass is overdubbed

  • Anybody else notice how the video was edited at 4:25 when she magically appears in front of the mic stand?

  • Aww quit bitchin minority - this is just so damn funky!!

  • This... this is why Byrne said "musically we're miles apart".

  • I love the bow legged dance at 4:08!

  • greatness !

  • this is so bizarre

  • The Chris Franz whining - YOU DIDN'T GET IT. Stupid. Go go soak your head.

  • Stop bitching about Chris Frantz

  • Does Chris Franz think he's a radio personality?

  • The guy on the drums needs to shut the fuck up had enough of him in the first 20 scnds

  • @Technobanana you need to shut the fuck up NOW

  • were do i find the vid of him dancing with a lamp?

  • @forust98 lol type in "this must be the place Naive Melody" thats the vid

  • This made me wan't to punch Frantz square in the jaw ._.

which is a shame, because otherwise it's really good.

  • Being a professional bass player myself, Tina Weymouth was and still is one of my most favorite bass players of all times. A couple more of my favorite bass players are Dana Williams from country group Diamond Rio and Victor Wooten from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

  • CHRIS FRANTZ walked on the song too much. I can see David Byrne not wanting a reunion tour now.

  • Frantz is the man, let him speak!

  • Is it just me or does she sound like Blondie?

  • this is awesome high

  • Hoo. Those gams.

  • @50GallonDrum No doubt. Those legs were killin' me.

  • Dammit Frantz......

  • TheMrtimmy28:

    "I'm really not so great.

Listen, I want people to know this: I wrote the part, but I had to get someone else to play it at the last minute. "

    bassplayer interview with Tina Weymouth,

    mar-97

  • Great vocal harmonies and a groove that never get's old. Sound's as fresh as it did 30 years ago, a timeless classic. Great job TTC!

  • I'm 21 years old, this came out before I was even a thought in my parents loins....but I never was really attracted to Tina, but now for some odd reason I find her and that bass incredibly sexy. Like WOW...Wow.

  • It must of taken a lot of blow to actually make this sound good.

  • Is this from a European DVD? I can't believe they couldn't release a concert film at the proper speed. Ugh. I feel sorry for all of you people in the 50 Hz countries.

  • Tina reminds me of Pris from Blade Runner...a non lethal version.

  • Comment removed

  • @rbatty90210 you're right i never noticed that tina was a member of talking heads and this was a sideline band for fun

  • Much as I love TH and theTTC; I gotta admit those back up singers MADE this show. They were so fun. What a blast it was to see in person, one of my best youthful memories. : D

  • If ever I find a girl who will spontaneously dance in the style of Tina Weymouth here I will marry her on the spot.

  • @barnabybrogue i will too and i don't like girls.

  • @barnabybrogue call me :)

  • Tina's got great moves!

    Chris, yes, please, shut up!

  • oooooooooooooooooh shit!!!!!!!

  • Does he have Tourette's maybe?

  • In all seriousness this is one of the worst songs I've ever heard

  • make a day

  • STOP MAKING SENSE was fun to watch back in the day it first came out and it is still fun to watch now. Bravo David Byrne/Jerry Harrison/Chris Frantz/Tina Weymouth!!!

  • Can't get over the breakdown that starts at 4.00. Tina's dance is crazy awesome

  • Lol fake bass

  • @CrispyAnt sms was filmed over three nights. there are some continuity problems that arose when they cut it.

  • @CrispyAnt nope.

  • Jesus fucking Christ, this would be so much better if would just shut up.

  • Tina Weymouth, what an awesome performer, bassist and vocalist. All around beautiful woman. Great performance

  • tina = awesome bass

  • In many ways, this song is even crazier than the Talking Head songs. And I write that as a compliment!

  • Tina the best

  • beautiful voise, why was this there only hit (as tom tom club).

  • @RnDnproductions It wasn't. Wordy Rappinghood was a pretty big hit too, and so was The Man with the 4-Way Hips.

  • Whats up with the audio? I have this DVD and the audio doesnt sound ANYTHING like this...this sounds horrible compared to the dvd

  • @gilmourwaters It's a different mix to the one I know, too; I think this is actually from the 1999 (re-)release of the film.

It's not "bad" (although Chris DOES rap too much, and the synths are too low, and while it's nice to hear Tina's voice clearly in the lead, Lynn Mabry and Edna Holt's vocals... and Alex Weir's guitar... oh, okay, it's a terrible mix. It sounds like they just took the signal from Chris & Tina's vox mics, the drum kit and D.I. for the bass, all the rest is just spill).

  • @soupalex That bass line was dubbed for the movie. Watch her hands, listen to the consistent lick - that's not Tina playing live.

  • @R90S tina weymuth was probably best female bass player ever dude i saw them live she plays for real

  • So Serene.....good contrast to the rest of the show. Love went crazy wehn we took cocaine line....serene for such a speedy element!

  • Had this I think on 12" and one of my favs of all time, which I'd forgotten about - would you believe I didnt know til today that The Tom Tom Club were part of Talking Heads!!

  • @nomatesman I knew about the group -- but I never knew they did this song in "Stop Making Sense"! I'd have gone to see it the whole YEAR it ran downtown at the Fine Arts Theater in Chicago if I'd known THAT! Sheesh...

  • Comment removed

  • Tina you're the best !

  • This was about a year after Tina gave birth to her first son, she looks great in this video...

...and having seen a more recent clip I notice the years have been great to her! :oD

  • From what I heard Tina Weymouth was actually peeved this song made the film!

And was that Jerry Harrison playing keys for Tom Tom Club?

  • Part of one of my all time favourite bands Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club - unbeatable.

  • My favourite version of the song

  • this is brilliant!

  • this band is so cool

  • Like the drummer says, "They call it GETTIN' DOWN," and I like it!

  • ♥ this!

  • nuttin but love 4 ya!! Thanks!

  • This was a skidmark in the underpants of a great concert.

  • tina is the hottest thing on 4 strings. God, I want her.

  • JAMES BROWN

  • who dat say dey gonna beat dem saints, who dat, who dat

  • Love Talking Heads but..... the drummer is just f'n annoying in this song.

  • lol, chris.

    cocaine is a helluva drug.

  • oh God...some nasty pixie genius....

  • Thumbs up if you'd like to have some nasty fun with mid-80's Tina W!!!

  • @00bikeboy She looks so slutty, yet so sweet.

  • Tina Weymouth has to be the sexiest bass player ever. I am developing an insane obsession with her former self!

    Genius!!!

I need to get me a couple of female friends and go to karaoke this.

  • wonder why they played the song so fast.....

  • The memories!!

  • CHRIS FRANTZ

    PLEASE SHUT YOUR MOUTH

  • @boibad12 No. Without geeks there can be no cool. Ying and Yang, equal action and reaction, etc.

  • @ady10001 lol *chris frantz voice* sha!....sha!.....ah!... OOOOooh!
