@tjflanigan1 If you installed Office yourself, then yes, it will delete the software files (not your personal files that you backed up though). If Office was pre-installed on your PC (it was there when you first bought it and turned it on), then it will be there after recovery. The system will be returned to the same way as when you first turned it on.
I know how to recover. But my screen is black n my keyboard is not working. I think i have a corrupt bios.Lights come on i hear the fan, then it goes off. I see lights, but it never make it to blue light from red on internet button. hear the dvd trying too work. It spins n turns off. I reset rams, hard drive already. Is there anyway to get pass the point? I have hp dv7 1245dx.The start up disc can't work. No signal going to screen or keyboard. caps lock light flashing.one time screen came on.
@howto4u It had stop waking up one day. I let it just run n after a while, it just came on by itself. Every time it took longer to come on. I put never sleep. I set it to wake in the task schedule. But i think i had to change it back to sleep. It still seems like it's sleep trying to wake. If i can get it back to start fully, then i can recover. The keyboard n screen not working. I can't get to anything. It sounds like the dvd is trying to work. Blue light is still red for internet.
@howto4u I don't remember updating the bios. I looked it up on Hp n it sounds like the bios is corrupt. It said if the light is flashing in the caps lock number lock, u might have a corrupted bios. I just don't know how to get it to fully start over with no screen or key board. My portable key board don't work either when i plug it in the usb. Thanks for your time. I don't know if it's something in the mother board that i can loose n attach again to make it work.
@TheSelfishEffect The steps would be different, but if you have an HP PC that shipped with XP, you can recover it too. Just search HP's web site for instructions.
i got "rem coudnt perform screening because coudnt detect 2 hdds on this system" and the hard disk check says Quick (303), and memort test is fine. Its a hp pavilion dv6 6024TX. what can i do ?
im doing a recovery right now since i accidently made my account into a guest account and there isnt any other administrator accounts soo yeaa thats my reason
I started format my desktop with a CD, & kept saying "39 reminder to finish formatting" Then I realized it was because it has a built in Format recovery. So can someone plz help me?
When I press F8 And press enter on BOOT it start the window's with no format & goes back to the stuck page, asking me to pop in the cd to continue but IT WILL NOT WORK WIth the CD since it has a built in recovery.
@elchamber If youtube allowed, I would send you a link to an HP Support document for Desktop PCs that addresses this issue. I think it could also work for Notebooks. To find this document on your own, go to google and search on "c01973791". The first result should be the HP document.
@howto4u After pressing F11, it brought me to the "Recovery Manager" screen. There was no "Microsoft Startup Repair" option. On the "Advanced Option" Menu, the two only options available is "Computer Checkup" and "System Recovery." At the "Computer Checkup" menu, the only two options available are "Launch Check Disk for the WinRE Partition" and "Open a Command Prompt.
After pressing Alt+D
I typed "bootrec/rebuildbcd." It was successful, but no "MS Startup repair tool."
@howto4u What? It said it was successful, but I still don't have access to Windows Vista and the ability to use "MS Startup Repair Tool" to fix any problems. I can't do anything.
I just want to be completely clear about this. Will my copy of Windows Vista that came with my laptop(G60-125NR) be still available for me after this? I don't have a CD copy and, instead of "Image," I have "HP Recovery."
@elchamber If Vista is what came on the PC when you first turned it on, then that is the operating system you will have after running a system recovery.
@akaredcrossbow I don't think this is a recovery application error. It sounds like your PC isn't recognizing the hard drive or your boot config file is corrupt. Try checking your BIOS to see if your hard drive is detected. You could also go to google and search for "troubleshooting hp system recovery windows 7". The HP support document on this topic should be a top result.
I have a HP desktop computer. Model number p6404y. Some how my factory recovery partition was damaged and I am no longer able to factory restore it. My question is how can I get or created a new factory recovery partition?
@antiquemusk If you created recovery discs, you can use them to restore the PC to factory condition. If you didn't make discs yet, you can order them from HP. I just checked and your PC has them available for order. Go to hp . com and select Support, then enter your model number, on your product page go to Software and Drivers, select your original OS, and then follow the "Order recovery media" link. I would post a direct link, but Youtube doesn't let me post URLs in comments.
I have a question i did the recovery manager on my hp desktop. So Now I have set to factory condition but its working even slower than it used to and sometimes the internet browser is not working. Everything is slow. It gets errors. PLEASE HELP.
@chr1s500 Did you by chance ever change your motherboard or install a BIOS that did not come from HP? You will likely need to contact HP to get the product serviced.
@howto4u no i did not, i just pressed restore to factory image it took half an hour to format nd after it restarted it showed code purple, im guessing the windows was erased also
@ModernTajio You should be able to reinstall the program using the Sony install discs or by contacting Sony to enable a new download. The HP Recovery program can't restore software programs that weren't pre-installed when you first purchased the computer.
So I did this and it took 2 hours.... That's not including the 125 updates it had to do after recovery... It's an all nighter type of thing just sayin.... Good night computer
I want to restore my computer to factory settings but do I have to remove a wireless pci card I installed in my pc before starting recovery it did not come with one when I bought it. Also do I really have to backup files if everything I have in my computer is not really important?
@playstation406 Yeah, I would remove the card, just to make sure no problems occur during the recovery process. If something happens during recovery, it could be harder to fix than just removing the card before hand. Backing up your personal data is recommended but not required. If you don't mind losing your files that are on the PC, then you don't need to backup.
hea i was wondering if u can help me with my computer. If i wipe my computer like following your guide will it take windows7 off? or will it still have windows on there and delete everything else?
@smhatman If you run a full system recovery, it will remove all the software you have installed and will then re-install the original software that was on the PC when you bought it, which includes the operating system. So if your PC came with Windows 7, then it will re-install it during recovery. If your PC came with Vista or XP, and then you upgraded to Windows 7, then Recovery will re-install the original operating system and you will have to re-upgrade.
@MrChocolateWorms If you have changed your operating system since you purchased it, then it will get rid of the changed OS. It will then re-install the original operating system that came on the PC.
Data recovery software is really a good thing, MiniTool data recovery software is a good choice for you. It is easy to use and it is efficient.. some of the editions are absolutely FREE!!!!!!!!you can have a try.
@Wimalasuriya123 Then you won't be able to put them back on your PC after running a recovery and you would likely lose them. Running a full system recovery will wipe out your hard drive and reinstall the software that was on it when you first purchased it.
@dragonred40001 If you completely format your hard drive, you will lose the recovery partition. Before going down this path, I would make sure to create a complete set of recovery discs just encase you ever want to recover the PC. Also, if you format the drive, you'll lose your Operating System and would need to use the recovery to install the OS or use another OS full install disc.
Hi, i've tried this before. But didn't work, it has restarted but nothing has changed help please. I've also tried to press F11 but nothing came up. I've a Windows Vista HP. Please reply!
@TheCollapsing I'm not sure which PC model you have, but for more detailed instructions try searching hp's web site hp.com. Search on your PC model and "system recovery" or "troubleshooting system recovery".
I have a mac and haven't used my hp laptop in to 2 years apparently when I went to get my screen fixed 2 years ago cause it was loose the people said there was a problem with hard drive they fixed it all my files were gone and i believe they replaced the hard drive with a new one so no way I can get my files back ;(
ok so let me get the idea this its like windows vista with all my drivers and stuff in my pc?i mean its the cd with windows vista, divers and stuff like this?
I own an Hp notebook with Windows 7 installed on it. It has a number of trojans on it that are bogging down my system. I've used programs such as Malwarebytes Antimalware to name one and I haven't experienced any other problems with my notebook aside from its speed but I'd like to restore it to its original state just to be safe. I already have all of my files and program keys and installation files, but I do not have Windows 7 dvd. Can I perform restore my computer without it like you showed?
I have a compaq presario cq62 I did my copy of repair disc windows 7 64 bit and a recovery d copy on 4 dvd. After that I did evrerything you said a Recover PC Software to Original Factory Condition really work exacly hw you saing but went i went to my panel control PROGRAMS AND FEAUTURES I thought that would came back like Factory Condition but no. How can I have my computer with the original programs taken out the one what by the time I have add.... THANK YOU
@MegaLETSPLAYMINECRAF If you have recovery discs or still have the recovery partition on your hard drive, then you can restore the PC to Vista. It won't recover your PC to XP.
IF i dun have CD RECOVERY SYSTEM still can do liddat?? last time i downgrade from vista to xp n allz my Driver GOne..Coz My Recovery System disk lost...then my fren gv the old DRiver....then i wan Restore PC to Factory Condition ..for ur Information i Using HP PAVILLION a6445d..what i shud do now ??shud i follow this video??
i cant access windows... it says "bootmgir is missing" and it says to press ctrl alt and delete ... i did that and it restarts and does the same thing over and over,,, please help
@chocodil2 It sounds to me like your Windows startup files have somehow become corrupted and you'll have to repair the Windows install. Try "googling" the error message to find instructions on how to fix this.
@chocodil2 you need to find the recovery disc and then go to the boot menu and boot the disc, then go to repair my computer, and choose which installation you want to repair, then you go to the command prompt and type
bootrec /fixboot i also hope that you have a back up disc at hand just in case. I hope this helps, if not message me.
@ZERONOVICE found the issue, apparently i restored to factory, but stopped it b4 it could finish, and when i tried opening windows the information and windows itslef was all gone. I had to fully restore again, but my computer pretty good now thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH! but its safe? i have afraid that something goes wrong and then..... my computer don't start the windows so i think that this is what i have to do... mine is a HP desktop, and it as an hp recovery partition.... but like i said i am araid that something goes wrong .. sorry my poor English
@Andrakula I'm not entirely sure I understand, but if you are asking if it is safe to run a system recovery, then yes, it should be. But remember to back up all your important files first because recovery will delete all your information and then reinstall all the original software and drivers to make the PC like it was when you first turned it on.
@howto4u i did it and it was a sucefully recovery. thanks! just one more question, does perform a system recovery formats de hp recovery partition? like: do i only can do it one time only ore i can do whenever i want and many times i want? (the system recovery?) thanks
@PeopledOntunDerStand There are two types of Recovery you can choose from, an application and driver recovery, and a Full System Recovery. The software/driver recovery only reinstalls individual applications or hardware drivers. The Full System Recovery will return the PC to factory condition.
@aceOFspades7121 Yep. If you want detailed instructions to read for reference, you can find them searching hp . com on your product model number and "system recovery".
@smhatman If your PC shipped with Windows, then it will still have Windows. Whatever software that was on there when you first turned it on should be there after a System Recovery.
@Songified Did you create recovery discs? If not, you may be able to still order them from HP. Go to hp . com and search for your product model number and "software". From your product's software download page, there will be a link to ordering recovery discs if your PC is still eligible to order them.
@tomyazvids what do you mean by nothing happens? Sometimes recovery can take a while and appear like it's not doing something (even for more than an hour).
I am getting a system preparation tool 3.14 box that comes up now So unfortunatly the system restore failed. Any idea what i should do? I see this is a common issue that has most baffled when i googled it.
@tomyazvids Did you run a "system restore" or a "system recovery"? There is a difference. System Restore is a Microsoft tool that allows you to roll the PC back to a time when it worked. System Recovery wipes out the software and then reinstalls it.
a little help here pls. i followed all your instructions i;m tryig to restore my hp laptop right now i only click yes to the option that says restore your computer to factory settings then i clicked ok. it's already 2 hours and the display in my hp laptop is all white. help please what should i do?
@angelaisho Some recoveries can take a long time, sometimes even up to 5 hours or so. It's also possible something is wrong with the recovery system on your PC and you would need to order new recovery discs. I'm not exactly sure for your specific issue though. If you go to the hp . com Web site and search on "c01883653", you should find a document with more info related to your questions.
If you haven't changed your OS or wiped out the recovery partition, you should be able to open Recovery Manager by clicking Start, then All Programs, and then PC Help & Tools.
@marvin569 Ah, you have a Dell, and that is why you don't have this option. This video is for an HP recovery application. I'm not sure if Dell has a similar program, but I'm assuming they do. You may want to search their website for info specific to your PC.
hey i have a hp compac presairo an eveytime i do the eset it gives me this bluesceen with just a mouse an it stays like that for a long time no loading thing or nothing just that screen fo hours wat do i do
@BIGBANKSBOY Go to HP . com - under support and drivers - and search for your product model number and the term "troubleshooting system recovery". You should find a support document to help.
@howto4u i made the video already its on my channle just go to it and it should be the one that says Hp touchsmart IQ500 promblems please go look at it so u can help me
@howto4u it's a pavilion series a6355.UK - ive tried taking out all drives, restoring to previous point, which failed x2 times, so I did normal HP recovery .. For a full explanation do you have skype or something? Its quite long ..
@petaredrev I'll send you a link in the inbox to an HP Support doc that may help. See if it helps, and if not reply to my inbox message with any additional details.
@howto4u I managed to get the recovery working, this time it hasn't crashed on me. problem is, the screen is covered in 'lines' and pixels' and i cant see some things such as "i accept this" options like where you have to click yes/no. any idea how to fix this as in .. make the screen clear/refresh it?
I need help with my hp touchsmart each time when I turn it on like normal and I try to log in it wont let me it doesn't let me move with my mouse or touch the screen and I don't know what to do and I don't know what's wrong can someone help me what to do with my computer??
@MrLG949 what do you mean it won't let you log in? Can you send me an inbox message with more details (such as you model number, what happens on the screen when you turn it on, what do you see and/or hear, etc.)? The more details you provide the more I'll be able to understand what is happening, then I'll see what I can do to help or point you in the direction of help.
Hi, Do all computers (desktops and laptops) have this full recovery option shown in the video, i heard only older ones did? Although im not to sure. if not all have the option then which do and which dont? Thanks
It WAS working fine then i tried to install pro tools Se on it. i Did that and when i restarted the laptop it just rebooted and rebooted i disabled the automatic restart and got a BSOD saying my system has failed... I NEED to restore my laptop to factory settings.. i have NO DISCS and NO F# Buttons bring me to a "factory restore" screen or mode... Help?
Thanks, I was frustrated before I found this video.

wat if i format my disk what would happen
dragonred40001 6 months ago
@dragonred40001 If you completely format your hard drive, you will lose the recovery partition. Before going down this path, I would make sure to create a complete set of recovery discs just encase you ever want to recover the PC. Also, if you format the drive, you'll lose your Operating System and would need to use the recovery to install the OS or use another OS full install disc.

@TheCollapsing I'm not sure which PC model you have, but for more detailed instructions try searching hp's web site hp.com. Search on your PC model and "system recovery" or "troubleshooting system recovery".

@MegaLETSPLAYMINECRAF If you have recovery discs or still have the recovery partition on your hard drive, then you can restore the PC to Vista. It won't recover your PC to XP.

chocodil2 9 months ago
@chocodil2 It sounds to me like your Windows startup files have somehow become corrupted and you'll have to repair the Windows install. Try "googling" the error message to find instructions on how to fix this.
howto4u 9 months ago
@chocodil2 turns out i stopped restoration of system at 98% lol
chocodil2 9 months ago
@chocodil2 you need to find the recovery disc and then go to the boot menu and boot the disc, then go to repair my computer, and choose which installation you want to repair, then you go to the command prompt and type
bootrec /fixboot i also hope that you have a back up disc at hand just in case. I hope this helps, if not message me.

Andrakula 9 months ago
@Andrakula I'm not entirely sure I understand, but if you are asking if it is safe to run a system recovery, then yes, it should be. But remember to back up all your important files first because recovery will delete all your information and then reinstall all the original software and drivers to make the PC like it was when you first turned it on.
howto4u 9 months ago
@howto4u i did it and it was a sucefully recovery. thanks! just one more question, does perform a system recovery formats de hp recovery partition? like: do i only can do it one time only ore i can do whenever i want and many times i want? (the system recovery?) thanks

Why should we choose "No" when asked to reinstall software/hardware?
PeopledOntunDerStand 10 months ago
@PeopledOntunDerStand There are two types of Recovery you can choose from, an application and driver recovery, and a Full System Recovery. The software/driver recovery only reinstalls individual applications or hardware drivers. The Full System Recovery will return the PC to factory condition.
howto4u 10 months ago
@howto4u does that mean it will go back to the day you bought it?
aceOFspades7121 9 months ago
@howto4u i wanna know if we have to reinstall windows after system recovery?
aceOFspades7121 9 months ago
@aceOFspades7121 No. If you are using the HP System Recovery, it will reinstall Windows and all other applications that the PC shipped with.
howto4u 9 months ago
@howto4u THANKS ALOT.. AND YES I AM USING A HP SYSTEM RECOVERY.SO IF I DO THAT IT WILL BE THE WAY IT WAS WHEN I BOUGHT IT RIGHT?
aceOFspades7121 9 months ago
@aceOFspades7121 Yep. If you want detailed instructions to read for reference, you can find them searching hp . com on your product model number and "system recovery".
howto4u 9 months ago
after you restore it to factory, out of the box, would i still have windows or would i need to put windows 7 disk in again?
smhatman 10 months ago
@smhatman If your PC shipped with Windows, then it will still have Windows. Whatever software that was on there when you first turned it on should be there after a System Recovery.
howto4u 10 months ago
What if the system recovery partition is corrupted?
Songified 10 months ago
@Songified Did you create recovery discs? If not, you may be able to still order them from HP. Go to hp . com and search for your product model number and "software". From your product's software download page, there will be a link to ordering recovery discs if your PC is still eligible to order them.
howto4u 10 months ago
made the discs exactly as instructed. I tried to do a recovery by inserting them and restaring the computer. nothing happens... what now?
tomyazvids 11 months ago
@tomyazvids what do you mean by nothing happens? Sometimes recovery can take a while and appear like it's not doing something (even for more than an hour).
howto4u 10 months ago
just called HP the bios was not booting in the right order. so the discs were good and all is good now
tomyazvids 10 months ago
@tomyazvids Glad to hear you got it fixed!

I am getting a system preparation tool 3.14 box that comes up now So unfortunatly the system restore failed. Any idea what i should do? I see this is a common issue that has most baffled when i googled it.
tomyazvids 10 months ago
@tomyazvids Did you run a "system restore" or a "system recovery"? There is a difference. System Restore is a Microsoft tool that allows you to roll the PC back to a time when it worked. System Recovery wipes out the software and then reinstalls it.

what should be the screen looks like when performing a factory settings recovery?
angelaisho 11 months ago
a little help here pls. i followed all your instructions i;m tryig to restore my hp laptop right now i only click yes to the option that says restore your computer to factory settings then i clicked ok. it's already 2 hours and the display in my hp laptop is all white. help please what should i do?
angelaisho 11 months ago
@angelaisho Some recoveries can take a long time, sometimes even up to 5 hours or so. It's also possible something is wrong with the recovery system on your PC and you would need to order new recovery discs. I'm not exactly sure for your specific issue though. If you go to the hp . com Web site and search on "c01883653", you should find a document with more info related to your questions.

howto4u 11 months ago
@howto4u for me i go to start i searched for "Recovery manager" IT doesnt have it..
marvin569 11 months ago
@marvin569 What HP PC model do you have?
If you haven't changed your OS or wiped out the recovery partition, you should be able to open Recovery Manager by clicking Start, then All Programs, and then PC Help & Tools.
howto4u 11 months ago
@howto4u Im using Dell actully but its window vista and i wanna reboot my computer its really mad slow when i first got it it was faster.
marvin569 11 months ago
@marvin569 Ah, you have a Dell, and that is why you don't have this option. This video is for an HP recovery application. I'm not sure if Dell has a similar program, but I'm assuming they do. You may want to search their website for info specific to your PC.
