Anyone looking to approach this game from a hardcore perspective should look to the DC version as this is for kids and casuals only. They should've waited for WiiMotionPlus.
It's the same exact version...the Wii version being a remake, most of the original songs came straight from the DC version, including Take On Me. The slow part is 2/3 of the way in the song, and this is like the 1/3 point in this video.
I'm gonna go with the thought that you tried playing it like the old one. That was your mistake. If you pay attention to how the controls are supposed to be used, you'd see that they aren't bad at all. It's not based on height like the DC one, it's based on tilt. You traded in a good game (and most likely didn't get a good refund too)
No, I did know about having to tilt. In the higher difficulties (which is where I'd usually play Samba as the easier ones aren't challenging), the remotes struggle to keep up with your movements. Particuarly when you have to move from the upper position to the lower. It results in you missing beats and breaking your combo. Some songs do this so much that it makes it impossible to score well at all.
Interesting, I went through the entire career mode only losing one song (in hard mode on Sonic's challenge, apparently, a lot of people fail at least once there). I scored above 90% for each song, and I now play Hard mode singleplayer modes, and I have no problems, you should've given it another chance and try to figure out the best way to work the controls. I did and I have very small problems.
But how many perfects have you gotten in difficult modes? Seriously. I wouldn't mind if it was my fault I was missing beats, but it keeps messing with my score which is the whole point of an arcade game. I'm not convinced.
Actually quite a few, practice makes perfect. I've managed a perfect Superhard "Take On Me", a Hard "Gonna Fly Now", I did a Perfect "Samba De Amigo" on Superhard career my first try (I was actually surprised I did that well). Once you get used to it, the games actually quite easy, and i'm gladi i'm not always getting perfects. It's called difficulty, it's a very vital system in games.
Indeed it is. But when you're punished for failing something because the controls aren't up to par, and not for your own lack of skill, then it kind of defeats the purpose.
But the controls are up to par, it requires practice and getting a feel for what you have to do. If I were to face you right now and I won with, I don't know, 96% and you 87%, would you blame the controls? Even though we'd have the same exact actions, if I did better than you, would you seriously blame the controls for your losing?
I would if I could, but all I have is a Webcam in a completely different room than my WIi and TV, so video is impossible. What I could do is upload my rank on the worldwide rankings if I do good enough (i've never tried as of yet, so I have no idea how hard it is). But if you want proof, I will. Also, the DC one is only good if you have those third party maracas that light up, as those are the most durable and accurate ones.
Ask anyone, look at videos of people playing the game here on Youtube, you'll see many people say those Maracas (I wanna say Mariko brand) were the best ones. Also, I wanna laugh at the fact you put Samba De Amigo, probably the most casual DC offering out there, in the Hardcore category.
Laugh all you want, but there are certain gamers who would buy an arcade game, such as this, for the sole purpose of bettering their scores by their own skill with practise. I call that hardcore gaming. You call it what you will. However I would have the manners not to laugh...
Plus I would point out that I said nothing about your comment on the maraccas. You said it's only good with the 3rd party ones which isn't true. It's a darn sight better than the Wii version...
Well with a comment saying "Not so" you left a very unspecific response. And the Maracas that came with the DC one wouldn't last a month. Also, if you're calling the DS game hardcore just because of bettering scores, games like Wii Sports or Mario Party could be considered hardcore because you can get high scores in that. Samba De Amigo is a social rythym game, which are pretty much all casual (exceptions would be Guitar Hero, and DDR, Rock Band almost makes it)
Why is Guitar Hero any different? Because it doesn't have a "kiddy" aesthetic?
+ an arcade game is what you make of it. It's original purpose is to get you to pump money into by bettering your score.
You already defeated your own argument by saying that the original Samba was no good with the 1st party maraccas. They're light-years ahead of the Wii versions controls. Point made, case closed. End of discussion.
I never called Samba De Amigo kiddy, Guitar Hero is hardcore because of it's difficulty, it takes a lot more practice in Guitar Hero than it dooes it Samba De Amigo. DC and Wii controls are controlled diffferently, so they can't be compared in that aspect, but the durability and quality of the 1st party maracas are horrible, which is why I said the red 3rd party ones that light up are better. You made no point at all.
OBJECTION! You lack evidence to make that statement, and though you are entitled to your opinion, a lot of people disagree with you. BTW, I'm currently working on getting #1 on "Take On Me" on Superhard. I've gone from #138 to #78 in two tries and i've gotten 100% on it many times.

I disagree, and consider it one of my favorite tracks in the game.

I traded the game the day after I bought it. The controls are terrible!

They most definately are broken. Take a video of yourself getting a good score in super hard and I'll believe you.
