@REG0613 Yes, IONA is still together, writing and recording new music, and touring. Their website is iona (dot) uk (dot) com. And you can follow them at Facebook (dot) com/ionaband.
I remember once telling my friends about Iona, and they gave me this "Celtic" praise and worship cd they'd copied from somewhere, and told me how amazing it was.
It was complete crap, and I told them so, but I was probably a little harsh, considering I'd been introduced to Celtic music by Iona, and it doesn't get much better than them.
I again am faced with letting go of a book in my life in order to begin a completely new story. I've said my final prayer in my native land. I turn my face toward the shining sea. I place my trust, again, in Messiah Jesus to guide my journey out into the new waters. Here's to my new journey, this time joined by my two children, Patrick and Iona. :-)
In that time for me, I happened upon the band, titled after the same Island. This song ministered deeply to my soul, helping me to find my own connection with my Creator. Now, I am at a time in life that I am at the Edge of the World, again. . . not contemplating suicide, but surviving my late husband's suicide. . .
As a teen, going through many illnesses, an undiagnosed brain injury, and constantly wrestling with suicidal thoughts, I discovered the Isle of Iona in my quest for Hope, Life, and Freedom. Ironically, Iona, the Island, is also known as "The island of the dead." It's built of cemetery upon cemetery. It's a noteworthy springboard for the spreading of the message of Christ for St. Columba, "the dove of the Church. . ."
Thanks for sharing this beautiful song .. amazing .. I have seen Iona 3 times .. and I just love their music! Friendly people .. always amazed by their 'soundscape' :-)
I discovered this video a couple of years ago, and it continues to haunt me... sometimes I actually wake up humming the song. It has touched my very core. I used to try to understand why. Now I just accept it as the gift it is...
Heather......stunning photographs which fit the mood perfectly to one of my favourite songs from my favourite band......have seen them 41 times so far!
@parko2112 41 times! I saw them once in Hamburg in 1997. The best concert i've ever been to! An unforgettable event. Joanne was on stage barefeet and it seemed she was floating in the air. Troy changing his instruments about 30 times, the band playing for 2 hours and a half ... the hall (Factory, Altona) was almost empty - but it didn't matter one bit. They were amazing and i'm hoping to be able to see them in Edinburgh this year. Funny they never play in Ireland though!
I love Iona. They paint masterpieces using the brushes of words and music, and each instrument is skillfully played, especially Joanne Hogg's futelike voice.
In memoriam of Great Grandmother Sarah Bell of Grey Pt. North Ireland. Gaelic principle from Paul don't stray from the favor of Christ thinking that you somehow can earn his favor.
You've done a great job with this vid HeatherMac. I just love this tune. (Not morbid or anything, but I can't think of a more beautiful song to be played at my funeral) Just captures everything I'd want to say. K
Marvellous combination Heather. This song is one of the most powerful tunes written by Iona and the images you added greatly enhance it. Thanks for posting!
