  • I will be doing a video called' Black Women's Hair In The Earthy Kingdom of God'.

It will be the talk of all the black women hair forums worldwide!

80% of bw proffess christianity yet very few have ever entertained the idea of God being concerned with their hair. God made us just the way He wanted us. There is no shame whatsoever in wearing natural hair, eating natural food and black women loving their natural selves! sub to be notified. AMEN

  • Can you use flaxseed meal if you don't have whole flaxseed?

  • So did u finger comb or comb ur hair with the gel in it and it just turned out that way when it dried or did u have to do something else?

  • Looks good...I have seen so many vids. I am trying to keep my processes simple and relatively moderate in cost. May have to make a batch of this! :-)

  • Wow, do you use a leave in or just the gel alone?

  • why do you use aloe vera? does it serve for an extra holding purposes or as a perservative?

  • Thanks! That was very informative! :)

  • I'm def going to try this, thanks!

  • Great recipe! And I'm so jealous of your hair, it's so pretty :)

  • my hair is too wavy and i bored of relaxing it, I accpet my natural hair but when a took any gel ,, my hair is amazing but the peolpe says that look like a person that not brush her hair help me : plz:(

  • Hi can you do an eye makeup tutorial for the look you had in this video please? The look you have here is so pretty yet natural enough that it looks proffesional. I'm so unaccustomed to makeup that I would not be able to recreate it alone.

  • Thanks! have you tried using gel caps or is it better to do the boiling step you showed here? I would like to try the flaxseed method one day.

  • i made it IT CAME OUT LIKE KINKY CURLY CURLING CURSTARD JUST A LIL DARKER YAY

  • I loved this recipe, instead of water I used a tea I made of nettles and horsetail then boiled the flax seeds in it. I love how my hair feels.

  • @yogangel7 ...i will have to try this...i usually add horsetail to mine but never thought to try out nettles.

  • @apatte4975 they strengthen the hair too it works well for me hope you enjoy

  • Cute final results.I have a $5 off coupon code for iHerb.com.It's ICO624.I order my hair oils from them.Very cheap. They also have shea butter and etc.

  • I am loving the curls....I've been looking into making my own homemade gel so this is a must try. Thanks for sharing.

  • Wow, I can't believe how long your curls lasted! Thanks!

  • i love your hair, beautiful, you are pretty ...thank you for the video,i am going to try the recipe..i was wondering maybe if you could just soak the flaxseed in water because that forms a gel as well..i will be trying both

  • Does the flax-seed gel keep your fro stretched or does it shrink during the day??? Wondering because my hair shrinks all the time no mater what I use

  • I like the video but, I saw on the news that linseed oil can Spontaneously combust with out a spark or flame if temps get to high. Though Im not sure if that applies to this application. I just wanted to put that out there so people can do their research.. my wife just did her BC so Im looking out.. Blessings

  • Your eye makeup is pretty.

  • Thank you. <3

  • ok so it seems like this is aloe vera gel w/ flaxseed...but I read that u said it's the flaxseed that creates the gel...so do u knw the difference w/o adding the aloe vera?

  • Does this destroy your hair over time?

  • @diornotwar123 linseed is suppose 2 be good for your hair so dont think so

  • does this make the hair crunchy and hard?

  • oh your eye makeup is nice!

  • wow, that's is good definition especially to last 12 days, good video!!!!

  • its really fun to soak rags in boiled linseed oil then ball them up put them in your trash can and wait awhile, You should try it inside your house somtimes, Its really fun!

  • what happens?

  • Spontaneous combustion

  • Most definitely, you can easily create 3 more batches out of the remaining... Make sure you place the seeds in the fridge

  • hey can u reuse the flaxseeds afterwards

  • I had the same problem like a few of you... The texture of the gel wouldn't drain through a strainer or stocking.... I did a bit of research and found the perfect solution to this problem....Place your seeds into a large tea ball and into the pot of water and boil away... Hope this helps... Love the vid, thanks for sharing

  • @travellingsonn77 Thank you sooo much for the large teaball idea...Ima try that next batch :)

  • @KaturahYahudah, My sister and my mother's name is Katurah. I haven't seen anybody else spell it this exact way. I know this comment was random. LOL!!!

  • @BLACKPEARL1908NSU WoW...that's curious!

  • that's a great idea

  • And by the way, I am being a smart ass beautiful. I am white BTW.

  • oh lol...okay. I thought it took away trash can odor or something. haha

  • Thanks for the video I have been looking on ways to make my own hair gels to define my curls. So thank you very much for this video and God Bless:)

  • Do you have a problem with mold growing in it because of the water content? If you do try adding witch hazel in it.... I've been wanting to make this for a while.... thanks for sharing...

  • Use a lil honey and tea tree oil in it because they are natural preservatives and there wonderful for the hair as well. I also put a little lecithin in the liquid form in it to help the olive oil and water blend better! I use a mixer to make sure all these additions are blended well...I love this stuff!

  • @DivaJacobs313 --- sometimes ppl put distilled water in it

  • Great Video!! But how do you store it? Do I use a glass container or is plastic ok? How much of this does it make? ( A cup or 1/2 cup) It seems like you are throwing it away if you don't use it all in 2 weeks.

  • Whoa, 12 day hair! That's amazing. Thanks.

  • 1-2 weeks.the gel holds longer if you keep it in the Fridge.

  • HI , Can u tell me what broke your hair on the side of your head ??? is the relaxer or some gels ??

  • Actually it's hereditary. It's baby hair that never grew into 'normal hair'. My grandmother, mom, sisters, bro, we all have it :-( I normally use the flaxseed to gel it down.

  • ok ! im gonna try to make the same gel ! , i use to think that can break hair but maybe not this one , thanks for ur videos ! love it

  • Oh, wow, I love the video. I might try this on my slightly curly but very frizzy Norwegian hair. I'm so glad you did this! Isn't it all about taking good care of ourselves WITHOUT giving even one cent to the man! I love it!

  • @rebeccalhoover --- lol

  • I made flaxseed gel by using 2 tbs of flaxseed with 1 cup of water and it came out like water.I'm going to do it your way today......

  • Tried your Exact recipe; it came out a Disaster!

It would not strain, no matter How I tried.

  • some people use a stocking to strain it.

  • Wow, Day 12 hair?! Amazing! :) My short, 3A curls hardly hold up 2 days, haha. (I think I toss and turn a lot at night!) Your hair is gorgeous. Thanks for the great video, I can't wait to try it.

  • Great video. I will try this on my niece's hair. Thanks so much.

  • Why do people rate video which are photo slide shows so very very low?

Just because you can't see a person walking around and hear them talking doesn't mean the quality is bad. There are bad photo shows and there are very good ones.

This one is at least a good one or better.

Maybe this person thought the photos would be better or maybe they didn't have a camera at that moment!!!

I like slide shows because I don't have adequate AUDIO equipment. That doesn't mean I didn't work hard.

  • Flaxseed oil also known as linseed oil is traditionally used to bind paints. It is exothermic and rags soaked in flaxeed oil can spontaneously combust. Flaxseed oil goes rancid very quickly, it oxidizes very quickly.

  • Can you use this gel for a wash 'n go? Or is it really better for twist-outs and braid outs

  • It can be used as both. But you really notice a difference with the twists/braid-outs

  • Can you use the flaxseed oil instead of the seeds?

  • No, because its the flaxseeds that form the gel.

  • I love the gel! I added shea butter and tea tree oil

    thanks

  • wow! even after 12 days???? This looks like it works very well. I might try this around september that will be my 6th month natural, my hair is to short right now. Thanks for posting!

  • Do you HAVE to twist your hair in order to have a defined curl pattern?

    Great recipe BTW!

  • It can also be used as a wash and go.

  • cool!

  • brilliant!

  • thanx so much ,been lookin for a natural gel ...cant seem to beat this . i will try and let you know how it works ..peace

  • Nu uh 12 days!!?!!?!??!?! What do you do in between days? spritz water?!? sleep on a satin pillow!? My hair would be a hot mess if i didnt wet it in between!

  • I twisted them big at night and slept with a satin scarf.

  • do you have a video on how you do big twists?

  • Thanks for the recipe. Beautiful hair, msbrice!

  • Okay, so I've used flaxseed gel 3 times now - or after 3 washes (I only wash my hair once a week as I dont have an oily scalp) and in conjunction with no-poo method. This gel works like a dream & lasts for days! Not to mention I no longer have to dole out money for expensive mousses & store gels.

I prefer letting my hair air dry about 70% and then I apply the flaxseed gel to the ends & roots that are still a little wet. It also gives the appearance of thicker, healthier hair.

  • Why the heck did you put Jizz in my pants in your tags! lol silly

  • thank you ms. brice !!! my curls are bangin. im lovin it.

  • could you boil the seeds and then reboil the same seeds and get the same results?

  • I've tried that and it worked....

  • Thank you

  • I tried this yesterday, but my mixture wasn't as frothy...do you have any tips on how I can obtain a frothier mixture? Thanks! :0)

  • To make it more frothy, you have to add more flaxseed or put less water. Also, try putting it in the freezer for 5-10minutes if it doesn't seem as sticky as in the video. Hope this helps!

  • I added more flaxseed this time - and it worked! Thank you very much!!!

Also, I was wondering if you know of any home-made remedies that will help make hair thicker?

  • does it softens your hair or make it hard and stiff like regular gel

  • I might try this, but I think I will grind the flaxseed first, then heat in a double boiler (not sure why, but I think I am protecting it.)

  • I heard if you heat flaxseed it becomes poisonous

  • Please tell me where you heard that because i use this and love it, but if there is anything bad about it i wanna know! Thanks.

  • Could this gel be used as a wax for removing body hair, ie. fine/medium stomach hair? Thanks!

  • Although I have not tried it I believe it will not work. It is more slippery than sticky

  • Oh ok, thanks! lol. I found a solution, SUGARING! Natural, safe, CHEAP, and can be made at home! lol :)

  • Worked for me and my daughter. I have a short natural and she has medium length hair. It brought out the curl in my hair immediately and I twisted my daughter. You should try it.

  • In how many days will the gel expire? How should it be stored?

  • I tried this and it is great! If you put too much in, your hair can be crunchie once it dries however it is very shiny. I used it for curl defination. I slept with a bonnet on and spritz my hair in the morning with my glycerin water mix. My stlye held for 4 days. Awesome, Thanks MsBrice

  • Yeah; I like the look of this style!

Thanks so much 4 providing this info--the recipe & the pics...very helpful.

As a previous poster spoke to, I'd love 2 know your response 2 the following questions plz:

    Q) WHAT EXACTLY DID YOU DO TO ACHIEVE THIS LOOK? I.e., you mentioned "twisting"--did you mean that you did DOUBLE-STRAND TWISTING to achieve this look?

    Q) HOW LONG DID YOU LEAVE THE TWISTS IN BEFORE DOING (I'm presuming) A TWIST-OUT?

Inquiring minds wish to know! : ] Thanks!

  • This gel recipe is perfect! I tried it today and my results were wonderful. I used a wire strainer with holes that allowed the gel to seep through, but kept the seeds out! I mixture is very slimy and easy to apply. I used a leave in cond. because my hair is so dry and sometimes aloe makes it drier. I put my hair in a slick up-do and I tied a scarf to hold it down while it dried.

I am very happy with this. Instead of buying gel, I am going to make my own!

  • I tried to make this, but it seemed too thick to go through the strainer. Then I used more water and it seems like it turned out too thin, but i put some on a couple of twists just to see what would happen. It turned out great! My twists were shiny and OMG! No frizz!

  • Use 2 tablespoons of the flaxseeds and let it simmer for about 20 minutes. It's much easier to strain. Also the thicker the batch the better.

  • do u put your hair in twists and leave it on for a while or do u twist your hair with your fingers with the gel?

  • hey could u message me the ingrediant i want to make some

  • Ohhh...It reminds me when i was young at my country and i used to go uot with my friends or cousings to parties and obviusly we couldn't aford to buy gel and stuff...we used to buy this and use it as gel...plus is very good for the hair, as avoids any damage gels can cause to it! Very good video ;)

  • my twists using this gel came out great. this gel gives great hold without being too drying or hard.

  • loved this video. i'm natural, but frustrated with the amount of shrinkage i have which turns my shoulder length hair into an ear length style after being outside for 2 minutes. Do you know of anything that will weigh down my kinky curly but lightweight hair. i'm using a shea butter/cocoa butter lotion right now. it softens but still get extreme shrink. i have a big head. i need less shrink. some is ok but this is ridiculous. i'm gonna try the flaxseed gel too

  • i have the same prob even with this gel my hair still shrink. when my hair is blown out for trims it is shoulder length but when dry or drying, its shrinks to a tight and curly fro. i think i may try kinky curly custard to reduce shrinkage.

  • You can try Kinky Curly Curling Custard. That seems to work for some people

  • ok so the flaxseed gel gives much hold and dries quickly. this maybe a keeper. and another thing, as i was twisting my hair i notice that the gel gave my curls a little definition. how much i am not sure because i was combing my hair for twist. maybe at the end of this week i will try a wash'n'go. i've tried wash'n'go in the pass with no success because my hair like to turn into a uneven curl fro cause of shrinkage. i need something heavy to keep my hair from shrinking i think..hmm i will see.

  • i just made this and it is in the fridge cooling down. i can't wait to try this. i tried making the jojoba gel but it left my hair kind of crunchy feeling. i think i used too much xanthan gum. well with the recipe, i add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of aloe vera juice because i don't have any aloe vera gel right now. also added about 5 drops of rose hip seed oil. i'll see how it turns out tomorrow when my hair is dry.

  • Great video! The older it gets the better it looks. Thanks for the tips :0)

  • is it cracked or uncracked seeds? could u also convert to grams?

  • its uncracked seeds.

  • i know this vid is about flaxseed hair gel but i am loving those earrings..

  • how do you store the gel because.. my scent lose within a few days.. I don't add aloe.. is that the problem?

  • I put it in a clean jar with a lid , and directly to the fridge. Not for many days, I d say for about 8.

  • um.. okai i kno u said that it works on all types of hair. so forgive me for askn a dumb question but do u think this would hold for a white person's hair.. i have naturally curly hair and i hate having 2 wash it and put new gel in everyday.. and the gel i use i left it in for a couple of dayz and when i washed my hair alot of it started to come out. buht it hasnt continued. soo HELP PLZ~!

  • I have the african quality of hair blended with the european one. It does great work for me! And coconut oil / shea butter/ aloe vera mixture too (I also make this at home and it is the best of all!).

  • I believe that it will work for your hair too. I saw another youtuber who was caucasian make a vid about flaxseed gel. It was a good vid too!

  • I make the gel regularly but I still enjoyed the tutorial. It's great. Thanks for sharing.

  • could use this in a spray bottle and put on new growth in locking....AND, also can you use honey instead of aloe..

  • i was actually thinking about using this same gel for retwists also.

  • Tried it yesterday....AWESOME!!

    Thanks for posting :-D

  • Thanks so much for the video, Since watching your others, I have done this on my 10 year old daugherts hair and she loves it. I am going to make the flaxseed mix, but wanted to know in your video after you twisted your hair you unraveled it right? Also about what thickness was your twist and how long did it take you to do your own hair? Lastly did you abandon the shea butter, aloe vera mix from your previous video? Ok, one last question, what about flaxseed oil out of the bottle?

  • This gel is fantastic. I BC'd on tuesday and had to cut off a reasonable amount of my new growth due to severe knots. My short fro is cute but I wanted find out what my texture was and to have an alternative do. Made & applied the gel 10 minutes ago. wow the results are impressive. I have tried a variety of gels and this one has given me the best results + it's natural. The only prob is straining the gel. Other than that, this is a must have for every natural.

  • how did you get the seed to drain. The gel never drained from my seeds..it just sat there with the seeds in the strainer. i started on being excited becuz i wanted to try something new..but quickly become digusted because the gel didn't drain....HELP please

  • Personally I drain it immediately after taking it it out of heat. After a few seconds it is impossible to strain it I think!

  • I used a piece of cheese cloth. Put it into your strainer first and then pou in mixture. After that, just let it sit and wait. It will fall through but not the seeds. Then if you have to, you can give the cloth a little squeeze and some remaining gel will come through. Hope that helps some!

  • oh I forgot. I dont boil it until it is too thick. I drain it when it is lotion like.

  • This gel is AWESOME!!!!! I have african texture hair and still in amazement at the results. It's NOT greasy, it left my hair VERY soft and moisturized, even on the second day. Only challenge, straining the flaxseed but it's WELL worth the results. Try it people! Thanks again MsBrice.

  • Thanks! That's why I love flaxseed gel. It doesn't stick, has a strong hold, makes the hair shiny and has no chemicals! And adding a couple drops of your favorite essential oil will give it a great smell!

  • does this make your hair greasy would a white person be able to use this?

  • Of course! Flaxseed gel is not greasy at all and is a much safer alternative than regular gel which has so many chemicals. If you find it too thick, you can add some aloe vera gel to make it thinner. And if you don't like the smell, you can add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil (which is also natural).

  • So you don't have to use the aloe vera gel if you are ok with the thickness??

  • i need to make this ASAP!

  • Have you made it yet...?

  • nope :( i wish. hopefully i will soon.

  • wow!!

  • Another great informative video! Keep doing your thing :-D

  • Thanks ladykpnyc. Hopefully I'll be in your neck of the woods soon!

  • Can you tell me what benefits flaxseeds add to natural hair, or is it just good for the holding process?

  • Taking flaxseed internally aids in hairgrowth and has lots of benefits for the body. As a gel, it helps holding process without drying out the hair and the curl patterns are more defined. I find that it moisterizes without the greasy feeling.

  • what sort of twist did you do to your hair?was it two? Thanks very good video:)

  • yes, two strand twists

  • You should try a 3 strand twist if you know how (there's a tutorial on youtube, that's how I learned). if you take them loose after a day or a couple hours even once it dries, the curl pattern is tighter and they last longer.

  • im going to try this

  • I would like to know how long to simmer the seeds and water for and then how long to let it cool. You did not mention either one of those and I believe it is important to know. BTW if you add about TEASPOON OF TEA TREE oil to the mix it will keep longer as tea tree oil retards bacteria and fungus growth. :-)

  • I mentioned in the video, to turn off the heat when you see a frothy gel like substance (usually after 5-7 mins, the important thing is to constantly stir). Let it cool down for a minute or so, but don't let it get too hard otherwise it won't go through the strainer. Grapefruit EO is also a good preserver, but I wouldn't leave it in the fridge for more than a week anyway.

  • fabulous!

  • This was a really great video. I cannot believe how well your hair stayed. Thank you very much for your videos. I subscribed today.

  • Thanks for subscribing. I'm always open for requests so let me know if you have one.

  • great video msbrice. i'll try it this weekend. keep up the good work :o)

  • wow! your hair stayed so well for almost two weeks! what did you do to moisturize and what did you do at night...retwist...tie up etc...? i would like to do this for my daughter's hair.

  • I retwisted at night, but in big twists (about 8-10 twists). I sprayed some oil a couple times when I twisted them at night. The gel is surprisingly moisterizing so you don't need to moisterize everyday.

  • Yea, at night, I retwisted them, but in big twist (about7-8)

  • Your hair was beautiful! I just want to know where you get your aloe gel from?? I am having a hard time finding some.

  • You should be able to find some in a big hair and beauty supply store. If not, then a pharmacx should have it. Also you can find them in natural food stores.

  • Is it pure gel with nothing added? Most beauty supplies have alot of products that have some chemicals mixed in. I will look, thanks!

  • It should say 98, 99 or 100% aloe vera. Anything less than that you shouldn't get. "Fruit of the Earth" brand has a 100% aloe vera gel.

  • Please read the ingredients of that aloe gel as it is not natural or pure. There are chemicals added to it that aren't safe for you or your hair. I tried to make it without the aloe and i made a mess! The gel wouldn't come through the strainer because of the seeds and it was so thick! Can you tell me what i did wrong, i followed the directions??

  • The aloe I buy IS all natural. You can find it out there. And it all natural and organic also.Just dont use that green crap people use for sun burns. My natural aloe is clear with no coloring, or anything else for that matter, added.

  • use 2 tablespoons of the flaxseeds and let it simmer for about 20 minutes. When I changed the amount of flaxseeds it was easier to strain.

  • That very was interesting. Your hair looked good.

  • wow that was interesting, and very informative. I really enjoy your videos i cant wait until i have energy to make some...im pregnant and lazy (lol)

  • sweet!Thanks.

  • Another great video msbrice! I'll definitely be making some of that in the near future, when the weather in london decides to get better, so i can wear my twistouts!! :).. Your hair held up VERY well!!!

  • Thanks. The shelf life is about 1 week and it needs to be stored in the fridge. If you have leftover seeds, store those in the fridge too. At night, twist your hair in big twist (about 8 or so) so you can maintain the curl pattern.

  • Love this video & your curls! Your videos are so informative. What's the shelf life of this oil/gel? Does it need to be stored in the fridge? I see flaxseed oil stored in the fridge at health food stores.

  • Your hair came out beautifully and it lasted for a long time.

I loved the beat that played in the background. Who was it by?

  • Thanks. The beats are original compositions.

  • Amazing

  • Thank you for this video. I am going to try this tomorrow!!

  • Great! Document it and do a video response!
