  • best piece by them

  • Great song and none of the fabricated one hit wonder x factor rubbish etc. Those were the days

  • Fantastic! I have never EVER seen this video to one of my favourite tunes - and I would have expected a bus station, not a barge with books on it and an amphibious Vauxhall Victor.

One of the saddest and most beautiful songs ever - I almost posted some of the lyrics this evening, and didn't.

  • me and my girl, my lovely lindsay 14 years younger thatn me, but boy do we love the eighties

  • Although, in my opinion they never reached the fantastic heights of the unbelievable 'Dare' again, this song was amazing!

  • I wouldn't dive into the Grand Union canal (where I am sure this was filmed). I am reliably informed it is full of rat wee!

  • @luornu this was filmed in southall

just by the old oak tree pub

i lived in the pub there with my family

and yes the cut was well polluted i know i swam in it and had gut rot for ages

i just hope she kept her mouth shut

(impossible for a woman i know but heres to hoping )lol

  • great song ,shite video.Close your eyes and make your own

  • @1314boyz Funny, I always loved this video...It was shown a lot on SKY television.

  • @1314boyz well i think the video is cool, but i dont like phil's look! nor do i like his hair, but i believe Joann looks very Gorgeous in this video!

  • OH MY GOD IS THAT WHO I THINK IT IS AT 1:42

  • What is up with the 40's/early 50's song in the beginning? Funny thing is, I used to live near a shopping village in Chicago built around that time. Then it was redone in the early 80's when this song was made. Guess what never changed? The escalator technology! Timeless huh...

  • @dddeeevvvx

even I look good without makeup - no male powder rooms please! It was a beast trying to touch up your mascara in the mens bog in the early eighties......... you usually came out with too much around your eye....

  • Lol!

  • Mr Oakey looks more attractive without makeup

  • this is amazing !!!! Thanks so very much for putting this up!!!!!!

  • When I next see my teenaged daughter in the fall, I'm going to play this for her. I have no doubt she'll fall in love with it too.

  • @terentii your in danger of your daughter to call you sad, what with young modern music is now like. It has seriously moved on. That is what my daughter has told me about my musical choices to her, and her latest boyfriend...

    Hope this helps.

  • @yippitydodah Oh, I assure you, not only does my daughter have good taste (she loves listening to classical music), she also has a great sense of humor and love of the offbeat. Her cultural horizons go back 'way beyond 1990 (and she was born in '95) . This is exactly the kind of song that would appeal to her.

  • @terentii '95? Hmmm! Are you sure she isn't humouring you? Mine is a '91 model of a daughter, with now blonde hair, but as she always had, like me. Boys will kick in soon, or whatever, classic music parties even, like Rock your Box, and tings....

  • I worked on the radio in Moscow in the 1990s, at one of Russia's first commercial FM stations; back then, we broadcast rock 'n' roll 24/7 entirely in English. The DJ played this one evening, and I fell in love with it. ("Old?" I was thirty-something at the time.) I liked it so much that when one of our listeners wanted to dedicate a song to us, I requested this one. Afterward, it enjoyed something of a revival, with people calling in to request it on a regular basis.

  • the human league still sound as cool and ironic as they ever did...only the pet shop boys can match their timeless capacity for clever, effortless, melodic englishness.

  • Met up with my ex today and I've been singing this song ever since lol

  • @bert031078

Sweet, but sorry, slightly saddo too! : )

  • @yippitydodah Yeah, but me all over lol

  • @bert031078

Were her eyes still clear? But more than that, did you have a memory shag? OK, maybe not. : )

  • I was cussing out the copy-write monsters, till i realized i had mute on. No reason to share it, but I did.

  • I like this song a lot but i think the human league have done a few better.

  • @thegeezerdan

Do you mean the pre-Heaven 17 offshoot, or the post Martin Rushent excellent days, God rest him? Here is my favorite from either of two periods,

    watch?v=XYepvarTsVM

    watch?v=XSn2K3eciSc

  • @yippitydodah I have watched it thanks.

  • @thegeezerdan

    watch?v=XSn2K3eciSc?

    God bless Martin Rushent.

Or the pre Heaven 17 days?

    watch?v=XYepvarTsVM

  • THIS IS BRILLIANT BUT YOU SHOULD TAKE LISTEN TO A VERSION BY THE SINGER TONY CHRISTIE JUST BLEW ME AWAY

  • No matter how many times I see this video (and I love this song) Phil on that boat reminds me of Disneyland Cast Members who run the Jungle Cruise. I am always waiting for him to stop and crack a joke about the hippo. The fact that he isn't wearing makeup and gained all that weight starting to look more healthy doesn't help. When I first saw this, I couldn't believe this was the same man as the man in "Don't You Want Me". Still, its a beautiful song that puts me in tears.

  • lov it

  • my girlfriend's called louise. been with her for over 3 years now. =)

  • I just listened to this on an MP3 Sony "Walkman"... LOL

  • I thought that double decker bus was gonna fall into the water...

  • Bittersweet! At times...you don't end up with those you once truly love.

  • All of them look great here! Great song, great band! The Human League!! FTW! :D

  • It's pretty hard to not want to cuddle up with Joanne in that hot tub... ;)

  • Hey Piss Off! Brunolly!

I had to work my ass off to get commercials off Youtube.

I don't appreciate you bizarre sense of humour at the beggining of (my) video!

  • Phil Oakey is uber cool, awesome. Love this song, bought it on 12" years ago ! I think it came with a poster. The Human League were simply sublime and such a cool band.

  • I'd love to sing this, but none of the main araoke companies seem interested in replicating the track, - anybody out there have an instrumental version I could add lyrics to?

  • @tractorboy406 I created an xm module if you're interested.

  • was seeing a girl called Louise when this came out. was 15. always have a special place. Never forget you although 1980s xxxx

  • i showed this to some people my age some liked it and some said "omg thats old ppl music!" well im 13 and goddd i love human league and the phil the leader.. is that wrong? i cant stopp listening to it i love it with a strong passion lol!

  • @tinkerbellys Good, do so ;)

  • @tinkerbellys Hey, it's not only normal, it actually means you have at least some taste compared to the majority of kids today! It's not really old music, i mean the 80s were just 30 years ago, sure it's been out-dated but still, a lot of this music is better than present day pop trash we're all used to!

  • Comment removed

  • @tinkerbellys Good for you. When you and your friends are 40, they will feel like idiots for listening to some of the stuff they love right now.

  • @tinkerbellys Good for you kid way better than what they have today

  • @tinkerbellys man your so gay you should ask phil he will tell you whats right and whas wrong

  • @friginhell123 what?? i dont understand what u mean. lool.

  • @tinkerbellys I would call this the music of "your" generation... songs like this were used to test early digital/computer equipment

  • @tinkerbellys KEEP LISTENING COZ GREAT MUSIC IS TIMELESS!!!

  • @tinkerbellys This song has always had a strong like/dislike issue with people since it came out. I love this song (and all of Hysteria for that matter) and had some friends who considered me a traitor to my synthpop roots for it.

  • @tinkerbellys don't worry, there's nothing wrong with that. when I was 11 years old (back in the 90's), I never listened to the spice girls, britney spears, christina aguilera, and boybands. I only listened to the Human League, Heaven 17, Culture Club, and other 80s brit pop. Coz let's admit that music in the 80s (especially the british ones) was a hundred percent soooo much better than music nowadays.

  • my favourite single ever hello 2 all those old lovers tnxs 4 all the good times luv xxxxxxxxxxxxxxmidge big tits

  • Can someone tell me where I can find the guitar chords to this song?

  • One of the Best Pop Bands of the 80's.. great song...good times...never forgotten

  • Great song...always takes me back to a better time, thanks for posting ;)

  • What is the name of the song that plays the first 10 seconds?

  • @tyskstil It's the Little Rascals'/Our Gang theme; the actual title is "Good Old Days"

  • Where was this video recorded???

  • Ahhhh lovely 80's! loved his hair back then all diff styles lol. Rock on 80's :)

  • I was in high school when this video came out on MTV!! MTV was much better in the 80's! The 90's for MTV was Rap(Hip hop) which I hate!! Human League is one of my

    favorate pop group!!

  • I love this, brings so much back, some things from not too long ago, never did upset applecarts.

  • Unfortuantely Nirvana & the Seattle scene wiped out 80's memories including new wave/synth pop & hair metal. Was it really time for a change?

  • phil oakey was so phwoar back then wonder if he`s still has the phwoar factor these days (hope he does )

  • @caross1 He really does! Saw him being interviewed on tv recently and he looks better than ever!!

  • great lyrics , simple melody all creates a great song that stays in your head and you just cant shake it .Now thats called perfection , cudeos to Human league.

  • Rip the audio from this tune at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • Still one of the best songs EVER.

    Greetings from Holland.

  • what a great looking guy ...

  • Wow I have never heard this before.

  • Ahhh, the 80s, where you could have no singing voice at all, and just sort of speak the words, and still be a star for a year or two. What an era.

  • Brilliantly done tongue in cheek video . Fucking awesome.

  • Always loved the Human League. Always will. So talented.

Phil was such a dish and still is from the recent pics I saw.

  • no offense butcoming from the youth, thank goddd this isnt todays music..just not our taste

  • @lsbhb sorry pal you have completely missed the point

  • my name is Louise too *_* I'm Brazilian and I know how to speak English

  • Comment removed

  • @jqycer1 I see you're irish you like planxty & stuff & can you do the riverdance?

  • hits the spot...phil oakey's harsh voice makes it so much more moving than a 'proper' can-hit-the-notes singer ever could

  • Saw these guys last night live at Norwich - awesome, Phil Oakley's voice is astounding.........resonant......stunning. NEver stop singing guys!!!

  • While you're waiting for the bus... Their new song is called Night People! :)

  • Vive les Louise!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love the name Louise

  • You have a VERY wise insight into life ,,I have a feeling that you have really experienced yours :) Amazing words Thankyou X

  • Hysteria is a brilliant, misunderstood opus from HL

  • You're certainly right !!! but i spotted on 82, don't know why...

  • Best video since Thriller !!!!

    Ok i'm kidding.

  • 1982, great year, I was 15 and i've spent an amazing time in England

  • @hugolau2001 i thought it was 1984, In NY we didn't get to hear this song until 1984

  • 27 people have never been in love and have no romance in their souls whatsoever. What a shame, this is one of The Human League's best songs!!!

  • Those were the days......Louise 1982 x

  • Those were the days......Louise x

  • great song if you ever do go for a barge ride on the canals

  • As if they were still lovers.

  • god this is boring... not their best song

  • Does anyone know where I can find the guitar chords to this?

  • I once was in love with an english girl whose second name was Louise...long long agao, still stthat song strucks me somehow.....

  • LOVELY THNX

  • WOW, handbrake turn in a Routemaster bus, belter

  • HOLY CRAP... THAT BUS SURELY HAD A GREAT "BOTTY" SWING ... AHHH WONDER DID ANYONE GOT A HEART ATTACK ON THE SPOT ... HMMM

I ALWAYS THOUGHT ONLY THE HUNGARIAN BUS DRIVERS ARE DRIVING LIKE RUSHING TO HELL ... I SEE NOW THEY ARE NOT ALONE... BUS DRIVERS ARE BLOODY DRIVERS!

NAAA ... THIS WASN'T A COMPLIMENT ... JUST INCASE OF HAVING A THOUGHT OR TWO ....:-)))

  • quintessential 80's huggable music. really like this selection

  • Nice song

  • A old boyfriend used to sing this to me and replace Louise with Mandaaaa...LMAO ;0}}}

  • Did you see the double-decker bus making that extreme maneuver in the beginning? WOW, this is 80s, no computer there, how did the driver did that?

  • @jairlucio1 pull the emergency brake and crank the wheel? use water or sand to slide? don't see any outriggers, etc for safety, so still a ballsy stunt with bridge, river and boat to worry about!!!!!!

  • @jairlucio1 Lol that must have been done on one of the London Transport skidpans - look up "London Transport - Skid Patch" and you will see that approach was not unusual in training purposes! As for the Vauxhall Victor FE in this, I don't think buoyancy in water was at the height of the designers priorities, particularly as it had an unfortunate reputation to rust at a young age...

  • Just loving this ... I have bought my tikets for the Leas cannot wait x x x x

  • "her face was older, just a little rough" - bit like Susanne and Joanne these days.

  • @davidzof rofl awwwwww so biting,

  • I love Louise forever!

  • I love Louise forever!

  • I love Louise forever.

  • So sexy Phil...

  • This song is a gem. I've been listening to Human League off and on since they first hit in the states and first heard this song last night. I liked it so much I decided to start today with it, even before coffee. They are an excellent live band as well, I saw them back in 2000 in an outdoor festival in Nashville.

  • @Albieification

nice to know some intelligent Yanks out there..... who makes music like this in the states?

  • Very good

  • It's not always true that time heals all wounds, there are wounds you don't want to heal, the memories of something really good; something truly real, that you've never found again.

Love that bit. And so true.

  • Damn, it just took me back to 1986 so many good memories. thanks...

  • Robbie Williams' version is really good as well.

  • muy bueno si señor

  • another human league classic.phil oakey has a great voice.

  • Phil looks like Trevor Rabin in this clip,,,hehe

  • tune

  • Comment removed

  • @CollectorOfMusic Even better to have it on CD and listen when you want to. :-)

  • @CollectorOfMusic same here, one of the good songs that a lot of people don't know about

  • I love this song...brings back so many good memories

  • Still loving this.....

  • Listen to Clan Of Xymox 's Louise. Also from the 80's and most excellent !

  • FANTASTIC....am sick to death of the shit we have to listen to today,,,bring back the late 70s and early 80s

  • @marcN19 I love this song and video and ,,its so nice ,,it takes me back to how i was feeling when this came out ,,sort of all confused and messed uip hormonally but still making the best of youth :)

  • @ThingsToMakeAnDo i guess it takes most of us back to being a teenager..,Those years when we 'knew it all and had all the answers.' The joy of sadness mixed with regret and anguish. Even though we look back and laugh at ourselves we still wish we could do it all over again.

  • @marcN19 NO SHIT! I AGREE TOTALLY!

  • @marcN19 ya like me ya was born in a world too late!!

  • @marcN19 well said, i,m affraid them days have gone for good..

  • @marcN19 this isnt much less shit than the shit we hear to day i have to say

  • Great stuff! He looks like Rab C Nesbitt in the vid! :)

  • I love this song very much !! Phil Oakey has a great voice. One of Sheffield's finest along with Def Leppard, Joe Cocker,Pulp, ABC, Heaven 17 ,Artic Monkeys.

  • I heard this on the Radcliffe and Maconie show tonight for the first time. I would never have considered myself in any way, shape or form being an admirer of the Human League or any of that genre but this is a brilliant song.

  • They should build a statue of Oakey on the same scale as the colossus of Rhodes in Sheffield. Straddling the River Don of course.

  • I named my daughter after this song!

  • What a lovely name! haha concidering that´s my name...

  • A song to dream away. Robbie made a very good cover of this song (on "Rudebox"). He is a great fan of the 80's, like me.

  • I Love you Phil <333

  • Could very well be my favorite 80's track, still love it.

  • Brilliant song!

It is a song we can all relate to when meeting an old flame and the awkwardness that comes with it.

  • I agree...especially if you still think about them..
