  • this is fucking awkward

  • I'm from Italy: in 1994-95 I was in UK, at Warwick, for a MSc, and I still remember this program.

It was really fun... even if I didn't get all the jokes then.

Thanks for posting: it reminds me of a very special year in my life!

    Piero

  • 2.15 when they talk over each other ...hahahaha !

  • remind anyone of jools holland?

  • Back in '94, when my dad asked my grandad if he had seen this on TV, he replied "I saw a few, but he's not a patch on Parkinson". Bless him :D

  • "Do the anecdote, do it now."

  • Legend for uploading this :) Has anyone been watching the Leveson Inquiry?

  • Nicola Murray MP!

  • sooooo good.u guys should check his book the audio book one is best its steve reading it

  • SPEAK UP!

  • I kinda feel bad for her...

  • A perfect show for people like me who love Steve Coogan and ABBA. <3

  • @ivorbigonee You upload them and you can label them how you want

  • Anyone got any thoughts as to why the name of Glenn Ponders band changed every week??

  • i do remember where i was- a child, thinking this show was for real

  • i watched look around you 2 before this. s'easy to see some of the inspiration.

  • Thumbs up for the green sofa!!! :-)

  • Brilliant. And the old BBC2 ident!

  • I remember being sat in a holiday flat in southport.. watching this with my parents.. and them thinking it was real :)... Ahhh happy moments...

  • porn legend is a anagram of glen ponder! i love all 3 partridge series but i personally think the kmky was the best. the radio 4 cd's are brilliant!

  • you really ought to get a dust pan and brush!

  • I always thought Rebecca Black was lovely. I think she's really attractive.

  • @bassben04 dude she's 13

  • @JBroMCMXCI HAH, Oh dear. I meant Rebecca Front (the actress here) was showing some Friday whilst commenting haha.

  • ArHh-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaarrghhhhhhh!

  • AH-HAAAAAAA!

  • "It's like one of your stories, isn't it?"

  • @rightfredsdead - You can tell the horse dung bit is unscripted because Armando Iannucci can be heard laughing uproariously at it. Go back and listen.

  • Very very good, but I have to say I'm Alan Aprtridge is far superior. Then again, it was the best British sitcom between Fawlty Towers and The Thick of It, so, y'know...

  • this is funny, but i think as he continued this character over the years alan partridge became more 3 dimensional and funnier.

  • That horse has some fantastic comic timing

  • One of the the best modern comic creations?

    i'm inclined think yes...

  • @bangtokhammer bar David Brent.

  • Good Man greyman45 u legend!!

  • I always used to watch this before match of the day was on, very funny.

  • Six dislikes LOL

  • Did this really go out live or is that just in the Alan Partridge world?

  • @TheGudZeBadAnDaFozzy No it wasnt a live show it was recorded live but it didnt go out on the night live.

  • ok this guy is funny!!!!

  • "Sorry?" "Sorry?"

  • Hello - could you slightly alter the order of the wording on the titles on the thumbnails. You can't tell if it's Part One or Five or Four or whatever ..... THANKS!!!

  • The horse moment was unexpected, so Steve and the others Ad libbed.

  • @greyman45

Thanks for clearing that up (if you pardon the pun!). Another interesting fact is that one of the girls in the punk band is played by Melanie Hudson who appeared later on as co-host Nina Vanier in the Paris episode. Coogan tended to use his own little group of actors and performers repeatedly - and they were always pretty good.

  • @greyman45 you big liar. i was there and that was in the script.

  • @rightfredsdead Yes, so was greyman45 (he was the bass player in the band).

And assuming you were in the audience, how would you know what was in the script?

  • @greyman45 lol and that was the only funny bit

  • @greyman45 hey! your hometown's chatham too - with the ever so wonderful kevin eldon. i moved away 5 or so years ago now but my family's still there.

  • One thing I wondered about this episode is whether the horse manure was in any way planned or scripted. The horse does its business on the floor when Sue Lewis is talking. Both Steve Coogan and Patrick Marber incorporate the incident into their scripts ('no manners but what a critic'). I wonder if they both improvised around it. They did a very good job if they ad-libbed.

  • Knowing me Alan Partridge, SACKING you Glen Ponder

  • @pur33vil

    We are like twins

  • Greyman, sorry if my previous comment offended you. I was mainly interested in whether Glen Ponder was an actor or musician. It seems he was multitalented. Also, most of the music played on the show was well played. It seemed like a good band.

  • @TheMorbius1 Don't be daft, I wasn't really insulted. Thanks for the comments though. I love working with Steve Coogan, he was in character all day when we recorded the shows. Steve Brown is a top man and his work with Rumer is first class.

  • @TheMorbius1 The music was played by ABBA

  • @agnetha9 Well, I guess you would know Agnetha.

  • @TheMorbius1 Of course! :)

  • They should bring this show back. I know it probably won't happen but Alan Partridge was hilarious

  • the video is wrecked man

  • @noodles41

I will repeat what I said in an earlier post, it works perfectly on my pc in the UK, so maybe it is just a youtube problem in certain zones. I have comments from viewers, who are obviously able to watch it too, sorry.

  • @greyman45 Same problem (and I'm in the UK), but I just refreshed and scrolled over to about 1 minute in, and it's better now.

  • @greyman45 Works great for me in the UK, thanks for the upload.

  • @noodles41

I think you're being a bit harsh on the uploader who went to the trouble of posting the entirety of what has proven to be another media satire classic from the Coogan/Iannucci/Morris alumni.

If you're talking about the jerkiness of the video you could always try selecting a lower res setting - switch from 480p to 360p. It's not the uploader's fault when YouTube automatically uses the wrong stream.

  • I love the irony that the fountain is to symbolise the fountain of knowledge on the show and he has to turn the fountain off. haha

  • Were all the members of the band genuine musicians? What about Glen Ponder? They always had to say 'aha' in that rather sad, deadpan way.

  • @TheMorbius1 I feel rather insulted, Glen Ponder, aka Steve brown, is a very well known composer/musician/actor, who is resposible for all of Harry Hills music and is producer and musical director for the new artist, RUMER. All the music was played live, up on the gantry/podium.

    Kevin

  • @greyman45 Why do you feel insulted by TheMobius' rather reasonable question? Are you Steve Brown or do you just have issues.

  • @bazonics Not really insulted!! I am just a pedant, so I always check out the channel that has posted a vid, out of curiousity. Talking of which, you have got some excellent stuff on your channel, brought back memories.

  • @PopolVuh3 been watching these vids on here for over a year and works perfect........you need to switch from dial up its 2010 fella =)

  • thanks for posting Kevin - top series and still really good to watch

  • excellent bass ;)

  • video is shot

  • @PopolVuh3

Not sure why you posted the comment, as it is perfect on my pc.

  • @greyman45 Weird i's working now AH HA!

  • alan partridge has actually got a YT account under the name of BILLYtSHERMAN...day out in blackpool???

    "RED HOT!!!!...aHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!"

  • :( The pilot episode is gone. That was the best one!!! Anyone know where we can see it again?

  • coogan is the best comedy character actor since peter sellers - and he writes his own material too albeit with co-writers. Only ricky gervaise and larry david are in the same league.

  • @bunterx Agree, love him, but I'm sorry you have to have John Cleese and Sacha Baron Cohen in there and you have the complete set

  • As a 12 year old when watching this on TV, never did I think I'd actually see the real-life version of this programme on television one day - Alan Titchmarsh's afternoon show is absolutely like this.

  • Sax player in Glen Ponder's band was Gary Barnacle from Leisure Process. How I love this/The Day Today/Brass Eye, best British comedy ever.

  • Comedy>football.

  • Awesome. Coogan is a genius

  • "speak up"

  • It shows you what good actors Steve Coogan and Rebecca Front are that they can improvise so well with the horse dung, to say that it was unscripted, any lesser mortal would have just cracked up!

    =D

  • 10/10

  • why there always same women playing different roles ?????????

  • aww lovely Rebecca Front <3

  • Haha The irony he shot a man in the last episode!

  • The horse is well trained. It shit at just the right time.

  • thx for th euploads,, made this into a play list:

    /watch?v=XIMY_niu-oc&feature=PlayList&p=36C18DDDEEE02B00&index=0

  • There is so much I love about this show. One small thing that is very awesome the awkwardness of the stairs all the guests have to walk down. Genius touch.

  • Concrete floor - even though you can hear it echo from the wood. Eh, it's still awesome.

  • Poor Lady Lovely Knickers, Sue Lewis, she was very harshly treated there, lol

  • I always assumed that the laughter for this was (very skillfully) canned. I'm delighted to hear that it wasn't! It's strange to watch it again, knowing that the laughs are, presumably, just the general public laughing at what they're seeing and hearing. Adds a whole new dimension to it for me. Thanks ever so much for posting!

Did the actors try to do their segments in a "one-er", to keep the audience with them, or were there frequent stops and starts as actors forgot their lines?

  • you can tell its not canned......

  • In 1994 when I was 12 years old, I certainly couldn't.

  • after he loses this show and starts doing the other sitcom thing about him, my favorite parts when someone reckognizes him and he yells aha, then they guy gets all awkward its so funny, sigh, british humor...

  • I could not be loving you any more greyman45. You are a legend and have restored my faith in humanity.

  • A HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wonder what the audience made of all this back in 1994. They're on an entirely fake show, everyone was probably a bit less media-savvy, and the host guiding them along was a complete monster. They're all laughing but it must have been a newer, stranger experience to the studio sitcom setup.

  • Maybe they knew it was a bit a satirical show?

  • Well yeah, but I'm just saying, this along with Day Today were quite revolutionary media satires, and I'm sure it took a while for it to sink in. Hell, even as late as 2001 with the Brass Eye Special, very few got it and the laziest journalists found it much easier just to get outraged. Iannucci and his clan are gamechangers.

  • I agree, this was brand new TV. Some people must have seen him in The Day Today as the sports reporter but I reckon the majority of the audience wouldn't really have known how much was fake and how much was real. Its just quality TV and a great idea.

  • The audience were shown clips of the day today, in case they were not familiar with A P.

Interestingly, after the airing of the first show, some of the more gullible members of the great british public, complained to the BBC, that he was too rude to his guests.

  • THANKS 4 POSTING THIS

  • Amazing comedy....one of the best comedy programmes of all time.

    Simple as that...

  • omg... i used to think this was a serious dude

  • I love how there's a different band name every episode :)

  • 1234lengend im on the same boat as you!good to see were it all came from.

  • Alans sports commentaries are priceless

  • I have watched and brought both series of i'm Alan Partridge which is awsome, however it always mentions his show alot in the first series and i had never watched his chat show so cheers for the upload.

  • knowing me knowing you. They sure use that song obsessively

  • What a moronic statement. Do you understand satire? You must be American!

  • Comment removed

  • Name 5 comedians that 'try hard' over there please.

  • @tomthefunky Money is why British comedians try to be successful in America.

  • @graemeoliver84: And money is why most Americans could care less about being successful in England. There's none to be made.

  • @tomthefunky Yeah, there's no money here, that's why Roman Abramovitch lives here.

  • @graemeoliver84: Roman Abramovitch? I never heard of him.

  • greyman, you must remember Gary Barnacle, sax player and fellow member of Chalet et al

  • Holy Christ is this show great.

"We could have had a horse jump! Now we've got a lump of dung!"

  • so many people who watch this upload are gonna think this is a real talk show, its the jokest sitcom ever

  • Were you in Chalet? That's fucking awesome.

  • Chalet, Lazarus, Ferrari and the others too.I am playing bass on all my uploads. There is more to come.

  • Was the conductor just an actor, or was he conducting at all?

  • Glen Ponder was played by my good friend Steve Brown, who is multi-talented and was indeed conducting us up on that podium. Steve is also MD on my Brian Conley clips, plus the Harry Hill shows. Check him out! Kevin.

  • LOL that is epic! how did you end up with that gig?

  • Simple, it's who you know and a bit of luck!!

  • Thanks so so much for the upload. :D
