  • if rappers were more responsible and socially conscious it would make a big difference to the black psyche all around the world.

  • whats the intro song ?

  • how did this boy managed to stay out of a mental institution?

  • There are Africans who are white ( skin color ) , so why are Negroes in the US labeling themselves as African-Americans? There is no shaking that stigma of the " white" man, irregardless of the location.

  • @stucktoit909 You're joking right? Did the whites that currently reside in South Africa not come from The Netherlands and the United Kingdom? Didn't most of the whites that settled in Namibia not come from Germany? Aren't those countries that I mentioned European countries? We have a right to call ourselves Africans as we do please because we are the original folks from Alkebulan, and there is no shame in considering ourselves such. The whites in the US weren't robbed of their history but we kno

  • @pusifut that we came from various countries throughout the continent.

  • Please look up on YouTube:

Dr. Cornel West & Carl Dix On Gay Marriage

Dr. Cornel West Urged To Run For President By Jeff4Justice

  • before 300 AD North Africa was christian who was killed by Muslim. slavery is everywhere that time, not just christian, not just muslim, but over all culture. Just want to make sure no one blame one race or one culture, for a human problem

  • The intro music to Dr. Cornel is alright, but if you use Pablo Augustus' "Africa 1983" you could send him off the CHARTS!!!! which is good.

  • The intro music to Dr. Cornel is alright, but if you use Pablo Augustus' "Africa 1983" you could send him off the CARTS!!!! which is good.

  • Thank you sir, you know, my husband's family, was, cia and us army, America, wake up, and step out of the sheep suits.

  • I think Mr. Cornel West is absolutely right on task, "Sir, God Bless You," I believe my introduction to you this day, has been a blessing on my life. God's work.

    N.California.

  • West surcame to liberalism.

  • all colors have suffered .. preach on West preach on

  • Testament 2 greatness

  • The stuff Cornel West says is weak.

  • Let's put it this way: These two races just don't get along very well with each other, and probably never will. And in the general sense, with respect to the positive contributions each race has brought to the table of life, Caucasians benefit very little from blacks while blacks benefit BIG TIME from Caucasians. That's the main difference, along with the never-ending black-on-Caucasian crime epidemic, of course.

Please, don't call me a racist. I'm just keeping it real.;-)

  • @guyNbluejeans Actually it's the reverse. The Caucasian benefit greatly on all levels. It's propagated that Blacks don't do much for Caucasians but in reality the contributions made by Black people even though these same people are oppressed daily and have been for 400 years, they have achieved a level of financial and economic gain not seen by many oppressed people in other countries.

  • @Ryooken If you're happy I'm happy.

  • @guyNbluejeans - actually Caucasions exist because of people of color. Where in Europe do you find natural resources abundantly? Nowhere. The Caucasions had to murder and pillage other people's lands to survive. When they couldn't even perform the work themselves, they had to oppress a people to do it for them. If anything, the Caucasion is a cancer to all people of color on this planet.

  • @TheTruthhurts706 You poor ignorant brainwashed sap. First off, there's no such thing as "people of color" (unless you want to say that Caucasians are because of our different eye and hair colors). Races that are not Caucasian are monochromatic. Look it up. Second off, you black folks are not in a position to complain about anything due to the fact that you would have gone extinct long ago had Caucasians not saved your race by generously sharing our vaccines and technologies over the decades!

  • @guyNbluejeans I beg to differ. In fact caucasions would have gone extinct had they not left Europe and pillaged everyone else's land. Bringing disease and murder to native peoples everywhere. What about all of the sciences and technology they stole from elsewhere to exploit. Out of the richest countries today, mostly European, which one has the natural resources abundant enough to support it. NONE! It's all stolen from other lands. Who goes around the world making war?

  • @TheTruthhurts706 You're typical of many, many blacks. Instead of finding the humility to admit that yours is a failed race in many ways, you reach by insisting BS is true. Just look at what is around you, never mind what happened or might of happened thousands of miles away long ago. There you are taking for granted Edison's wonderful invention as well as Carrier's invention and on and on. But me? There's nothing I own that was created by a black mind. YOU owe me!!

  • @guyNbluejeans Obviously you don't know history or how it plays into what happens today and in the future. I won't argue semantics with you. Without going down a long list of black inventions I'll just mention this. The traffic light. You may not own it, but your tax dollars pay for it. So everytime you're stopped at a red light, you can spend your time waiting for it to turn green knowing that a black man created it.

  • Truthhurts706 I'm calling a truce. For the record (the way I see it): We're all just tiny specs in this strange world encased in our various bodies provided for by the Creator. I have a lot of love for anyone that's just trying to have a life without harming others. I've known lots of black folks that had hearts of pure gold and, too, have known plenty of whites that have been pure shit. It's not all cut-and-dry. My anger stems from what I see are growing numbers of blacks that are full of hate.

  • @guyNbluejeans - I accept your truce and extend my hand in gratitude. Although I don't believe in the creator as you mention (I'm agnostic), yet we agree. I'm of the opinion that religion, much like race, has been used throughout history to divide. Either way, I dont believe in any form of racial superiority. While I understand your anger, as you say "stems from growing numbers of blacks full of hate". It is quite possible that they in turn see the same in whites.

  • @TheTruthhurts706 "...Caucasian is a cancer to all people..."-would you tell that to a person who's half black/half white? No race is perfect, they all have their faults.

  • @LGLG69 I'm mixed. But I identify with my black heritage, yet I acknowledge my other genealogy as well. If I get pulled over by the cops guess what...I'm black. When I go into a fancy store guess what...I'm black. When i apply for a job guess what...I'm black. I agree that no race is perfect and all have done their harm to humanity. But none on a scale grander than the Caucasion. I realize that many white people are not racist today and neither am i. Historically however, I point stands.

  • smart guy

  • I still in a cave. ) Love to all and GOD bless! AB.

  • he looks white mixed with black.

  • While you are in the ARMY you are killing innocent people, women & children, it's a low life job murder. When the white folks was murdering you was it right? if you know it was wrong, why are you doing the same thing to others. The Arabs have a right to live in their own country free from TYRANNY, just like you should have been free to live in Africa FREE from TYRANNY. Give up that nonsense there is nothing in it for you, either way you lose. America is dying from foolishness.

  • How do you keep a people down? You 'never' let them 'know' their history.

The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after Little Big Horn, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. Read, and visit site/history, rescue at pine ridge. com

  • So much of it was due to people selling their own people... Family and friends. This isn't one sided. I hate that race is such an issue. There are more important things to be focused on. What are we going to leave our children? How are we going to eliminate the stereo-types? Leave the past in the past. Life is to short to bury yourself in what was. You don't need to seek justice. Let GOD do it.

  • @MongoloidBabyUSA Think of who influenced those blacks.......who settled........no who took over their lands and just left?? what happened when they left??? why did it happen??? hmmmm

  • @poshportia62 Good enough for the 7th Cavalry.

  • Stop making this a race issue... It all boils down to economics and the decisions we make in our life time. At one time or another most of our descendants have been slaves or treated in a very inhumane manner. Unfortunately, there are evil people in this world that feed and benefit on the suffering of others. I came from a very poor family that was living in Mississippi, of all places. Race was never an issue. I was taught and still believe that a man should be judged on his actions.

  • you are a dumbass!!!

  • Bet thats the only four words you know. You pick up a non-fiction book and read it sometime.

  • yeah right

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah right, what? Some of the most influential people in the world today are black. Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, Tiger Woods, Collin Powell, Michael Jordan and Lebron James. Thats just to name a few. They worked hard fro what they have achieved. They deserve it. Thats the beauty of living here in this great country the United States of America. Dream it! Make the sacrifice! Enjoy the fruit of your labor! Love to all and Peace! AB.

  • Including Dr Cornell West my brotha

  • Nice thegoodrevdr... Life is what you make it. We all need to look past so many of the trespasses that our forefathers have committed. Learn from past but look to the future. WE need to ask GOD to open up our eyes as well as our hearts. We are 99.9% the same. We share the same common bonds. We are family. People are still to close minded to accept that. I was raised in a military family and guess what? We are all GREEN! ) I love anyone that has a good heart and finds strength in GOD.

  • What if I don't find strength in god? We can't be friends?

  • Lebron? Really?

  • @arthureblair one day Bro's. Chieka Anta Diop, Asa Hiliard, Charles Finch and Naim Akbar will be completely ubiquitous and spoken in the same breath of those great individuals you have stated.

  • Few faces in high places doesn't eliminate the suffering that still exist.

  • @arthureblair

Good point, but I have to disagree with calling our President and Tiger Woods, black. President Obama is bi-racial and Tiger Woods refers to himself as Cablinasian.

  • @Showyourself2730 oh pleeeeeese u know who you u are when u walk down the street

    black isn't a nationality it's a physical appearance

    lets keep it REAL

  • ummmm, maybe reality?? race ain't no joke or nothing at all.. Race needs to be acknowledged more in societal activities other than negative stigmas...

  • so sadd to look at but nice video click on vicegrip88 an check out mr obama world best top song 4 the world worst economical crisis

  • We need more positive music on the Airwaves...Right now, Jeremith BIRTHDAY SEX is playing everywhere..The Content is very sexual and I would not want my young children singing the lyrics to the song...The Black Community is already Plague with High rate of HIV infection and teenage pregnacies..We do not need anymore songs promoting "sex."

  • Perhaps one of the most tragic ironies of history - the African American embrace of Christianity or Islam; a type of mass Stockholm syndrome:

"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. " (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)

Your slaves are your brethren upon whom Allah has given you authority. (Hadith - Sahih Al-Bukhari 3.721)

  • Good point, but know that "slave" from its linguistic origin does not carry the same connotation

  • Religious apologists like to hide behind semantics. But their flimsy positions sooner or later end up getting crushed by the evidence:

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

  • Valid dissent, however we have to consider how easily the implications and overtones are changed in scripture from one version of the bible to the next.

"And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he died under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money (Exodus 21-20-21 KJV)."

    The juxtaposition of these text speaks for itself;

  • This version especially convinces; changing the gender of "maid" who by definition is female.

"If he continue a day or two". What, smiting? "he is his money"; What, the man, the servant ; or the maid (now masculine) is his money?

Let's just indulge this equivocation for a moment. If you are allowed to beat a servant just short of killing him, imagine what you can do to a slave.

The bible when it first came out was already way past its sell by date to serve as a guide to ethical behavior.

  • The message fits and your point still stands. Good work.

  • I am Eritrean (a country which was part of ethiopia) christians (read history) and my ancestors were christians when all Europeans were living in caves...how about that?

  • I remember being impressed by the admirable egalitarian, and humanitarian mindset of the EPLF - achieving solidarity by avoiding gender, religious or ethnic bias.

    Amazingly progressive considering the circumstances.

Maybe it'll be the first on the continent to rid itself -the way Europe almost has -of the religiosity it's currently plagued with, once its economic prosperity is driven by people educated in science and technology.

Religion was invented by and for people living in caves.

  • You are right it is the 'people educated in science and technology', i mean the west Europeans who don't have the legacy of crime and violence humanity has ever known...and are the most relgious...they kill people to build churchs..don't worry africans are following the footsteps of their masters on their way to civilisation-the only way being through violence...and no one is going to get away with what has been done and is being done...

  • Thats right fctchk, and get this now the idiots is over there in Kemet destroying the real history. The Alpha of history!

  • Abraham, Jesus, Budda and even Mohammed never lived in caves

  • When were Europeans living in caves, especially in 33 AD? BS, Ever heard of the Roman Empire, are so stupid that you can say the citizens of the Roman Empire or even the barbarian tribes lived in caves. They had impressive architecture engineering and government in BC & AD

  • @ Mong, When were Europeans living in caves? Are you kidding me? I see you don't know much about history. Europeans were living in caves for a loooonng time, prior to 33 Ad. They lived in the caves and hillsides of europe for thousands of years. The europeans were BARBARIANS for awhile. I guess you don't watch the HISTORY & DISCOVERY channel much. Their impressive architecture and engineering was brought to them by the MOORS (Blacks) from Northern Africa 711-1492. Read Moors of Spain. S. Poole.

  • Personally, I think I need to exercise my own ideas. Let's not wait until we get our degrees to see the need to give back, especially when we already ran out of time a long time ago.

    AP

  • If you don't, start some grassroots informal organization with your peeps to give back. It's hard though you have find dedicated peeps who know and understand what they are getting themselves into. Be flexible. We have so many options we sometimes don't know where to start.

    AP

  • what amazes me about youtube is that the most viewed videos are those of music. i look at the views of cornell west for example (32,000) and beyonce, lil wayne have over a million of views, we are definitely a lost peole. i don't know about others, but i don't have the hope spoken of by west and many others..

  • Hope is worth it's salt only when measured against what might appear to be impossible odds.Hope is wasted on plausible goals like another sunrise; To utilize a powerful sentiment such as hope one must grit one's teeth and (for the lack of a better term) shoot for the stars.

  • @slickwalt I think listing to anything this man has to say will make any American of any race worse off in their ability to succeed in the world.

If you want to listen to a black intellectual Mr Thomas Sowell is the best place to smart. By far and away one of the top minds in the USA at this moment.

Mr. West talks a maze of nonsensical neomarxist babble.

    watch?v=ERj3QeGw9Ok

  • @slickwalt completely agree with you.

  • @slickwalt Furthermore, the music you list sucks. Most of the good music only gets views in the thousands or hundred thousands. And Brittney Spears gets 20 mill or more. Ridiculous.

  • @slickwalt Bullshit

  • @slickwalt not even the political rappers get millions of views.

  • @slickwalt

becuz our society cares more about being entertained than being enlightened

  • i want to help my people and my country like him.

  • Start now, fam.

  • How do you suggest we go about changing things?

  • We can start locally within our immediate communities by volunteering our services to the youth in any way we deem is necessary and in a manner or position where we feel most comfortable doing so.

    AP

  • Nothing big, but start somewhere small if you can. 1 hour with a kid at an afterschool program teaching him or her basic arithmetic can bring that child (though its hard to see at times)... a warmth that they don't receive in the household especially in the urban communities. They see familiar black faces for one showing them that it's cool to be smart and its normal to want to learn and care about others.

    AP

  • Look to your passions, search for resources and public leaders that may want to hear your proposals on bringing about change. Ask for advice from those experienced community organizers before you. You don't need to start your organization... chances are you will find an organization within your community that does outreach... build off that.

    AP

  • My beef with community organizers and the like is that they appear to be all talk.I never really know whether or not I can trust someone enough to follow him/her.

  • We need a brother this brilliant to stay out of politics and stay with, up hold, enhance, and teach we the people, how to apprehend politics as one of steps to a bold new humanity. Love this guy.

  • tis true

  • west is a genius to bad hell never run for white house. maybe if it was called the black house.. jk

  • maybe he will get a cabinent position!

  • haldenver why would you say that, u must be white ...why would would throw the "victim" mentality and slave reparations crap away ...like we are going to forget..and then you dont even propose any solution to shit ...Selfish ass "forget the "we as a people", and think more "I, as an individual." you sound just dumb

  • You must be white because they will always hate to hear of black folk closing ranks, uniting, and coming together -all of which would indicate a mighty force to be reckoned...sorta like the KKK. Whites aint neva stood as individuals; they've always worked together to oppress others, yet you talk about individuality. "You must be dumb..."

  • the elites don't like to see anything that disturbs the status quo, anything that gets a group outside the clearance rack and shopping mall is harshy oppressed. there is a long legacy of oppression of africans, i am white so i can never know it first hand but i can state with others that i am not blind to it. i see the black experience as a metaphor for all oppressed peoples. we can learn a lot. entire generations have grown up without divisive lines, lets build the community of tommorrow.

  • i say lets not forget the brutal fascism of the past but lets bury it. my contention is that if we keep along these dividing lines of black vs. white we are going to keep revisiting that bigotted past again and again in the present. let the past die but let us learn from it. what can we learn? lets listen to cornell west when he says we are all brothers and sisters - that is the power of love and justice.

  • u just misinterpreted the syntax of my response, the use of quotes meant that they are not my words they were the words of whom i was responding to, ..Pick up a book playa

  • Life is not stagnant...EVERYTHING IS A WORK IN PROGRESS!

  • IGNORANT PEOPLE have no idea what Cornel speaks of... History repeats...and those that don't learn the lessons feel the wrath. You don't have to contribute to anyone's salary to know the damned truth or at least be willing to investigate to know for yourself. Thanks Hidden Beach and Cornel West.

  • So are you saying we as a people should forget our pass and move on. To be perfectly honest we are still having problems because of our color.

  • Yes - forget the "we as a people", and think more "I, as an individual. It is racist group-think and perpetuates racial division. All this "victim" mentality and slave reparations crap needs to go ASAP. How possible that is remains to be seen, but can't see anyone trying that direction.

  • A famous quote"

"History repeats itself because people don't get it the first time."

  • You can't know where your going without knowing where you've been

    cheers

Please elaborate on you opinion im interested in your pov

  • If i know i am going to New York tomorrow , it is not exclusively because I know I went to Alambama yesterday! Sometimes the past is no guide to the future ; sometimes it is a warning of what to avoid.......Individuals are not biologically fungible. The sanctity of the individual is paramamount : slavery did not respect it ; reparations arguments ignore it ; and Cornel does not even understand it.

  • i am so glad to see so many positive comments! He is inspiring

  • Culture is more important than race. A black man from ZAIRE lives his life in a different way than a black man from Cleveland, or a white man from Argentina, or a red man from PAkistan. Race should stop being used in this country as a designation to classify people.

  • Don't get me wrong--I love Dr. West--but I don't believe that race truly exists except for a convenient way to classify people in competition for resources. (jobs, power, best neighborhoods) I see you speaking the truth. You woul look at me and say there is no way I am "black", but the human condition is universal.

  • This man is brillant. I love how, like most people in a position like his would go and right a book, but he knows that no teenage, young peron is going ot go read it. He understands that the way to reach young people, especially african americans is through music. I am glad to see that he is trying to reach the future of htis nation

  • Dr. West has written books! Start with The Cornell West Primer.

  • "Perpetual Teenagers" never seem to mature. There is a turning point (There should be!) for all HipHop heads that once they reach a certain level of maturity, they are no longer lead by certain types of HipHop but simply enjoy its entertainment value, if any. Sadly for many, HipHop is still a driving force in who they are and will continue to become. In todays society a mature mind cannot help but be disturbed by popular music. Dr West gives music to a mature mind. I grow to appreciate it daily.

  • I continue to struggle with my growth, because of my loyalty to this HipHop music and popular music I love. But I thank Dr West for his wisdom as an elder and only hope I continue to grow into someone my parents can be proud of. Its not a matter of His music replacing popular music its the balance in the messages within the music, that the listener should actively seek out. Peace

  • GO DR. WEST!

  • i love what he stands for.

  • Bravo, bravo!

  • Dr. Cornel West-One of the greatest African intellectuals in America.

  • Wouldn't be hard to be "one of the best"

    Aren't a whole lot of them around...maybe a dozen top-flight Afro-American Intellectuals around...

  • I admire what mr. west is trying to do....it has the best of intentions and is noble but let's get real....ppl of any race or color wouldn't wanna hear that type of lyrics/music.

Anything they can shake their ass to and lyrics that concern any of the topics that Mr. west mentioned early on in the clip is what is appealing to the public at large. Its a shame but that's reality. Music is a very powerful tool and too often it is misused and abused to make ppl more stupid.

  • It'f funny that you use music. i was just sitting here saying "if i had choice to go hear a forum by Mr. west or to go a concert with some of these lame rappers today, who would i go see?" I'll take Mr. west on that one lol

  • Well I guess you and I are in a very small minority....However, I'm a jazzman. And I prefer to hear instrumental music with no lyrics, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Cannonball Adderley etc.

  • lol...allow me to catch-up.....lol i been caught up in hip hop for too long

  • young fool only at the end will you understand, luckily there are the warren buffetts who are enlightned enough to understand the inequties of the market systems current downfalls. while i am not a communist who are self righteous such as yourself i can see easily the downfall of a consistent demand for low cost production which has produced the 9 trillion dollar deficit and declining dollar that cannot be sustained indefinitely. Lord forgive them they not what they do.

  • Public intellectuals are few and far between. Look into how much money he contributes to research on African American culture, improving education, and how humble his lifestyle is compared to the real capitalists - I'm sure you think Rupert Murdoch is a visionary. The hypocrisy of white supremacist uneducated idiots like yourself is really what is astonishing. Your part of the problem - try taking a real risk and become part of the solution. It's always easier to be a critic than a creator.

  • I love his vocalabary and his passion of his race, Martin Luther King would be very proud of this great human being!

  • Truly I love this man.

    Thank you Mr. West.

You have reminded me what being a legend is all about.

  • I meant I have the your videos on my page

  • Dr. West I will always remember what you told me. "You Cant lead the people if you dont love the people, and you cant save the people if you dont serve the people" O I got our videos on my name(@ the Tavis smile event).ONE LOVE

  • I hope people understand that Dr. West, Michael Dyson are our philosophers of our century.

  • We Need more people or leaders like Dr. West!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love u cornell...u are our messiah today....

  • Whoa. Jesus Christ is the Messiah.

  • yeah. im sure even Dr. West wouldnt aprove of you saying he is the messiah. Thats some dangerous stuff. Christ is the messiah.

  • Well, Jesus ain't coming back to earth any day soon, so maybe we should listen to those who are here.

  • prophet for some maybe :P

  • great work!

  • Preach Dr. West..
