  • are you a barber? Never saw such a 3 pass smooth shave before.

  • couple of question:

    1. how much do those razors run?

2.what was it that you applied to your face after finishing? Looked like a Truffit & Hill.

    3. any reason for having 5 razors?

  • @Eninety2 Thiers-Issard has his set on there web site if I remember correctly. It is a custom set with the days of the week in italian. The reason for 7 razors is you have a freshly honed blade everyday.Don't know about the aftershave he used. You can find this video on badger and blade.com with all his comments on it.

  • You can tell by the.sound of the razor moving across the face that there's some real hair popping shaving going on. I learned how to do it from studying. this video.

  • Like-a-gentleman!

  • I am a beautiful but how much water?!

  • I have been using a straight razor for many years now and these guys are great at getting you to "want to use a straight razor". But it does not go as smooth or as fast as shown! I guarantee you that razor is set up for this demo only. It would not cut hair or as he wants, his face! This is a show. What do you NOT see in the soap on the sponge? Hair ! Use your head guys. Don't be fooled and spend a lot of money on a razor before you try one out first. Also sharpening is very hard to learn.

  • @TheWesswind I'll guarantee those razors are razor sharp. They are custom made Thiers-Issard Razors with legal Ivory scales. Thiers-Issard will not sell a dull razor. They are all hand sharpened, honed and stropped to perfection before leaving the factory. Yes you are correct there is no hair and yes he is shaving slightly faster than he would normally, but as you say it is a demonstration. But you can get close to this speed, I do, with out cutting myself and use a cheap Dovo.

  • You have quite an original way of handling your straight razor, but - hey! - if that works for you. Shave on!

  • Sir,

thank you so much for this excellent video, it is very instructional. Can you tell me why you use the opposite side hand to shave? I'm a newbie and it seems using the right hand to shave right cheek and vice versa is the basic pattern I read about but your technique is superb.

    thanks in advance

  • My last comment was cut off at the end. I wanted to say that Chimensch has helped me with my shaving through this video more than anyone else.

  • The video quality does not do this shave justice unless you skip a day. Shaving with a straight is like playing American football without a facebar on your helmet. This is not easy. You have to maintain the sharpness of the blade, maintain the right angle and light pressure so you cut the whiskers and not your skin. The reward is a closer, comfortable shave and for those of us who persevered to learn a feeling of accomplishment and enjoying something that was previously a chore. Chimensch

  • Just another run-of-the-mill video with someone who shaved 10 minutes before making this. And just like the others, then we're see a super-fast shave that comes out perfect. I'm really getting feedup with these people. Next time just "shave" with a credit-card since your face is already smooth.

  • One bowl contains the shaving soap, and the larger bowl keeps the lather warm. The water jacket where he dips the brush extends below where the lather is mixed.

  • I don't understand why he you were lathering with two separate bowls?

  • @yalsum. Edges have to take rest, microscopic teeth can develop for 24h, you need at minimu 2 razors. The 'semainier' (7day set razor) become an evidence when you stop collecting razors : you find the blade , shape and size, who suits you the best ad then you own a semainier. Seems to be thiers issard in ivory. Properly maintained they have , each, their own particular shaving, each day. Thanks for sharing

  • Can you tell me why you have more than one razor? I understand that they are beautiful things to collect, but all the ones in your holder seem to be the same. Do they have different blades or something? Very nice video, too.

  • @yaisum It is 7day set Every straight razor is engraved with the day of the week In this case, days are in italian language (Domenica/Sunday, you can see at minute 1,35 ) you can order from this, but is too expensive 3000 euro

  • Wich size is your straight razors? 5/8 or 6/8? Wich carbon steel use from Thiers-Issard? C135 carbonsongs or "historic" or Le Grelot? The grind type is full hollow or half hollow?

    Thanks.

  • Great video, helped me a lot on my first shave!

  • He is very professional!Thank u for this video! We would be so happy if we could watch more videos about this man's shaving!

    Thank you!

  • rasatura davvero impeccabile, rasoi fantastici e ottimo inglese....complimenti!senza dubbio tra i migliori video sulla rasatura con rasoio a mano libera che si trovino in rete...

  • that sponge is a great idea. I'm going to use it in my everyday routine as well. Cheers.

  • wonderful example on proper skin stretching. my face is always slippery after my pass so its hard to get a grip and stretch properly.

  • Against the grain on your upper lip? At this stage neither me, nor my C-Mon are up to the task? Hats off to your technique and control.

  • Nice job, you make it look so easy... I think it'll take me a while to get the hang of it. Who was filming it, your wife? The various camera angles made it seem quite professional.

  • Love the video, I will try the sponge trick

  • Thank you for posting this. It's one of the better straight razor videos i've seen on youtube.

  • Thank you for sharing. I can honestly say I think this vid is one of, if not the best shaving vid I have seen on YouTube.

  • So it looked like it took about an hour to go through this ritual and he shaved himself around 4 times. Shaving with a straight razor seems to only be for men of leisure, not working blokes.

  • @THEFRANKLINFILM nah, it only takes me about 10 minutes. Sure, its a lot longer than whipping a mach 3 around, but it's a much more enjoyable experience, a better shave, and certainly not an hours time.

  • Fantastic video. What size Schwarzweisskeramik scuttle?

    S, L, XL?

I want to order one but it seems like the only outlet is in Germany. Where did you order yours from?

    Thanks

    Ray

  • @jabomano

    Hi Ray,

My scuttle is the XL size. I ordered mine from Germany because I live in Italy however Mama Bear Soaps imports and sells them. Either way, they're not inexpensive.

I'm glad you liked my video.

    Dov

  • Dear Sir,

I refer to your shaving video.

You have your razors in a very nice case, would you tell me where I could obtain this ?

It seems just right for my razors which at the moment are "living" in a Jack Wolfskin "Wachsalon", but it isn't a very nice place for them.

The scuttle seems to be one from"Schwarzweißkeramik", isn't it?

    Yours sincerely,

    Volker Bothe

    Germany

  • @muckerhase1966

Dear Volker, The case is made by Dovo but I don't know where one is available. I would ask a Dovo dealer if they could order one for you. As for the scuttle, you are correct. It is from Schwarzweisskeramik and I like it very much.

    Dov

  • @dprombaum

    Dear Dov,

now that I knew the manufacturer, finding the case was quite easy.

It's Number is 271010, I also already found a dealer where I can order it.

How is the quality of the leather and the zip?

And is the case big enough for 7/8 razors?

Hope I'm not getting on your nerves, in the video it looks very noble, but there is no closeup, and on the manufacturer's site you also can't see to much.

  • @muckerhase1966

    Dear Volker,

You are absolutely not getting on my nerves. Talking about shaving is one of favorite things to do!

The leather and zipper are excellent. My razors are 6/8 and it is a snug fit. I do not think that seven 7/8 razors would fit. The bands are elastic so, if your razors are different sizes, you could probably alternate 5/8 and 7/8 but not all 7/8.

    Hope that helps.

    Dov

  • Very nice video! You have a great control of the blade and a fine technique.

  • @mokujingris1, mbwhoosh, Disburden and AffKhat:

Thank you all for your kind commens.

    Dov

  • Agreed the sponge idea is very neat idea and can't wait to try it out.

I also love that razor case nice and sealed, throw a couple silicon packets in there to absorb any moisture and you don't have to worry at all about rust on your blades. Which by the way are gorgeous :)

Great skin stretching technique as well a very nicely made video

  • I am a follow member on B&B and also on SRP, Thanks for the video, it's great! Awesome quality, are you using a steep angle on this shave? Angle has been something I've struggled with since I have started.

  • Two interesting concepts here: lathering before stropping, then lathering again before shaving, and using a sponge to wipe the razor, saving water and reducing risk of banging blade edge into the faucet. I tried the sponge and it works pretty well--thanks. Anything to bring those power and water bills down.
