These 6 studies by Vaughan Williams sound so rich in brass. The original piano and cello sound wonderful, but, personally, I learned these pieces playing in a wind ensemble in university, and I find it sounds so much richer and warmer in brass. Great performance, and congratulations on your 1st place!
Love the regal, subdued tone this youngster gets out of this instrument. If more folks played this elegant instrument in this manner it would be more popular.
i love this...im playing this for contest in a month, 1st 2nd and 6th movements...you did a great job..i was pretty good when i was in 8th grade, but i sound like you now and im a junior in high school..i wish i had you at my school..we need good euphonium players!! :) very well done :)
@caitymurphy Same here. I'm a sophomore in high school now, I'm mostly doing jazz but sadly im not too great at improvising. Still fun though. I wish there were more people that played it. Have you ever done Tuba Christmas?
Great performance, I wasn't this good when I was 8th grader/ Freshman. My only criticisms are that you need better air support and air supply. Try doing breathing excersizes, this will give you more air and will make you project your sound more (at times you were covered by the piano(might be the recording)). This will also solve any pitch problems.
wtf is the euphonium im a major musician and ive never heard of that.but then again i play string instruments. sound like summing on the table if the elements or a metal lol.beautiful instrument tho
i kno this is unrelated but i hope u keep playing thew bass man stay strong its my pride and joy and Ur really good
Actually, it's not also called the baritone, despite popular middle school band beliefs. The baritone is about 3/4 in size, almost all people playing in grade 5-8 told they're playing the "baritone" but it is almost definitely a euphonium. Search up baritone on wikipedia, then search euphonium. You'll see a difference in size and pipe size and possibly shape.
@squiresuzuki THANK YOU! But sadly I got into the habit of calling it a 'Baritone' in sixth grade. :-( I'm in seventh right now and trying to break the annoying habit. Once, I was walking to my school's band room, holding my Euphonium. (This was still in the early stages of my process to forget) And some random person looks at me and says; "Is that a Euphonium? I haven't seen one in years!" And I simply stared and said "...Thank you." It was a really awkward time for me. :-)
Jeremymdgt, the euphonium is a horn that is in the low brass section. It can be described as a tenor or baritone instrument. There is also a tenor horn and a baritone that are somewhat similar in look to the euphonium. Google "tenor horn" and "euphonium" and you'll find Wikipedia pages with more information. I'm a musician that plays low brass :)
