Realize, these two needed a professor because they were much younger at this time. Even young geniuses need masters to guide them no matter their skill. I know, I've played violin, I went to LaGuardia HS in Manhattan, and I've studied from one of the best violinists in the world, Jerry Beal, who taught Regina Carter and Anne Sophie Mutter. Even the very best need people to be critical of their methods and especially of their thought process regarding sound and written music.
Heavenly... beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Thankyou for sharing this video. I love how they close their eyes and just 'speak' with each other in the moment. Effortless, like a flower opening.

Ma is a yo-yo for betraying his culture. He should be playing an erhu to spread his diverse and rich culture against straight white christian male hegemony. By playing a cello, an oversized fiddle, he reinforces the hegemony. How sad.
You know nothing about the history of music. I would try to explain things to do, but there's too much to say for a 500-word count. How about you do some research before you spew your biased, ignorant nonsense? "Straight, white, Christian make hegemony?" If that doesn't scream "I'm a biased ignorant fool," I don't know what does.

@anisometropie - the role of the music professor is entirely different than that of the performer. I'm sure they value the perspective that she/he can bring to a session. They are amazing performers but they are hardly omnipotent.
@anisometropie You gotta think what a theory genius she must be to not only work with those musicians, but to be able to conduct and compose their ensemble
