The one miserable soul that disliked this not only dishonors his mama, his country and God, but probably has his head up Justin Dweeboid's ass right now having a blue plate special.
I suggest that if we want ELO in the hall of fame that we should start a petition to present to the induction committee. Although internet petitions hold little strength in political arenas, I daresay that the committee would listen if 5000 ppl signed and showed their love and appreciation for ELO. Let's do it!!!
This is what's missing from modern music, lovely unique melodies, great use of backing vocals and the actual use of instruments rather than sitting on a computer in someone's garage. These days, I find that music is just one big swearing competition to see how many profanities people can fit into a song, I haven't heard a song recently where the singer actually holds a note. My friends say that the music I listen to is too abstract. Look who's talking is what I say! ELO FOREVER!! =-D
All this talk of Lennon's influence. Hasn't anyone noticed that at minute 1:10 that "what will it bring" line is COMPLETELY MCCARTNEY...? It's almost uncanny.
I'm 16 and this is the song I listen to, or song when I'm sad it's amazing how Jeff can take classic instruments and more modern instruments and make great music ELO will live on forever.
This is the song I listen and sing when I'm sad glad I found this band the take classic instruments and new instruments and mix them together to make something like this I'm 16 and ELO will never die.
When I was a kid I used to love singing ' though you ride on the wheels of tomorrow' with high hopes of what the future held. I am 51 now, and my son dashed my hopes when he reminded me I'd recently been in a wheelchair! He said "there's your wheels of tomorrow Mum!"
I'm 46...I listened to this album at least a hundred times...lol ...when it first came out when i was in high school... ELO's music still hits me in the same spot it did then...nothing has changed except me missing it...
Do any ELO fans out there want them inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
The just inducted some people and ELO was not one of them. We have to stand up, e-mail the rock and roll hall of fame and tell them why ELO should be inducted. I can't do it alone and i have been trying for monthsto get somthinh going. I can't do it alone, I need some help!
1981 THE YEAR IN ENLISTED IN US ARMY AND DURING BASIC TRAINING I LISTEN THIS SONG EVERYDAY DREAMING 21ST CENTURY...KNOW 30 YEARS SINCE I LEFT PUERTO RICO TO BE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA..THANKS ELO FOR BEAUTIFUL SONGS IN THE 70 AND 80'S
I'm pretty sure it was recorded as a John Lennon tribute. It was recorded a few months after he was murdered, and the whole song is REALLY Beatlesque, could have been taken from Sgt. Pepper's. In the chorus he sings in a way that really sounds like a (pretty good) Lennon impression, and in the end he even put a backward message. Also, the lyrics really sound like they talk about Lennon - "One day you're a hero, next day you're a clown"... Intended or not, it's an amazing song and Beatles tribute!
I have this album in 331/2 record when I was 16, I am now a grandpa. I am still listening it on my turn table and old fashion amplifier, equalizer and tall standing speakers, and it still sound great.
These songs take me back, now I am 49 and can't believe it was so long ago that I listened to these classic songs by ELO. But i still love them today.

This is the sort of song you could imagine (no pun intended) The Beatles writing if they had stayed together - great edgy 'Lennon-style' vocal but with a beautiful 'McCartney-style' melody. Lovely song. Lynne at his best.

@jkjamon Yes, you got it. I always felt that Jeff Lynne's echoing vocals and chords were very closely related to Lennon's style -- which is a very, very good thing, obviously ;-)
@jkjamon I was thinking of marc bolan . . way before his time . 21st century man . we all kissed the ground he walked upon . Wow marc in the wilburys . super super group
I was 13 and in love with my classmate Natahalie..I listened to the album in my walkman..great souvenir..now I'm 40 , just had a kid , and hope one day he'll fall in love with another Nathalie..
I was 14 or 15, had the cassette, played it on a boom box at the beach. I'm sure you remember the "boom box". I'm now 44 and my 8 year old daughter loves some of dad's "old" music.
@GeorgiaPatriot41 When she's older, and if she likes the Good, older music, see if the kids say anything to her. 'Cause i'm 14, (turning 15) in 9th grade, and people say things to me about listening to it. Just today some one said,"Why do you listen to old music?" And I responded with,"Why do you listen to new music?" Of course I got the response,"Because it's new, and in." Long story short, Long Live 70's music and E.L.O
@BorlandRIP7 I got to know.. did you marry Natahalie? For me, it was this voluptuous latino girl named Valina. I was two years your senior when this came out in October of 1981. I miss her. I do not know who "macgyverkickyourass' is, but I am all the greatful he has made it part of his life's work to post this albumn. My son too listens to this albumn, and he knows every word. He is fifteen. I pray this record lives in infamy of all memories like the ones we have. It is nice to visit them here.
Hello..unfortunatelly I did not mary Nathalie..I was too shy to start a relation..But thanx to internet I know where she lives..In Paris , not far away from me..may be one day I'll call her..but inside me I'm still the 13 year old shy kid I was back in 1981.
You should really try getting in contact with her, ask her to go out on a date or something before it's too late. Honestly how I think of it is, we are all human beings. We shouldn't get so scared or shy to talk to another person. Just go for it, or regret you didn't.
@BorlandRIP7 It is the same for me. Isn't it more meaningful now, when you listen to the lyrics, and it dawns on you that this was made in 1980, and released in 1981? I mean, especially when you listen to this song, or "The Way Life's Meant to Be"? How true are these words, even more so now, because this album has achieved a timeless status. I never went very far with Valina either. I seen her last several years ago.. I truly enjoy meeting you. Mail me anytime.
