  • this is Wayne Hussey singing not Eldritch, I got it on a 1/500 white vinyl 7" that i bought 25yrs ago in Sydney..while im showing off and all

  • Did Sister of Mercy come out in the late 80s? or were they earlier? I mean at least as a label deal goes? i could wiki peekie but it's not a "Reliable source"

  • So...does Andy get to sue himself?

  • BUT DON'T YOU KNOW??? IT'S BLACK PLANET DERP

  • I likkmm ?

  • fine combination ..never heard ...

  • This may sound like Black Planet, but I like this version better. It has a more dark atmosphere to it.

  • Only teasing, great post by the way,any other " Sisters of Mercy" tracks with Wayne on 'vocals' i should no about ? Lol !

  • What was Eldritch input in this track anyway ! ,was he having his "photograph" taken at the time i wonder? ;-)

  • "Thank You Sir" Andrew Rules OK !!! " Sisterhood " nice try Wayne ! What an" Eldritch"Wannabe" ! ;-)

  • This band is actually Sisterhood. Old name of The Mission UK before Andrew Eldritch forced them to change it. And yes, the singer is Wayne Hussey who is also ex-guitarist of The Sisters Of Mercy. He is also composer of this song.

  • @nugo13 No, this is The Sisters Of Mercy. An old demo BEFORE Wayne and Craig left (and used this song as Mission). Wayne is the one singing.

The Sisterhood (as used by Wayne) never released anything for Eldritch created his own Sisterhood and released the album Gift, therefore Wayne and Craig were forced to change their name and they chose The Mission.

  • I "Knew" alright,but "Andrew" does it "So" much better !!! ;-).

  • yeah did you know that: the singer is W.hussey. from the mission.....

the best song marian was creat by W.hussey also...;:)

    black planet black world .

  • I "Demand" a new album,I've waited Long Enough!!! It's "Time" Andrew !!! ;-)

  • Revelation 15:2

And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the music of Yahweh.

  • Come on "Eldritch" Get your "Act" together New Album please !!!

  • so is thing song about goths doing meth?

  • fascinating stuff this hearing this raggedy rough diamond version which was later polished to perection. incredible

  • Thank god for the clash between Wayne and Andrew or we would have had no Mission. prefere Waynes version

  • love u andrew and wayne

  • This has a strange, enchanting sound. Maybe because it is a bootleg; probably a bootleg of a bootleg. In either case; The way the melody floats on Wayne Hussey's vocals is spectacular. I prefer this to Black Planet.

Don't misquote me; I think Andrew is phenomenal - but then again I love Marvin Arkham's too.

  • I don't care if this music is labeled as "Goth" or not. It's beautiful, has a feel of darkness in it, it's cool that way and I love it.

  • I´prefer this version!

  • This song is Black Planet

  • @cirezetroc

As I've stated dozens of times before, the song is "Dance on Glass", which has the tune of "Black Planet" but the words of "Dance on Glass" :p

  • @DarkLord61636 But it's "Black Planet", don't you know that song?

  • @GeorgeSorass

    -_-

haha yes I know that song, at this point I don't know if I'm being trolled or what. This song is not Black Planet, because it is Dance on Glass. The tunes are the same, the words are different, and they both eventually evolved into their own songs. I'm not sure how many other ways I can say the same thing :p

  • @DarkLord61636 Yes that's right, Black Planet starts off "On A Dark Desert Highway, Cool Wind In My Hair", you know "Black Planet", it's off of the album "Darkside Of The Moon".

  • @DarkLord61636 haha i lol'd

  • @DarkLord61636

Do you know the reason why these song use the same melody?

  • @nantarg To know the reason why, you'd have to hear it from the person(s) who made the decision to do so. Everyone else could only speculate with interpretation. Ideally there would be enough material to follow the narrative. I think the way the word "love" is used finds its foundation in the song 'Fix'. I think it should be explained for others to understand just like L.Cohen explained what was behind his 'Ten More Songs' album. I just think misunderstandings have dangerous potential.

  • @DarkLord61636 meh, i bet they just put two lyrics on one music composition xD

  • @DarkLord61636 Just call it pure SoM awesomeness.

  • @DarkLord61636

Lol, u get trolled by George Soros :P

Not many ppl can say that

  • @dreadherb fakin fak you saka

  • hugs from brazil and special thanks to dark lord .

  • i dont think there is any song i dont like by the sisters of mercy

  • black planet``s music & dance on glass`s vovcal

    wayne hussey`s vocals

  • muito bom !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this music, and "The sisters of mercy", thank for this video.

  • CHE BRAVI I SISTERS: OTTIMI A BARCELONA, 1991!

IL DARK E' LA CHIAVE INTERPRETATIVA DEGLI ANNI 80 - 90.

    THAT'S THE WAY!

SISTERS OF MERCY, MR ARNAUNA LOVES YOU!

  • Not a goth band?! You aren't fooling anyone Eldritch.

  • @nrviolette I agree, Eldritch created a Goth band and then pretends years later that he had nothing to with the genre. Andrew, a little hint, after Bauhaus broke up in 83' and your band was top on the alternative charts in 1985, you WERE THE GOTH GENRE and still are today!!! No matter how many times he tries to pretend otherwise, he and his band are one of the many reasons that Goth is the longest running subculture around and is still alive today, though not as vibrant as it used to be.

  • @djargus Nonsance.. The sisters were never goth regardless what you silly 'Goths' like to believe. I do wish you would keep your grubby mits on your own bands.. lol we need to re claim theses great bands fro the goth bin,

  • @MephProduction I'd like to find out what genre you ascribe them to, for them to be "reclaimed" back to that genre in your eyes. I just think you should just replace the first p on your name with a t, to be able to be more honest with yourself and others on what you're smoking when you say Sisters of Mercy isn't a Goth band.

  • @djargus There not a goth band and never were, never will be. For a start 'goth' has nothing to do with music, it's not a genre or a style it's a type of fashion. The sisters are and have always been a rock band, we used to describe them as alternative which they were. Much like Andrew the real sisters fans don't want an association with you darklins. Worth noting those darklines are far and few between at gigs nowadays.. perhaps they got the message. lol

  • @MephProduction Goth has everything to do with music. Goth started out in 78' with a band called Bauhaus and a tongue-in-cheek song called 'Bella Lugosi's Dead.' No one when the scene started out spontaneously said, "Lets dress up in leather military steel toed boots and Victorian garb and listen to this band whom we might enjoy." The music came first, the fashion came afterward. I laugh when you say they're an "alternative" band, meaning alternative to the mainstream, which is what Goth is!

  • @djargus Well The Damned were labeled 'goth' and this was back in 75, when in reality they were just a punk band. Goth isn't an alternative it's very much part of the mainstream (here on the uk anyway) it's one of the most popular selling 'brands' theses days, it still has nothing to do with music. Goths might listen to the sisters but that doesn't make the sisters goths. Most of this goth nonsense was born out the back end of punk..

  • @djargus try telling Andrew the Sisters are a goth band! Goth was just a catch-phrase in the 80's until it became a scene some ten years later. It's just rock n roll.

  • @djargus Goth had very little to do with music, indeed. It was just a fashion, a style, at first. Bauhaus were not goth, nor were Joy Division or Siouxsie or Killing Joke. But then came the second wave. These bands were less spontaneous, they were actually just copying the acts that had started it all, mimicking and exxagerating their looks, and they turned goth into a musical genre.

  • @djargus I think Joy Division has a better claim on the title first Goth band, 1976. The band's dark and gloomy sound, which Martin Hannett described in 1979 as "dancing music with Gothic overtones", presaged the gothic rock genre. While the term "gothic" originally described a "doomy atmosphere" in music of the late 1970s, the term was soon applied to specific bands like Bauhaus that followed in Joy Division's wake.

  • is it the lyrics or the rhythem that makes the song? For me it's the lyrics... the words are dance on glass, not black planet... Sort of silly for Wayne to have titled a BP... But then again.. This is Wayne we are talking about..

  • Awesome upload, can you upload an mp3 version of this please? :)

I will be eternal grateful, and so will tons of other TSOM fans.

  • This is black planet, not dance on glass...

  • @randomn It has other lyrics, sang by Wayne Hussey, not Andrew Eldritch.

But it is on an early version of Black Planet, yes.

  • Kudos to Wayne for writing this song, but I most definitely prefer this version over the one performed by the Mission.

  • Great upload! Masterpiece!!!!

  • Macchè Dance On Glass, questa è Black Planet...

  • @Willydark67 In realtà no... e' una versione precedente.

  • catchy

  • reminds me the music of Black Planet a bit

  • Vives en el DF?

Habría manera de que pudiéramos intercambiar algunas de estas canciones personalmente?

Aunque no sé si lo que sho tenga te sea de interés...

  • love this

  • Black Planet !

  • Wow... is it "Black Planet"'s music with other lyrics ? ...cool ^^, and thanxxxx

  • thrill

  • Музыка охрененная.

  • wow.. obviously before black planet came in to existence! never heard this 1 before...

  • this is black planet basically

  • dance on life, dance on glass. so great!

  • Both Wayne Hussey and Gary Marx have said that because they had to wait so long for Eldritch to put lyrics to any of the tunes they had written, they ended up writting there own lyrics. Songs that eventually went on to be released by Ghost Dance and The Mission, were initially written during the FALAA session.

  • black planet ?

  • fuck poetry? I'm a poet...and poetry is the lyrics....but I'm not here to argue just to listen to this great music :D

  • "Tarnish, taint, and punish me softly

Hold out the heat and burning skin

Screaming in the darkness torn and ragged

For the love of god, my dreams look dim

A whisper and a promise lit on fire

Kiss the hands where the angels dread

Love is the corpse that draws on dreams

Rips them apart and tears them to shreds"

    *dies* amazing lyrics

  • Great upload, if you could provide me with a mp3 of this, i'd be really happy.

Man, can't wait till august, then i'm going to see them live. :)

  • Wayne singing this one. But Andrew voice singing Black Planet is better.

  • Its Wayne singing... its the words to what would be a mission song "Dance on Glass" but at the time was waynes take on what ended up being Black Planet. The music was actually writen by Craig Adams like lot of FL&A

  • Early version of Black Planet music wise but different lyrics. Top song either way.

  • jonesjarvie ..your right..

  • Yeah!!

This opinon sinthetizes many things from the guys who think's that the Wayne is the "Fail man".

The Mission was powerfull,SoM too....each one of they manners. ^^

  • all these arguments on black planet......i don't even know what that IS. there i said it. I just like the music. let's leave it at that. you ALL are know-it-all show offs. I am willing to admit i know NOTHING about this stuff, but am willing to learn

  • black planet

  • This video clip is taken from two songs - the melody is "Black planet & the song is "Dance on glass". Interesting ´cos there is many songs you can perform a song with different lyrics.

  • Original promo...b4 it was black Planet you know-it-all.

  • Strange ´cos The Misson made Dance on glass in ´86 on their first album and if you found that rare song on a bootleg it´s the only place to find it and it´s not in every country you can find the rare obscurities. I´m glad you did.

  • Surely they were in the Sisters of Mercy prior to being The Mission...Black Planet was released in 1984! Eldritch was ot pleased with Hussey's lyrics and therefore changed them to what became Black Planet...Dance on Glass are therefore the unused original lyrics of the renamed Black Planet.

  • total perfection!sisters rule!

  • Muito boa versão!!

    Parabéns e obrigado!

    Hugs from Brazil!

  • Okay: this is the demo version of Dance with Hussey on vocals and backing music (not played live) from Black Planet in December of 1985 before Serpents Kiss was given to The Tube for broadcast.

  • Sí es Wayne, gracias por la versión

  • De nada ;)

  • <33

  • tambien parece the mission

  • Si, es Wayne Hussey..inconfundible esa voz.

  • excellent

  • Is this the same as black planet?

  • yep

  • Ive not collected any sisters bootlegs for a good few years know but we had one of those "Lets makesome more room by thining out the records" moment, any how after i had been stoped triing to bin the wifes morrisey collection (nearly),the amount of S.O.M bootlegs i had quite frankly I shit myself.noiseovshadow

  • I'm so used to black planet so it's wierd hearing different lyrics, but it's strangely enticing. This version that is.

  • Got a version of this called "red skies disappear" to the tune of" No time to cry",interesting, B side is the isramental of Marian even more interesting...Sisters bootlegs don't ya just love em,lets talk?noiseovshadow

  • Yeah SoM bootlegs are kind of fun.

Just when you think you know a song completely you find a bootleg version that changes the whole thin for you XD.

  • naja so tief ist die stimme zwar nidd aber denoch einfach weltklasse...ein meilenstein in der geschichte des gothic Rocks.... \m/ amphetamin logic

  • Geiler Sound. Nur "Black Planet" ist das Original.

  • Right. They've done the same with another rare, "Marian", is anotther version of Marian with a letter which has nothing to do with Marian version and the original sound is The first and last and always.

    Salut,

    Morgana

  • Ich liebe den Style von sisters einfach , die tiefe stimme ist der hammer, schade das die damalige hoch-zeit vorbei ist...

  • gr8 track ~ isn't that Wayne singing tho?

  • Yes its wayne. Christ, I haven't heard this for 20 years. There was a demo tape floating around, that Wayne lent to someone I know, which ended up getting copied against his wishes. There were another couple of weird songs on it too. I think Eldrtich singing a Mission song or something like that.

  • Not 100% sure,

but you may be referring to the Sisters of Mercy instrumental cover of "Serpent's Kiss" or maybe Eldritch singing "Garden of Delight"...

They are both on my page, either way

    =D

  • There was a 7" bootleg named "Victims of the circumstances". Tracklist (when I remember it right!) was: Dance on glass (Hussey on vocals), Fix (Adams on vocals), Garden of delight (Eldritch on vocals) and Red skies dissapear (Hussey on vocals, Music from Black Planet with different lyrics)... Jesus loves the sisters...

  • That started as a cassette which got copied and bootlegged

  • My favorite !!!!!

    Better than "Black Planet".

    Far more morbid ;)

  • !? i dunno.... i like black planet a lottttttt but this is pretty good too.

  • I agree with you !!

  • My favorite !!!!! :)

    Better than "Black Planet".

    Far more morbid ;) !

  • "Run around in the radiation

Run around in the acid rain..."

Um, no. Not more morbid. I like it, but "Black Planet" is a classic.

  • "Chanting strangers, blood on their cheeks.

Haunt my dreams all covered in blood"

Come on, it's at least just as morbid.

  • no it's not. the one is lovecraftian horror which works beacause of it's subtility. the other is cheap low budget gore horror which only works if interpreted as comedy. i totaly agree with andrew on wayne as a songwriter. he's a great guitarist but he's no poet

  • Lovecraftian horror? Really? Have you read Lovecraft? I'd like to know how you relate radiation and acid rain to Lovecraft. Poe was a poet... not a songwriter. Wayne is a songwriter, not a poet. He doesn't fail at writin' poetry, he just makes songs.

  • i was referring to style and atmosphere not the content of the lyrics. and lyrics to a song are form poetry, which has many branches. andrews song are great poetry, wayne's are an excuse to sing about fucking in cheap metaphores, in forced archaïc english and cheap end-rhyme. as far as 80's gothic lyrics go wayne hussey is the absolute bottom of the barrel

  • If you mean structurally, then there are very few songs that are truly poetry. To be honest, none of Eldritch's songs come to mind. But if you mean written to incite this image then Wayne's songs are just as poetic as Eldritch's. The only difference, as you mentioned, is their style/atmosphere. Wayne may have a different way to send his message, but that doesn't mean it's any less valid. Either way, fuck poetry. This is a good SONG. We're arguin' 'bout two different things.

  • I'm going to say that for the most part, I'm with PunkRockerJohnny, although I agree that music can be a form of poetry. Poetry is a form of writing meant to express feelings, music can be used in the same way. I see Eldritch as a better singer/song writer, but that is not to say that The Mission doesn't have its own hits [Severina, Wasteland, Dance on Glass, Blood Brothers, Serpents Kiss, etc.] Wayne tried to "move on" with his music, which [IMO] is what made their later works rather dull...

  • I would have to disagree with you, songwriting is very difficult, and being able to write good, meaningful lyrics makes anyone a poet in my book. Wayne doesn't write bad lyrics, but Uncle Andy's are wayyyyy better. I think Andrew mostly didn't like Wayne's lyrics due to Wayne's compulsive use of fantastic imagery

  • @PunkRockerJohnny what about TORCH? I always considered that song to be the most poetic lyrically that Andrew ever wrote.. and one of my top faves.. just thought id mention that one.. }:?)>

  • that picture of Eldritch looks like he wants "One MILLION DOLLARS !" quoting Dr. evil from austin powers, and Vision Thing lyric. "what does it take to make us come alive..." you know. ;0)

  • @dutchovenbakery guess who came first.

  • It is really beuatifull where can i find this song

  • I like this better than "Black Planet" sorta'.

  • i really like this song. whats it about? and are they still around btw?

  • wayne hussey's voice...

  • Eldrich should have like combined this with black planet... that whould have been so awesome...Like do the black planet lyrics first, then sing this...

  • Can someone help me find some bootlegs?

I found Some boys wander, and Rare obscurities. That all...

  • This is so much better than both Black planet, AND the Mission version.

  • this version kicks some ass!!

  • Makes you appreciate what a great lyricist Eldritch was.

  • Accept andrew did not write the lyrics for Dance on glass, Wayne Hussey did. Andrew collaberated for the MUSIC for Black Planet, which is the music to this. Wayne Hussey wrote the music and lyrics to Dance on Glass and Garden of Delight. Just ask Spiggy himself.

  • rare

    lyric dance on glass

    music black planet

    husseys vocals

  • umm....black planet?

and i didnt think id ever meet someone that liked andrew as much as i !

  • Look no further,

    I idolize Andrew

    lol

  • Yes,

    he idolizes me.

    :p

  • Wo, I have never heard this before...I keep waiting for him to start the lyrics for Black Planet. Interesting version but I am glad they chnged it out.

  • The lyric of "dance on glass" from the mission on "Black planet" of the sisters of mercy sung by Wayne Hussey...really a strange mix coming out!
