Oh all the new shitty final fantasy's.... I have to admit Balthier is a jewel of a character. I mean talk about awesome. He's right up there standing on equal ground with characters like Cecil and Kain-- and as a real old school FF fan, I don't place many characters on that high of a pedistal! Not even Cloud does it for me (though I don't think he's a good character anyway.)

But Balthier. I wouldn't care what FF he was in or even if it made sense, he's just instant WIN.

I played all of the Final Fantasy games since Part 1 for the NES console and found XII to be, not only the worst of all the single player titles (MMORPG's not included), but the only game I thought was terrible. Every other game in my opinion was fantastic.

The only Final Fantasy games I haven't played are the MMORPG's and the ridiculous amount of spin-off Tactics for the Gameboy advanced,etc.

Different tastes I suppose.

As for Final Fantasy 14, I already told you, I don't include MMO's. MMO's are essentially for losers with a bit too much free time on their hands. Redundant, recycled bullshit. Essentially no difference in goal to playing one MMORPG over another. You played one, you played them all. At least with single player you get a story.

As for FFXV, My research is from XIII era. Don't plan to play future FF games anymore, lost interest, so don't bother with future research. It's still a sinking ship

He sugar coated a lot of the bullshit, but ultimately if you read between the lines. His reasons were clear. RPG's are dieing out. They are trying to cater to a new, more fickle generation. FFXII was such a flop game and they had such horrible sales that once they had finished making that game, they had already said XIII was going to be the last they would make. They couldn't afford to keep making flop games. XIII was the second flop game. Pretty much anything after X was a failure probably because of the merger with enix, which happened after FFX. Did you know only months after FFXII's release they dropped price to $20?

@Squall7766 Yeah, but those figures are only for the more recent current gen games. Starting from FF7 on PS1 all the way to Xbox 360/PS3. Final Fantasy was only really starting to gain popularity after they made VI for the SNES and took notice only after they made IV.

Actually, because it was a multi-platform FFXII actually did worse than FFXIII. I think you're only going by the sales numbers for Playstation 3, which is 2.89 million. FF9 and FF12 are the worst games,not including spin-offs.

Nothing impressive. Oh wow they had British accents. It's a matter of opinion, you're British and hold a biased. I prefer Americanized or Japanese accents. See? Voice acting was nothing, Graphics? Everything else was so uninspiring and bland. I'm glad you're one of the few vets who also realize "seamless battles" to be nothing more than some kind of new fad. RPG's used to be synonymous with random battles.

Just like "open world" used to be synonymous with RPG's. You can see FFXIII linearity is starting to change that.

@Squall7766 VA is FF12 was great. Almost like a Shakespeare play and filled with metaphors and poetry. It was not just FFX with British accents. Graphics and art direction are some of the best on PS2 and the fact you can move the camera means they're WAY better than FF10 as it had fixed camera so it could cut corners with graphics. Seamless battles are the future of JRPGs. Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of FF, even says random battles are outdated as his latest game The Last Story don't have them.

It's also the only game to make the highly regarded Japanese list "Top 100 New Japanese Styles", a list that praises new innovations. So with that taken into account, Square Enix are well aware it's an amazing game. Also, story does make a video game; gameplay does. FF12 has the best gameplay in the series and an open world to explore. The world was vast and fantasy-like with stunning detailed art.

First they changed the traditional turn-based style with XII into that crappy real time bullshit with the neon spaghetti strings and delayed hits. Looked like a stupid fucking MMORPG. After, they made XIII, and took away the open-world aspect. Next, they'll probably remove the leveling system. After they remove the leveling, it's no longer an RPG.

Well... It should be noted that while I found XIII to be quite linear, I thought the storyline and characters were actually pretty good.  Maybe not "Fantastic", but definitely good. Anything from Final Fantasy X and lower was "Fantastic".

Games nowadays seems to be nothing more than eye candy whoring out graphics in place of any decent character or story. The boring politics in FFXII and uncharismatic characters made the game bland. The only thing I thought good about it was "open world".

@DefineDeath090 In the story Balthier actually comes from the past, he traveled forward in time accidentally to appear in this game (Tactics take place long after XII when much of the technology has been forgotten, hence the finding of buried guns and airships in archeological digs)...and no you dont get him instead of mustadio, he, like Cloud and Reis and Beowulf and Worker 8 are all hidden characters that you have to do specific things to get them to join your party.

@ShadowTheHolyKnight in Chapter 4 go to the bar in Gollund and listen to the "Rash of Thefts" rumor, then to Dorter and "Call of the Guards". When you try to leave Dorter after hearing the rumor you will start a a battle...if you win, Balthier will join you.

I didn't even give him a gun. He can use Knightswords as a Skypirate, why not make use of it?

I pumped his brave up and gave him the Excalibur and a nice shield. Coupled with his naturally high speed, and the Reflexes ability, he becomes untouchable. He runs circles around enemies, dodging everything and Barraging for 1k dmg, or stealing hearts if need be. I also gave him the jump ability which is based on speed for landing time, so that he has a ranged attack.

Balthier Is just like Mustadio, except with several extra abilities bashed into him. His "Plunder" abilities work just like "Steal", except the steal percentage is always 10% higher. For example, if the Steal percentage at that particular time was 50%, Balthier's Plunder would have a percentage of 60. Also,his "Barrage" ability stikes 4x at 1/2 his regular damage, ultimately doing 2x damage. Cool, huh?

nooo i dont know about revenant wings but in ff12 on ps2 its true, their less skilled with the weapons they are shown to prefer than the rest of your team is... it seems crazy i know :S its something to do with their animations taking longer and attack power being the same as team members who's animations are faster so they can shoot faster...

havent finished it yet :/ i dont get anough time to play my ps2, i have about 24 gameplay hours and im bout lvl 32 with my main lineup lol... im noob :D

Wow, that's good you know! When i finished, vaan, balthier, and fran were in the level 40's, and ashe, penelo, and basch were in the level 30's! I don't have 24hrs, because of STUPID SCHOOL! I'd have 24hrs if i got the chance though....lol Where are you at on it then?

wow i didn't know that (about fran, balthier, and their gun/bow). right now i have fran on bow and well, once in a while she misses. but she's way stronger than the rest of my characters though.... i dunno.

yeah, once in a while, fran missed with me too, but, I had her on bow for the entire game, I thought she was great with it too! XD! How are you doing on ff12 then?

i'm not doing so good. i'm stuck on that underground cave palace after defeating the mandragoras because i'm low-leveled (i'm so lucky in having been able to beat the bosses with my low levels and crap equipment) i need a way to level up fast because i get tired of killing monsters for hours just to go up a couple of levels.

Sorry, but the only way I was able to level up was killin those monsters too! I got stuck for a week, then I leveled up for a while, and, gradually, I managed to get out! XD, but this is just my way of doing it, you can try a different tactic if you want! =] I couldn't level up fast, unfortunatly..... =[

i'm going to try that negalmur of something auto-leveling tactic, see if it works.

their attack power with bows and guns should be the same as the other characters roughly... if you have other characters on bow or gun the whole game it should turn out the others are a margine faster with ther animations...

i tried. it took me a while to get it right but if you set up people with the same bow/gun as Fran or Balthier, then pause sim in a fight and set them both to normal attacks.

i looks a bit like they start ther attacks at different times but its the animation times change. :)
