  • I just happened upon this because of some research I was doing. I can tell you exactly who penned the lyrics for this song, The first group to record this was (Tom) Darby and (Jimmy) Tarlton in 1927. Jimmy Tarlton was my Great-uncle born in Chesterfield Co., SC. One of the fathers of the blues. He is also the first to be recorded using a steel slide. Everyone else at the time was using glass.
