  • The problem with Co-op for many years is that it is not value for money. If you look around, they are even more expensive than Waitrose. As a kid, my Mum did all of her shopping at the Co-op because where we lived, it was the main store and it was a big one. Even she went off them in latter years although you can still get some real bargains at times. The worst thing about them is the fruit and veg. Saying that, Asda is as bad when it comes to fruit and veg - it last about 24 hours!

  • I wouldn't want to be invited around her house for supper....bacon, tomatoes and a shed load of teas and coffees..........!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cheaprst products after 6.30pm

  • @darkstar3x16

The eighties was known for bad hair, clothes and wallpaper but good music, tv and films!

  • @darkstar3x16 - have you never been to a Waitrose then?

and in theory being a co-opretive they should be much cheaper!

  • omg we had the same mugs

  • Our Co-op in is now an ethnic shop

  • one opened near holloway road north london a FEW DAYS AGO.

7pm on a saturday night theres 6 tills and only 2 of them open and q'd for 5 minutes.

this video is when tescos prices were reasonably fair

Tescos = piss takers of customers and prices

  • Our co-op turned into teso !!!

  • our crazy prices stores turned into tescos! lol

  • 92p for a lb of back bacon???? AMAZING!

  • Yeah I don't even shop at the Nailsworth store anymore.

  • I can't believe this was the standard of TV advertising in the year I was born.. a slideshow of family photos with voiceovers... honestly!!!

Tinned tomatoes..... for the "store cupboard"!!!!

  • western Canada has Co-op stores

  • So I watch this, think "yeah, those prices are sort of reasonable" and then I realise that this ad was made over 25 years ago. Yikes!

  • tea and coffee? lol ... thought she said she only drank tea...

  • you could get tinned tomatoes for 15p a can from lidle up to about 3 months ago and they were every bit as good as the "top priced" ones. After all tinned tomatoes are a generic product there is no need to pay for a "Brand".

Only problem is they went up to about 30p a can a few months ago!!!!!

Nice to see the old ad, as embarrassing as it is!

  • lol - I can get 100g of Nescafe for 99p NOW!

  • Yes, they went from shit to the countries 5th largest retailer with £5 Billion pounds worth of business per year! At least they are British and are winning. They are beating all other retailers with growth in sales (excluding new shops!) I suppose us British hate winners!

  • tomatoes 14p!i needed a bank loan when i bought some the other day.

  • Wow,Co-Op have become even more crap.

  • @ShadowHorse999 I used to work at my local Somerfield before it was turned into a Co-Op - a lot of my mates are still there, though, and even they says it's crap!

  • Pounds and ounces.

  • Cool

  • 'were the people who care' labbin...

  • I like it!

Like you, I was on tv when they did a documentary at my primary school in 83. Its always going to be a talking point, think of your 15 minutes of fame! Do you remember it at all?

  • Nope, don't remember it at all!! Apparently I kept crying! Ha ha.
