The problem with Co-op for many years is that it is not value for money. If you look around, they are even more expensive than Waitrose. As a kid, my Mum did all of her shopping at the Co-op because where we lived, it was the main store and it was a big one. Even she went off them in latter years although you can still get some real bargains at times. The worst thing about them is the fruit and veg. Saying that, Asda is as bad when it comes to fruit and veg - it last about 24 hours!
you could get tinned tomatoes for 15p a can from lidle up to about 3 months ago and they were every bit as good as the "top priced" ones. After all tinned tomatoes are a generic product there is no need to pay for a "Brand".
Only problem is they went up to about 30p a can a few months ago!!!!!
Nice to see the old ad, as embarrassing as it is!
Yes, they went from shit to the countries 5th largest retailer with £5 Billion pounds worth of business per year! At least they are British and are winning. They are beating all other retailers with growth in sales (excluding new shops!) I suppose us British hate winners!
@ShadowHorse999 I used to work at my local Somerfield before it was turned into a Co-Op - a lot of my mates are still there, though, and even they says it's crap!
Like you, I was on tv when they did a documentary at my primary school in 83. Its always going to be a talking point, think of your 15 minutes of fame! Do you remember it at all?
