  • Wasted time... just wanted to see what it was and how to play it but you just keep talking shit about YOU and you're techniques.. just go for the mainthing <.<

  • @Donnner93 His techniques work. Get off your high horse and try something that someone else says dude.

  • You should shut the fuck up and play..

  • @edbatsalot23 You need the theory to understand WHY this sounds good.

  • You know what would make this video better....

If you didn't talk shit for 4 minutes about how shit you are. For fucks sake!

Don't make the video if you aren't confident doing it.

  • LESS TALK MORE ROCK WHY DOES IT TAKE 10 MINUTES

  • treble too high? x|

  • are sweep arpeggios just chords with strings picked individually?

and how long did it take you to get that good at guitar?

  • @xonlyxthexreflection Basically yes, but they are fingered differently because if you just played a chord, it would sound messy. Anyway I've been playing for around 14 years.

  • @RedSGShredder so is some kind of technique on how to pick the strings, or do you just pick them randomly?

  • @xonlyxthexreflection Just what makes sense. It depends on the arpeggio. Down on the way down, and up on the way up.

  • One thing I've found that cuts down on the strings ringing out is to actually get heavier gauge strings like going from 9's to 10's or 10's to 11's.

  • my theory is different: learn all the necessary techniques first (sweep picking, tapping, pinch harmonics, string skipping, alternate picking) and then tap into music theory stuff.

  • alternate picking (very fast) is actually a lot harder than sweep picking...

  • @deraudman agreed dude, after getting down sweep picking, it is nothing compared to Gilbert's style of fast alternate picking.

  • haha...little to much talking but still awesome! thanks for these tips!!!!

  • Hey dude definatley calm down. Okay?

  • if i want to learn to play things fast.. do i just play it over and over and over and over and over? is there anything i can do to speed things up.. i mean.. im always stuck at 50-75% speed on COB tabs :(:(:(

  • @Reuben961 Basically, that is the way to do it. You just play it many times until you can play it faster. Just go up slowly. Don't just jump from 50% to 75%. Try going to 55%, then 60%, then 65%, etc.

  • @Reuben961 start slow, dont play fast until you can play the notes and rythms slowly

  • @Reuben961 It's called slow programming. Trust me, it works. You play as slowly as you need to, to be able to comfortably play the song flawlessly without even trying. And you keep playing that way over and over and over. It's gonna be boring and easy, but your brain is then programmed to doing it correctly, and after hours of repeating, you speed it up a little and try playing and you're like "noway i cant play at this speed". And you start playing it at that speed, easily and flawlessly.Brain.

  • @Reuben961 To learn to play fast, you must learn to play it slow

That's a quote from great shredder Michael Angelo Batio. The theory behind this is that if u learn it slow, then you will be used to picking it and you can gradually build up speed.

  • neck pickup sounds better for sweeping

  • U soooo fcking AWESOME ! !!!!!!!!

  • good stuff man i like it. i do alot of diminished sweeps mostly 3 string things. keep it up man i like it. feel free to give my vids a peek. you might like em judgeing from your other stff on here

  • Fuck you ! He kicks ass! Go Redsgshredder !!! \m/ :)

(MrGrizmint is a peace of shit)

  • lol i was obv having a bad morning

  • yea i think you are too.. lol this guy is cool though he knows his guitar. if you want a great sweep lesson check out skwisgarr's duncan hills coffee jingle solo masterpeice theatre video. thatll getcha goin

  • Your the fag

  • you're

  • oh my fucking god you did it again later in the video, fucking kill yourself christ

  • when you put your pick on your fretboard right away in the video, you look like the biggest douche ive ever seen.

  • Ill give you advise m8, how to be better on arpegios and in general! Ive notice from really long time when i used to watch your videos that your picking hand is always "angry"....thats why you pick strings individual. You really need to re-learn your picking hand m8:P

  • Good lesson.

  • you should really switch to the neck pick up. it helps getting rid of any unnecessary and it makes it sound a lot cleaner.

  • Hey man iv got a lesson for you =) I think you should purchase a VOX AD30VT amp. Iv got one, and i can get 30 times better tone with my little shitty squire strat. Iv got the same guitar as u aswell, the ibanez RG, and with that guitar and the vox amp, u can pretty much get perfect metal tone. YOu should check the amp out, its got heaps of presets and inbuilt fx aswell. Hope that helps =)

  • Good lesson i think 1 of my biggest problem's and with many people is, that there trying to play soo fast there not really getting anywhere fast So slow it right down to a speed that is soo slow it's savage trust me then when you feel it sound's and feel's 100% bump it up 5 bpm and start all over again and when i say feel's 100% i mean you can play with no problems then your 1 step closer to being a better guitarist for good hope this really help's people Godspeed
  • @bluearch5000 Nice. good tip.

  • Comment removed

  • dude you talk to much but its stilll a good lessson

  • Commmme ooon!Less talk and moore action! It goes to all of u that post a lesson...

  • thank you for the information^^5*****5^^

  • lol. i agree that is pretty bad sweeping. but it is very hard and requires allot of practice. i did learn about the minor and major things. i just knew they sounded different i didn't know what to call them.

  • 5/5. Thanks, video was helpful. Oh, and also, I'd like ask, is your edge 3 tremolo still withstanding tuning stability?

  • Great dude glad to hear that. Yeah the bridge is great so far and I've had the guitar for over a year now.

  • @RedSGShredder, Sweet! Looks like mine will hold up. Lot of people say the edge 3 craps out in 3 months er so. I think it's because they dont know how to maintain or poorly set up der edge 3 :P

  • Isnt that an Ibanez RG?? SG shredder??huh?

  • Yes. I own more than one guitar.

  • dang man, did you fall off the planet?

  • Heh no dude, I am still around. Just updating my website and getting my originals ready for release.

  • sloppeh

  • altitudes by jason becker is an awesome arpeggio song

  • @TheWhocares233 too bad of his condition

  • Yeah, i know it's horrible =( He was one of the greatest who ever lived. Hopefully he somehow gets healed.

  • F**k, i press 2 stars F**k Thats 5* video

  • This may be a stupid question, but do you always have your volume knob turned up all the way? I find that when I have mine up all of the way, my playing sounds sloppy from when I lift my hand up off of the strings, but when I turn it down a bit, it sounds better. If you don't turn it up all of the way, when DO you? Thanks.

  • Sure man that's not a stupid question. I always have my volume knob on my guitar turned up all the way. But do whatever works for you.

  • its all a matter of what kind of sound you want through your amp more than volume. for example if you turn the volume on your amp down and your guitar up you can pick up a lot more distortion

  • Mathcorey: Your problem is probably muting the strings, I'm sure there's a lesson on youtube if you search for it.

  • dude you go on wayyyyy to much but other than that your great

  • you suck! joke

  • Can anyone tell me whats up with these interval things? Where can i learn all the 3rds, 4ths 5ths, etc. of a scale?

  • Check out my other lesson about intervals and scales.

  • This is a fine lesson and all but I do take issue with your use of the term "diminshed scale". What you were playing is a diminished arpeggio, the diminished scale is different and consists of two diminished arpeggios played a half step apart, it's also known as either the whole-half or half-whole scale.

  • Good lesson man, very useful (at least to me), rock on!

  • The best advice really for me is just to practice, practice, practice....but even during practicing, sweeps are quite frustrating when your hand are trained wrong!

  • Nice job as usual Vafa!

  • hey man, im in lessons and im trying to make a good metal band. one of my inspirations is killswitch engage, and i was wondering if you could list some techniques they use if you know so i can ask my teacher about them if i already dont know. your a great guitarist and you got yourself another subscription! keep making kick ass videos! they help!

  • they use alot of hammer offs and hammer ons, pinch harmonics, legto slides, trem picking and more but i cant think of it i don't listen to killswtich much.

  • pull offs...

  • everyone is taught different. pull offs and hammer offs are the same thing.

  • sorry... sometimes Im a douche on youtube.

  • you weren't being a douche at all. no need to be sorry about learning something new :)

  • Enjoy your videos. You are a good player. The comment about sweep arpeggios being the most difficult technique is debatable...I would go as far as to say they are not the most difficult. Obviously very popular and require practice and skill. Watch some of the techniques executed by John Conti for example and you may agree that there is many difficult techniques. Again this is not meant to insult or demean your opinion or abilities...they are certainly superior to mine. Thanks

  • your tone hurts my ears. god its so terrible

  • it sounds like hes using a distortion with treble at 5 o clock with an eq pedal with all the treble boosted and scooped all lows, and his amp has no mids or lows just an extreme amount of treble

  • I turn up my bass, treble, and distortion all the way up, and my mids are at half. It sounds that way because of my camera.

  • less gain and treble will make your videos sound better... good lesson but work with eq and gain

  • No, it's the camera mic that is to blame. His tone is probably good, when you're actually there..

  • No, his tone is downloadable for the POD, it sounds pretty much the same in real life. Only more harsh in real life.

  • i agree

  • Ahhh jesus....Upstroke sweeps hurt my head.. =/

  • When you are doing the upstroke part of a sweep, do you hit the high E string (After just hitting it)?

For example, on your first sweep example, you have the three string sweep and then a hammer-on at the end, and then you go back up...do you hit the high E on the way up or skip it?

Hope that made sense...been wondering that for awhile.

  • I just do what feels natural. I guess I usually hit it.

  • Comment removed

  • nice lesson , but whats next now ? :P String skipping ?

  • Thanks dude. I am now working on writing material for my first original album.

  • Great lesson!!!

    also great playing.

  • i used to have this ibanez but im fuckin stupid with a floyd rose so i traded it for a vbt700

  • yeah, floyd roses are the devil. They can do cool things, but the amount o times i've spent an hour or two fixin my bloody ibanez... the things were clearly designed to A. Make cool sounds and B. give guitarists hernia's

  • Divine heresy sucks.

  • yeah please a Divine Heresy cover !! awesome lesson though!

  • Comment removed

  • FINALLLYYY!! Been waiting for this one. Thank you, dude!!

  • haha 3:41 in-virgins. now that's what im talkin about.

  • You haven't done any covers in a while. You should do some Divine Heresy.

  • your sweep picking technique is different than mine. You use a lot of right hand muting and don't focus on left hand muting. It's cool though, anyways your lesson always gives me more ideas and helps me quite a bit. So thanks a lot for the lesson.

  • dude i really like your videos your a waay experienced guitarist than me im sorta a beginner been playing for almost 8 months, i suckass compared to you, can you please check out my two latest videos creeping death solo, and the trooper solo covers by me and comment them to just give me feedbacks and stuff on what should i focus more and what im doing wrong. i'd really appreciate it man thanks :D

  • nice lesson, thanks man..I don't think there's a way to "teach" the actual clean sweeping, its all about practise ( I don't have to mute that much, and sweep without kinda picking notes and it still works out both ways). You showed some important scales, so that should definetely help out.

  • good lesson !

  • pause at 5:45

  • LOL

  • haha, thats funny as hell. he looks like kumar from the harold and kumar movies!

  • what other kumar is there

  • hahAHAhahaHAHahA how the hell did u find that.

  • neck pickup man, cmon. haha nah good lesson though man.

  • you talk too much about the disclaimer. No offence.

  • ever thought of cutting the distorsion down when vidding? it will really clean the sound up. unless of course, you like it as it is that is.

  • Heh yeah dude well I'm all done with lessons so it doesn't really matter any more.

  • One more Time. Thanks for the nice Tutorial Vafa. And BTW: The Sweep Arpeggios are realy hard, just look at Towards Dead End ;)

  • you little stupid cunt..you suck ass dickface bitch

  • u gonna be ok?

  • yeah man do some Divine Heresy covers.

  • but... i dont like divine heresy?

  • Great lesson! Your technique is certainly cleaner than mine.

  • thats pretty sad

  • I don't think so. I never attempted the technique until about a year ago, and I don't spend a lot of time practicing it. I can sprinkle it into my playing here and there, which is good enough for me at this point.

  • dude how the hell are you and this guy considered the best guitar players on youtube neither of you can sweep worth a damn and i haven't heard anything impressive from either of you and if your asking why i haven't posted vids its because ive spent my money on guitar stuff so i could be a better player not a youtube star

  • dumbass stfu at least this guy has the balls to post something in the first place

you can be the best player when your playing alone with no one ever seeing and can be the biggest douche and a fag the second anyone challenges your skills

    proof or you suck ass

  • We're considered to be the best? Funny, you won't hear either of us say that. Both of us do this as a hobby and we enjoy posting videos and helping other guitar players. Most people seem to appreciate that. It's obvious that some do not.

  • Hah you're selling yourself short man, I hear some nice arpeggios in The Arrival.

  • you laugh like the doctor on the simpsons :D. but nevertheless you're great

  • Finally... it's fuckin there.. great video dude!!!

  • I think you should have tabs for what you play/teach, who's with me?

  • Comment removed

  • he does listen to the first 30 seconds

  • He has tabs on his website.

  • Thanks, and yes as mentioned I have tabs for all my lessons on my own website. It's located in the description.

  • Ah, sorry about that. XD

  • Great teaching RedSGShredder.

  • Hey buddy about barring when sweeping - just roll your finger over it, it's a lot easier than actually having to move them (to me at least)

  • But it makes it sound all muddled and the notes collide so it's a really bad habit to roll your finger...

  • In my experience - not if you do it correctly

  • Dude this is awesome, you're doing a kickass job with these lessons, I'm enjoying them a bunch! what are you gonna do when you've done all the lessons you said you were gonna do?

  • Thanks man. I have done all the lessons I was planning on doing. Now I will focus on writing material for my solo album. So far I have about nine songs but a lot of them suck and some of them are unfinished. But my goal is to finish it all off by September or so. Don't quote me on that though!

  • Don't worry, I wont, but I'll definately get it when you're done.

  • Comment removed

  • tip for beginners: use the neck pickup when sweeping, it gives a cleaner sound

  • I disagree, it muffles it and makes it harder to hear so you can't work out where you're fucking up.

  • bla bla bla bla...

    first notes on 4:18

  • Pretty good dude :D

Yeah, arpeggios are a pain to nail...but it's when you get better at them, they sound beautiful to play : )

If there ARE some bad habits you've developed dude...well, yeah, it's your own way. One way to work at them is by individuals hands; I'm guessing from my POV it's your right hand that's overworking the arpeggios. Just practice with your right hand alone while sitting in front of the tv, and work on the sweep motions, then applying fingers along with it.

    Rock on!!

  • Hey Vafa, I know that you work very hard on these videos, but I believe I have a tip for you on how to make these lessons even better for those who watch: it would be great if you could include some sort of tabs using the annotations or a picture of the tab in a corner of the video. This will really help out, in my opinion. Keep on rockin' :D

  • i think these are in the link located in the Description of the video, correct me if i'm wrong

  • Thanks man I appreciate that. As mentioned, you can find tabs for all my lessons on my website. The link is in the description.

  • But what do you mean buy simple solos???

  • I guess just stuff that isn't too terribly technical.

  • But are there like any song in particular?

  • you should use your neck pick up for sweeps it defines the sweep so much better

  • yeah but i dont know anyone who switches to that in the middle of a song...if you use neck you can't do pinch harmonics

  • Yngwie Malsteem does it on a video here.

  • many people switch, and if you get bill lawrence pickups, hell yes you can pinch with the neck.

  • damn thats awesome then.i usually just stay in bridge anyways.maybe i should use neck for leads but i like the sound form the bridge usually.unless it's like wintersun stuff.beyond the dark sun sweep if you've heard it sounds terrible using the bridge

  • hahaha yeah,i play wintersun stuff alot and mainly use my neck pickup.

  • Yes you can, idiot.

You must poorly intonate your guitar.

  • There's no need for name-calling. It's not as easy to make pinch harmonics ring out clearly when you're using the neck pickup (compared to using bridge pickup). A lot of it has to do with the fact that the neck pickup is usually a lot further from the strings.

  • I agreeee,dude you're great at guitar.

  • You know I love you!

  • My two cents. I say use whichever pickup sounds right for what you are trying to accomplish. If you like the way it sounds, then use it. And yeah Yngwie and most great guitarists can switch between pickups quickly.

  • Cool, ive been waiting for a lesson on this. Thanks.

  • nice man!! you've got it down enough to teach. great lesson!

  • nice! i was really hoping that you mentioned malmsteen and you did!

    5/5!

  • GO VAFA!

  • About time it comes out.

  • Ahh Finally this one comes out!

    Good lesson.

  • haha first view and comment:D great video dude! very helpfull and helped me improved

  • Thank you for these lessons. They help alot :)
