  • The short bass riff at 6:59 . . . Short but sweet.

  • Yes! Good job, music good to us. I'm too an astral traveller, so thanks God, thanks ev'ry Yes' guys.

  • How bad it that! A shadow of what it was in the seventieth......bah !!

  • Ok, now I have seen yes with, without Rick, With Jon Without Jon, With Alan White, or With Bill, shit I have seen them with Alan and Bill and that one may have been in the round. (many moons ago). In small venues and Large stadiums. My point is, It is the music that grabbed us and never let go. Then we began to know the members whom without, these compositions would be non-existent. Let them rest they deserve it. A true fan will listen to yes because of yes!! I love them from my soul.

  • Saw them at Six Flags, Great Adventure on this tour, they were amazing! Steve Howe played guitar for Asia, then for Yes. That's right, this guitar God played both sets!

  • What a kick-ass video, Chris Squire is an absolute monster (no pun intended) when it comes to technique on the bass. His style is unparalleled along with his feeling and sense of rythm. He lays a proper foundation for the master technician Howe. But lets not forget Mr. WHite whose syncopation and rythm also create a masterful total arwork.

  • Why is he playing with a pick now? SO unnecessary, it sounds unnatural with the spacy sound of Yes and all prog rock

  • @TalonsOfFire -- who are you talking about? Chris has always played with a pick.

  • @brianjlevine He used to play fingerstyle and it sounded 10X better, it was like decades ago but he definitely didn't exclusively play picking. It's common knowledge with bass players that he switched

  • @TalonsOfFire - Chris will occassionally use his thumb (and he does incorporate the side of his thumb into his picking), But I've never seen Chris use his fingers. He is reknowned for his picking style. There are plenty of old Yes videos on Youtube, and they all show Chris using a pick. I've been a Yes fan since the early '70s. Are you sure you aren't confusing him with someone else?

  • @brianjlevine Well my bass teacher told me when he used to play fingerstyle it sounded so much better, then I saw a video interview with him and he talks about his new style of picking, but he might have meant literally a new style of picking, not starting picking alltogether. But I did a bunch of research yesterday, and I think you're right, he's always played with a pick. In Yes, anyway.

  • @TalonsOfFire Chris has pretty much alway splayed with a pick, dating back to The Selfs and The Syn, the bads he was in prior to Yes. Its what he is known for. I suspect that your bass teacher is thinking of Geddy Lee of Rush, who plays with his fingers, but gets a similar tone to Chris.

One of the real key's to Chris's sound is that he splits his signal to two amps, a lead amp with the treble boosted, and a bass amp with low bass tone. Sounds great.

  • @TalonsOfFire NOT common knowledge....simply not true. has always played with pick, with YES

  • @kennywowie This was settled a week ago look at the previous comments

  • Yes is always great WITH or WITHOUT, Jon and Rick, we're talking over 4 decades, musicians should have the right like anyone else to make changes. I feel sorry for fans who only like one version of the band, they have missed lots of good stuff. Much of the reasons for the absence of Jon and Rick have to do with health issues. You can't do a full blown tour when your health is in question.

  • @vinstrumentals Well said my friend. My brother, 13 years my senior, got me hooked when I was 5. He will tell you I could sing Yessongs before I could speak. Anyways, I agree. I have been blessed to see them 16 times or so, many lineups, all amazing!! Yes is yes because of the brilliance of John Rick and Steve and Chris!! If someone else plays the symphony Im still goin. Why? Its the music. " Acquiesce the thought."

  • un de mes préféré maurcau de YES .

  • Yes is like the Bethoveen, Chopin of the 20th century. Its music will be studied in conservatories and performed by many more generations to come.

  • Amazing. The skill of each band member then and now just blows me away every time

I hear it. Yes is truly a work of art!

  • I can't believe the way that singer sounds...truly a great replacement that is nearly identical to Anderson. It's sad not to see him perform, but the band still sounds really good. They are coming to town soon, better check it out. The music still blows me away; beautiful, abstract and intense. The dynamics and note structure are what make this band so unique.

  • my 3rd and final time to see this installment of Yes, my favorite band of all time....although this performance is very nice, Chris can say what he will about Jon, but Jon would have never settled for such a watered down tour....where are the epics?

  • chris squire is really moving those old hips

  • No Yes like the Classic Yes, all right. But, over a band, Yes could also be regarded as a state of mind. In spite of recent changes, I'm glad to feel here the same spirit as ever. With renewals as smart as these ones, the band could overpass generations and last for many years... or, why not, forever ?... That would definitely be YES.

  • YES´ music is eternal and sovereign!!!

  • Benoit is alright, but he's not Jon. Kinda flat in a good portion of the beginning, and one thing about Jon Anderson I've noticed, his voice may have weakened a bit with age, but his pitch has remained pretty spot on.

  • still great aren't they? but I miss Jon so!

its an old marriage you know... the five of them and the millions of us.

What ever it winds up being in the end... YES music has been so good for me.

Thank you YES (and all of you fans too)

  • Hell NOOOOO! This guy just doesnt have the pipes like Jon, and its all out of tune and off tempo. What a shame! Oliver needs to go back for more lessons from Dad!

  • I have followed yes from the beginning. I have seen them well over 20 times, in every incarnation. I have learned to enjoy each one because I know they will always return to their original members at some point in time. They are sometimes only great, but most of the time they transform you into another world that only they can do. So just enjoy. Jon and Rick will be back.

  • Even this washed up, elderly version of Yes without Jon Anderson is better than 90% of what is being presented as "music" today. This material is still amazing even after all these years.

  • Can't believe I missed this show!

  • You'll probably never hear a Rickenbacker and A Gibson sound much better no matter who is playing them!!

  • I saw them yesterday in my city. All I can say, is that they gratefully surprised me. Besides, they sound incredibly good. Oliver is worthy heir of his father; I saw them both some years ago.

  • All the years i've been familar with this song, i only just noticed the 8:26 vocal melody is borrowed from Prokofiev

  • @pzolsky

    sorry, i meant gustav holst

  • Nice!!! I enjoyed that! Benoit has a really nice voice..i know the Jon die hard fans are hard on benoit, but I respect the guy..he's living his dream!!! GOOD FOR HIM!

  • Yes, they're old

  • Benoit does have a wonderful voice, but when the original is alive, kicking and ready to play, it just isn't the same. I've been going to Yes shows since the 70s, but I'm skipping this edition.

  • First show I ever went to. It was fucking amazing, Chris is just wonderful. Benoit is wonderful, this whole band is just wonderful!

  • Love the industrial bass, epic boards, soaring vocals, crashing power cords and intricate solos. Mozart meets rock. Beauty.

  • Sorta alright, kinda. Not necessary to do Jon Anderson clone voice. Just someone to sing the lyrics and make the song have power. Maybe Ian Anderson? Bwahahaha! Ian could do it. And put some odd twists into it as well. ;-)

  • Great intro. Monster playing all around.

(Not crazy about Mr. David's singing however. Even when I try not to compare him to Jon I still can't quite enjoy it.)

  • If it wasn't for Jon Anderson's illness, this past winter he WOULD of been with YES this tour.... There was no band dispute, and Rick Wakeman already said he wanted to hang up the World Wide Tour that "YES" wanted to embark on or any World Wide Tour,in a interview on BBC he said when the band comes back to Europe he would play on a few selected shows if they wanted him to.So his son Oliver said "well if Dad doesn't want to tour " He'd be MORE than happy to take his stead...

  • @MrKingmace

Actually Jon was sick during the summer of 08 ', with several different issues!!

Jon has been well enough to tour since april of 09'! HE stated over and over he was ready to return but chris and steve said no.

They have said no even to the point of not recording with JON on the new "yes" album!!

Jon has moved on!! He is touring now, about 3 shows a week, he and Rick have their 360 tour this fall, and a new album.

JON COULD BE WITH YES, CHRIS AND STEVE JUST DO NOT WANT HIM!!!

  • I hope Chris Squire lives forever. Best electric bass player to ever pick up the instrument.

  • whatever they say there is no comparison between benoit and jon

  • The Yes without the presence of Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman to me is not the same, they should settle their differences and work together again, age has arrived and time is running out ... Again with Jon and Rick please ...

(I follow the career of Yes since 1971)

  • @rogerluciano1

JUST TO LET A TRUE YES FAN KNOW, IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY.

JON AND RICK ARE RECORDING AN ALBUM, AND A DVD OF THEIR 360 TOUR!

JON AND TREVOR HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT SOME SHOWS IN 2011!!!

JON, RICK AND TREVOR AND A 4TH EX-YESMAN, ..."BILL?", HAVE BEEN TALKING AS WELL.

HOWE AND SQUIRE HAVE REALLY SCREWED THEMSELEVES THIS TIME.

THIS IS NOT THE DRAMA PERIOD!

STEVE SAID JON WILL NOT BE ON THE NEW ALBUM. JON IS BAGGAGE, JON IS OLD, ETC...

    DICK

    JON ANDERSON IS YES, WITHOUT...NO!!!

  • @RICHARDTRICHMOND Which Trevor?

  • @JackBlair2

    THE, TREVOR RABIN!!!!!

  • @RICHARDTRICHMOND Yeah, I know, I'm just kidding.

But there's a big difference between Rabin (guitar wanker) and TREVOR HORNE, who is a bloody musical genius.

  • @RICHARDTRICHMOND Which Trevor? Yes may just be the only band to ever have two guys named Trevor in it...

  • @rogerluciano1 I dunno ... I've seen some recordings from Jon after his illness and, frankly ... he has some issues. maybe just some bad recordings, I don't know ... but his breathing seemed pretty strained (did not seem to be his voice per se as much as his ability to hold, carry and transition between notes). Listening was hard and I skipped out of the video. I luv the guy, don't get me wrong, but BD sounds pretty darn good for following a guy as incredibly unique as our beloved Jon.

  • @rogerluciano1 Good call there Roger. It is not trully Yes unless it is the original configuration. Nothing like them!

  • @rogerluciano1 I believe Jon's problems are related to health as he has severe Asthma. The latest prognosis is he will never be able to sing or tour again which is indeed some of the saddest news I have heard.

  • @egcroan What are you talking about? He's performing down the road from me in August.

  • @CityslickCaptain I believe in all fairness to Jon Anderson he hasn't fully recovered as has been commented on by many seeing his since his forced retirement by Acute Respiratory Distress (COPD or Asthma), and this probably was significant in getting someone to underwrite a tour. The underwriter has significant risk if dates get cancelled as the promoters want their money they spent in promoting the cancelled show. I think it is unfortunate this is about money, but it is.

  • @rogerluciano1 I've been a fan of theirs ever since I first heard "It's Your Move/All Good People" on my local AM station I believe it was 1971! I was in a choir then (long before my voice changed and I smoked cigaretttes, but I digress) and I was struck by the singer's voice! Absolutely phenominal how far we all have came! Peace G.

  • This is vintage YES indeed, but without the other 2; it justs leaves a sad pang in the heart. Jon and Rick just being on stage makes the event bigger. Having said that, nice job lads in filling the 'huge' shoes' !

  • Benoit does just fine - a great all round performance.

  • Excellent Camera Work ! thanks for posting this awesome performance.

  • I am also upset that Jon along with Rick are not a part of yes anymore...but you have to think of the key of the singing and how old Jon is...he just can't hit the notes anymore...i thought it was a good decision on jon's part because i would rather hear a voice simular to Jon's, rather than having Jon up there sonding like he's a 5th grade choir mamber....as for Rick...i'm not exactly sure why he's not performing anymore.

  • @CDB1997 So wrong about Jon's voice. He can still hit the notes. The reason he is not in the band cause he was ill with respiratory problems, he is fine now . He is doing solo stuff now. Rick was ill too, not sure whith what at the time, but now has a tv show in england and has a new band.

  • @thor19b i was just saying what i heard...

  • @thor19b Again it's about being really healthy to do a Tour, and it's really much easier to get someone to book a couple of club dates than a national tour. Music is art, but only a tour that can make money will be booked.

  • @CDB1997 Just go find his solo tour on here from last year

  • Thought it was Jon till I read the comments. Amazing

  • I was there! Amazing concert.

  • Me likey :)

  • Benoit David sounded solid as hell on here. But he's not Jon Anderson, and it's not quite the same without Jon.

  • God he sounds almost identical to Anderson. Wow.

  • Benoit David is awesome

  • Finally Chris had a chance to take center stage, loser

  • que buena banda

  • Having said that, I have heard that Jon is not easy in the band, often dictating terms, songs etc. BUT I don;t know this for sure. In any case he has publicly stated that he is letting it all go, is ok with what they are doing. And this lineup live was auwesome. Also the previews of the next MYSTERY album with Benoit give chills. IF they record with this lineup, the vocals WILL astound you.

  • I find it so interesting how people post stuff about the various personalities of the YES members, past and present. Unless you actually KNOW them, I would think you might want to at least tag with IMO or something.

  • awful, like some tacky tribute band. No Jon Anderson no Yes.

  • @ChrisG40UK This isn't as good as various past incarnations of Yes, but I've watched every tribute band version on You Tube and none of them at their best are as good as this. Not even close, and I'm taking into account more than Benoit David. There's a heck of a lot more to this tune than just the vocals.

  • I like the video screens with the YES logo. BEst logo in rock ever! I'll see Jon sing solo this April in NYC.

  • this song is NOTHING without bruford

  • I love Jon and he deserves unmeasurable respect for his work with Yes over the years, but Benoit has a BEAUTIFUL voice, even more pure and clean than Jon's, and really does the songs justice. It's a shame that Jon can't be on the tour because of his health, but honestly, with Jon's voice getting slightly worn sounding, Beniot is more than welcome in my book, at least for a time, and definitely for as long as Jon isn't well enough to tour.

  • I saw Yes last night in Northhampton MA. The stage is the same. I am a huge Yes fan, and a keyboardist as well. I'm not Wakeman calibur but could play this stuff easily enough. My only complaint was that the keyboards were hidden in the mix

Jon Anderson once said that his desire was to have Yes go on long after they were all dead, and have new versions out as the years go by. He wanted the Yes dynasty to go on, but I don't see that happening since nobody cares about their new music...at ALL.

  • Agreed. I think Jon's is amazing and I respect him hugely, always have and always will. However, I am still greatly enjoying Benoit's performances on vocals. Yes did not cut any corners when looking for a new singer, that's for sure. Of course, I still hope Jon comes back though, as his writing will be missed. I'm wondering if the band's enjoying the benefit of having Jon's voice while not having to count him during a band vote. Hmmm.

  • I would like to see Yes with Neil Peart on drums, Trevor on lead guitar, Chris on bass, Tony Kay or Rick Wakeman on keys and of course Jon singing, maybe if he could get along Steve sharing guitar work with Trevor, as Trevor is good on keys also..also there a couple of other keys players that are on the sidelines, Tom and Patrick......I have no use for Billy Sherwood, he played in the background during the Talk tour, finally got in the band and then left....

  • the trouble with Yes is Jon, he is a great singer and is the voice of Yes, but he has a personality problem and is stuck on HIS WAYS, if they do not agree with him, then he is gone...he has others, Steve is right with him...they leave when ever they want...spoiled rotten, by the others

  • no one will ever replace jon anderson, but benoit is a suitable replacement.

  • I was at this concert. It was ok when I had my eyes closed, but with eyes wide open it was not my YES.

  • i hate to say this but alans drumming is so half ass

  • This replacement singer sounds great, but he looks a bit like he would be in the cast of "Up With People."

  • This is not YES !!!! THIS IS LAME !!!

  • Maxshadows i agree you 100 % YES WITHOUT JON IS NOT YES That´s it. No more talking JON IS THE VOICE FROM YES.

  • @bigua1428 Sorry, but that's your opinion. For me, Yes includes the Drama material, which Jon refuses to sing. So, Yes is anywhere Squire and Howe and an appropriate singer comes together. Trevor Horn would be fine with me, too, but Benoit David is EXCELLENT. Cheers.

  • YES WITHOUT JON ANDERSON´S VOICE IS NOT YES ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

    Regards.

    Arthur

  • pero quien es este tio que canta, donde esta jon, por lo menos los de los bugles tenian su propio estilo y no imitaban a nadie

  • I miss Bill Bruford's drum part. It's much more intricate and technical than what Alan plays. The new singer is pretty awesome though.

  • I was front row at the Belfast show last night.....i,m not a massive follower of the band but they were very good live.

  • Indeed, I too was in the audience at this show. They had cancelled twice in Houston but it sure was worth the wait and the 5 hour drive! Specially that we got both Yes and Asia...too bad for the European fans who did not.

  • im goin to see them in london on tuesday. tell me please its good live without anderson.... did they play gates? or anything from tales? 03 tour was so good with jon and rick

  • Saw the show in Edinburgh last night excellent performance. Benoit is a great vocalist in his own right and fits with the music. Steve & Chris their usual best. This was the 4th time I have seen them and the show was up to scratch.

  • The thing that surprises me most is that Oliver actually played the slow rising chord parts correctly - like he consulted with his dad for the exact notes (I consider Rick's to be the "correct" notes for those particular parts of HOTS). I swear that all the other keyboardists Yes has had when Rick wasn't in the band played bogus versions of what they thought were the rising chords for this piece. It bugged the crap out of me for two decades!

  • What's next Squires daughter replacing him on bass....I'm not sure if he has a daughter though lol....This is pathetic...See what money can do,this is all about the money not the music....Yes is not or will never be Yes witout Jon Anderson.

  • Jon is out doing a solo thing. Plus, he was sick not to long ago. Would you not want the others to continue? YES has had many players/members. I saw them with the UNION tour, at that point, all 8 members that were every in the band played, "in the round"! revolving stage! 2 gtrs, 2 keys, 2 drummers, singer and bass...So why would you say it is Pathetic? The others have a right to be able to go out and play their own music. Like I said before, Jon got sick, a fill in was needed then.

  • very well put

  • Wow, mr. David sings like an angel!! Beautiful!

  • I was at this show.

  • Comment removed

  • How odd (about 3:00) Chris looks like he's trying to assault Steve, who visibly backs away...

  • Alan has been the drummer for decades, since Yes was in their prime. Relayer and Going for the One have some great drum playing.

  • Well done on the video! I don't care what they wear, how they look or who has bowed out (though I do love Jon) I have always loved them and always will...they have endured though many different line ups over the years. I just really dislike when people have to be so insulting and cruel on these. Why?

  • I like Alan, but sometimes his interpretations of Bill's stuff make me wince.

  • The studio version of this is great because the focus is on the drums and not the bass. But in the live versions the focus is on the bass and not the drums so it's not as interesting. We miss you Bill!

  • Wheres Jon. Have not listened to Yes for quite some time.

  • wouldn't it be great to see YES wearing jeans on stage ?

  • They were great even with Moraz.

    This clip is excellent. Thanks

    for posting!

  • Too bad the great jam at the beginning of the song is cut off.

    What were you thinking?

    Too long for you?

Anyway, I saw them too and it was great.

But to all of you who think they sounded great, and they did, you should have heard them with Jon and Daddy Wakeman in '78.

    OMG.

They were more amazing than you I could have ever imagined.

  • Only the first little bit was cut off. They play the slow bass solo part and the the jam three times afterwards.

  • Very good video. I was at the July 2nd show in SF and Alan White must have been sick that night for he looked pained and his playing was the worst I've seen in 10 Yes shows. He is one of my all time favorite drummers but was not playing on all thrusters that night. Much better here.

  • I saw them mid-July and thought the same thing, as did my dad and other people we talked to.

  • WoW! I was thinking there was I going to be in for a big let down seeing them without Jon. Real nice vocals, very true to the recordings from the 70s

  • @obcrest I swear to God, if it weren't for Benoit David's French Canadian accent his voice would be a dead ringer for Jon Anderson. I was hoping to go see them this summer, but too much other stuff going on. I wouldn't hesitate to see them if I were anyone else (don't be hung-up on the absence of Jon Anderson). BTW, there's a radio station interview with Benoit on Youtube. He seems like a genuinely nice guy.

  • This sounds great. They didnt do this when I saw them this past Dec. Chris needs to ditch those medival tights. Yuch!

  • Excellent audio and video. Benoit is in fine voice here. In a blind listening test the only thing that gives him away are certain vowel sounds that are unique to him. Otherwise it may as well be Jon singing.

I think nostalgia tends to color our memories of Jon's vocal performances from Yes' 70s peak. I have plenty of tapes where his singing is flat or off-key. JA's vocal technique improved vastly in the 80s and 90s.

  • You are perhaps one of the few people on youtube that can see through the bull! I bow to you in great respect! Sincerely ;-)

  • Sorry Jon Anderson fans, the new singer sounds more like Jon than Jon does. I just saw them last night in Pittsburgh. Benoit was on pitch 99.9% of the time, sounded like Jon 20 years ago! He was also filled with energy. It was a great pleasure to see them perform songs from Drama.

  • I have to agree. I had heard a bootleg recording of Benoit/Yes and he was not so good. He was great on Tuesday night. I actually thought I might leave after Asia was done, but I stayed for Yes and was glad I did! Asia was fantastic too!

  • Yeah, I was never an Asia fan, but loved all the band members in their past efforts. I was so impressed with John Wetton's voice! He sounded like he even improved over the years!

  • Very good effort by the band having to tour without Jon Anderson. Benoit does a good job, but it really lacks the soaring soul of Jon's voice.

Also, if you compare this tour with the Union tour in 91 (also on youtube), the 7 piece band with two drummers was much more powerful and amazing. I suppose we'll never see that again. Jon has lost octaves off his voice etc.. This song has to be one of the best songs of all time, but see the 91 union tour version for the real thing.

  • Great stuff.

Although I wish Chris would just play the bass line instead of playing it at the front and middle of the stage with the solo spotlights on him. Bless him.

  • Thanks for this video...great sound..

  • great videos, do tou have the rest of the show? It seems they are playing better now than 3 weeks ago in Snoqualmie.

  • TItle is Changed! Thanks for not flaming me for my mistake. Only if they had played "Changes!" A special shout out to my wife Edith for taking the video while I was enjoying the concert.

  • @damonjasso ¡Un gran vídeo, gracias! A great video! Thanks!

  • Might want to change the title - just a tip.

  • Heart of the Sunrise-

Chris is STILL the best bass player on the planet
