she was practicing for the opening ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics when she fell. In the ceremonies, she would have been dancing on a platform carried along by people I think. When she fell, she was rushed to the hospital and now she is paralyzed can't feel anything below her chest.

Zhang Yimo is blaming himself as well for not pushing hard enough for the organizers to adress some safety issues he himself had concerns about. Yeah, well you are respected for your movies etc, but guess what, too little too late. Typical beauracracy (especially Beijing in this case) always cutting corners.

What's more, they kept it quiet for 2 1/2 weeks. Even pulling one earlier China news report off the web. Wonder how much compensation she'll get from Beijing...if any.

"We were told by our source that the dancer had been paralysed but after three phone calls to the organisers press office were told categorically that she had only 'broken her leg' and was recovering well from the fracture. ... A few days later a local Chinese reporter produced pictures of the injured dancer and interviews with key figures which made it clear that she was far more seriously injured than Bocog had admitted."

Two weeks ago, while practicing for the only solo in the spectacle of the Beijing Opening of the 2008 Olympic, there was an equipment malfunction, and the stage she was to have leapt upon was not there. She fell into a shaft, breaking her back. she will never walk again.

It's simply disgusting that the Chinese government has suppressed all news of this national tragedy from the people. This woman gave her all for the glory of China and this is how she is to be repaid, by indifference and silence?
