How many times I have watched her so beautiful dances I couldn't remember. What a talet girl! I like her so much! I wish her getting a health legs as so as possible!
Chinese people and the World has lost one of the greates dancer and artist......although she has that strong spirit to success and now deprived.....the Chinese government owe her a big compensation and help so she can persue her dream now in other direction......Bless you Liu Yan we are at your side......
btw, did she sue Beijing Olympics? Somebody is obviously at fault here! SHe didnt fell cuz of her dancing ability but of the technician's negligence it sounds like.
she was practicing for the opening ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics when she fell. In the ceremonies, she would have been dancing on a platform carried along by people I think. When she fell, she was rushed to the hospital and now she is paralyzed can't feel anything below her chest.
no, it won't happen. Her ability to walk is no more. With that in mind, our thoughts of Liu should be focused on her finding enough engaging and fulfilling things in her life.
i love her. you can see the passion for dance in her eyes. she has the most amazing leg control. her developpes are beautiful. her back bends are magnificent. such gorgeous technique. im saddened by her accident but i seriously pray that one day, she'll return to the dance world. we need dancers like her.
Dance is about the art of beauty (as Zhao Ming stated in the New York Times article on Liu Yan)....and , most certainly she epitomizes this truth. Remarkable talent. Her accident prevents her from dancing now...but, miracles happen! Bravo to a star.
Sending prayers for Ms. Yan that her powerful mind that enabled her to dance this stunningly will transform her life with equally stunning accomplishments in whatever she chooses to do.
upon hearing the news and watching this dance, I was so sad for her. Worse is, Chinese press hid it to the people instead of the people knowing the news will support her and pray for her.
I know that she will be kept safe in God's hands. I am not a big fan of her but hearing about this is really sad. Let's just pray for her and let the rest up to God.
words cannot describe my loss, pain, and anger for what had happened to Liu. i was just as shocked as you are when discovering this tragedy. It was, however, hid by the Chinese official press not by Chinese people! There's a difference and i hope you can think before you speak next time.
So this beautiful dancer is now paralyzed after a fall, preparing for the opening ceremonies in Bejiing? It's almost like life says, sometimes: "What's the worst thing I can do to a person without killing them?"
Zhang Yimo is blaming himself as well for not pushing hard enough for the organizers to adress some safety issues he himself had concerns about. Yeah, well you are respected for your movies etc, but guess what, too little too late. Typical beauracracy (especially Beijing in this case) always cutting corners.
What's more, they kept it quiet for 2 1/2 weeks. Even pulling one earlier China news report off the web. Wonder how much compensation she'll get from Beijing...if any.
Current favorite from the sad story in China about Liu Yan, who was paralyzed before the Opening Ceremony in an accident during one of the rehearsals.
It is tragic. A great talent, who lost herself for love of dancing. Let's keep praying for Liu Yan, in our own ways, keep it short and sharp. She deserve to love a normal life. Oh man!
As a dancer, and also a chinese dancer, i can feel how much pain she is going through mentally, but from what she said was tt sacrificing for Beijing Olympic was worth it. How noble. I hope she could get back all her strength and all possibilties to be on e stage agn, really admire her alot, JIAYOU Liu Yan!
Such a human tragedy. I cry for her. She's paralised and only hoping for miracle that she might be able to move her legs ever again, when she used to dance like this.
She was from Inner Mongolia? I read so. If she has a daughter, she may continue her mother's aspirations. Only hope.
Beautiful lady, amazing dancer, tragic story. It's funny how we are starting to bash China for being a communist country when the US is quickly headed in the same direction with our thought police and hate crimes proponents.
Let this be a lesson that we want to turn back on this road before it's too late.
I hope Liu Yan recovers from her injuries and wish her speedy recovery.
Just read the news about the accident before the olympics. It says she is paralyzed from the chest down. She can move hers arms, but still hoping she can ever walk again. Search yahoo news, it's there.
Regarding the controversy, from Peter Foster of the London Telegraph
"We were told by our source that the dancer had been paralysed but after three phone calls to the organisers press office were told categorically that she had only 'broken her leg' and was recovering well from the fracture. ... A few days later a local Chinese reporter produced pictures of the injured dancer and interviews with key figures which made it clear that she was far more seriously injured than Bocog had admitted."
The Chineese government and NBC were in collusion to keep this a secret as to not distract from the opening ceremonies. The American TV networks and the Chineese government are equally corrupt and despicable. I had never heard of this dancer, but thought her performance was very moving.
Ignoramous, she is the most accomplished of Chinese Classical dancers. Two weeks ago, while practicing for the only solo in the spectacle of the Beijing Opening of the 2008 Olympic, there was an equipment malfunction, and the stage she was to have leapt upon was not there. She fell into a shaft, breaking her back. she will never walk again.
Thus, your lascivious comments are less than appropriate. Had you known the above, I assume you would have wished her strength and courage in her recovery
It's simply disgusting that the Chinese government has suppressed all news of this national tragedy from the people. This woman gave her all for the glory of China and this is how she is to be repaid, by indifference and silence? What she needs now more than ever is to know that the people support her and do, if only they were aware of the tragedy that has befallen her and the nation.
This is so sad that she is hurt and I'm sure everyone is doing everything they can to help her, but I don't think you should blame the government. This is a dark cloud and maybe it is better this way.
The Chinese media did report this story. It's just that they did not "broadcast" it to the extent New York Times would have liked it. I read it days ago in the Chinese media and actually wondered why no western media had picked up this story until I read the NYT article today. It's not fair for you or the NYT to accuse the Chinese govt of a cover-up.
People say that actors and actressed who star in Rouge are cursed. Rouge was a movie starring Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui and both stars died a shocking, early death!
Most expressive face I've ever seen on a dancer. She is not just a dancer--she's an actress, too. Tragedy! Why was there a 10 foot shaft for her to fall down!

The Chinese people is so guilty than the official press allowing the reproof.
