On the other hand Thompson would be to drunk or drugged to even show and Ginsberg would tear a hole in my head ... hmm... maybe just Huxley then .. if he were around
The zombie authors I'd invite to dinner are HP Lovecraft, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Fyodor Dostoevsky. And Vladimir Nabokov. *shifty eyes* I'm a writer, I can't count.
JOHN BARROWMAN! (Yes, he counts he's written/co-written two books shut it). Do I REALLY need to answer the why on this one?
Yasmine Galenorn - Because I love her books and she is very nice and friendly and I would love to chat with her not only about her books but her pagan faith as well.
Jane Austin for pretty much all the reasons that you stated as well as to see her handle/interact with a Gay and a Pagan. =D
Michael Chriton because, well I loved him. His books were so techniqual and I know we would have an intellectual conversation.
Jane Austin-nuff said
Nick Hornby-because British authors are love. His books are witty and lovely!

Now that's a nice assortment.

What about Oscar Wilde? He'd make for interesting dinner conversation...that said, he'd probably annoy after a while...
Terry Pratchett FTW!

Yeah, he really would. You could always alter the invitation slightly and get everyone to pretend to leave early and sneak back once he was gone...

I also suspect that, while brilliant, my other guest, Poe, would be quite depressing...

MARGARET ATWOOD, NEIL GAIMAN, AND JOHN GREEN.

No, no you don't need to explain the why of John Barrowman. It's perfectly obvious. In fact, I might add him to my dinner party, too. :D
I haven't heard of Yasmine Galenorn - what sort of stuff does she write?

I'd invite Neil Gaiman, William Gibson and Scott Westerfield. Because I think they all have amazing brains.

That would make for quite the entertaining dinner. Nice choices.
