Looks like this show is going to finally get its legal release on DVD on October 3rd. It's been set for release before but never happened, so fingers crossed this time! It'll be a huge seller and anyone who's never seen it, grab a copy, you won't be disappointed!!

Possibly dated to coincide with the release in October (IF release dates are correct...it keeps changing!) of the Diana Ross & The Supremes 50th Anniversary (1961-69) set.

It's just listed on our supplier's release sheet & I'm not 100% sure about this,but it looks like it MIGHT only be a UK release.For obvious reasons I cant post our company,but I just looked on AmazonUK and it's on there as a pre-release....and I'm sure it'll be available thru eBay too!

I have a pretty poor bootleg of the DVD which has been widely available for some years, so I'm guessing that the new release has got to be better quality

It was taken from the original tapes.

@TheReturnOfStephan1 Yeah I believe the DVD I have was also taken from tapes (I got my copy from eBay) We only deal in official, legal releases so it wouldn't be on our suppliers release sheets if it wasn't the real deal. I'm off to work now. If I can find anything out I'll post it on here straight away.

@SpazChat Yes, but it's never had a UK release before, although it's been available on bootleg over here for many years. The quality was never brilliant though. It's now had its release here and is selling very well considering it's not been advertised. My parents sell this kind of thing and they tell me they've shipped out quite a few copies already.

Saw the early version this show at the Fox Theater in Detroit in February 1979 (before "The Boss") when I was stationed in Oscoda, MI in the AF. Worth driving through a snowstorm to get there - saw an awe-inspiring entertainer at the top of her game & on her home turf, which she acknowledged frequently throughout the show, and when she surrendered the mike to Aretha during "Reach Out & Touch" we went ape-sh#$. Couldn't hear the jaw-dropping opening for the roar of the crowd - best show - EVER!

Of course she doesn't get credit, but this show was enormously influential too. It really raised the bar on stagecraft for R&B singers.

And the all-white set...the smoothness of the transitions....it wasn't until Madonna's Blond Ambition tour that anyone really came close to such masterful production.

There were other really good, really big shows, but none as smooth.

Many of them were by Bob Mackie, usually in a collaboration with Diana.

Mr. Aghayan used to work with Bob Mackie, beginning in the late 1960's, when both were assistants to Edith Head, Hollywood's most prolific costume designer, after Mackie came back to Hollywood, following his tenure in Paris as a sketch artist for Jean Louis, who created Marlene Dietrich's cabaret stage ensembles.

I have to add - I have seen many dramatic/theatrical openings for great performers including Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Cher, Donna Summer, etc. After all these years, this is still the best. Bette & Cher have come close in a few of their openings, but I still get chills from this one.

Who's idea? Did Diana have input- must have. Most of you will remember the white sequined cap from the photo montage from Mahagony.

I agree with all the comments. I saw this show in St Louis in 1979. It featured a 50 piece orchestra, dancers, laser light show and of course MISS ROSS!!!!!!!!! It was one of the most memorable concerts of my life. They don't entertain like this anymore. She sounded better live than her records. Truly a great moment in entertainment history. And the performance still stands the test of time!

I saw that same show in St Louis with my older brother! It was my first time seeing her live. The next day I was at my brothers' and "Touch Me In The Morning" came on the radio, and he got goose bumps thinking about her at the show the night before! It was a great show!!!!!

Man! This was a definitive moment for me in a DR concert. She proved she was the baddest of the bad here. Peerless. The only one who came close IMO was Dionne Warwick who came out on the satge sat on a stool and sang hits for 90 mins. The max and the least. My heart belongs to Diana!
