The only thing that Gamerscore shows to other players is the progress you've made in a game, not how big of a nerd anybody is, i mean pfff, you can take 5 months to finish a game on its gamerscore, or you can take a day, and people would still see you as a nerd for any shallow reason.

Try playing new NFS:Shift, it has so many numbers, stats, and badges popping up while driving that you can't concentrate on driving the car.

In the end, no one cares about the unlocked achievements because it makes no difference in the game.

i think trophies (ps3) are better cause you'll be able to but them in a house that you have on Home. Also achievements only give you numbers trophies are objects. what's so special about a number compared to a trophy? It's like saying that you are in the NFL and you win the Super Bowl and you get a number instead of a trophy which would you rather have?

Well yeah, but most achievements are merely awarded when the player reaches a checkpoint in the game.

There aren't as many that you actually earn (beating the game doesn't count; beating the game while meeting pre-determined circumstances does, however).

it's the amount of points you got by unlocking achievement, every achievement has a certain amount of gamerpoints. Those gamer points get accumulated from every game you played into your profile.
