CiCi my playmate, come out and play with me, I cannot play with you, my dolly has the flu. Slide down the rainbow, into my apple tree, we'll be jolly old friends,
(then it switches to just clapping using each others hands)
No more shut the door you cant come back till 3004.
My mother used to sing this to me but the lyrics went: "Ce Ce my playmate, come out and play with me. Climb up my apple tree, and be my honey bee. Slide down my rainbow into my cellar door. And we'll be jolly friends for ever more, more, more!" Very cute video guys! You did a great job :D
for us in new zealand it was "see see my playmate, i cannot play with you, because i've got the flu, chicken pox and measles too! climb down the drainpipe, into the sailors hole and then we'll be best friends forever more."
In Ireland we say! Sea sea my baby, come back and play with me, for I am lonesome, and need your company, slide down a rainbow and into paradise. and then we have an odd bit at the end to see who wins
Climb up my apple tree - and bring your dollies three
Slide down my rain barrel - come through my cellar door
And we'll be jolly friends - forevermore!!
Funny how 'cellar door' evolved into 'salador' - sounds just like it, but without frame of reference, 'cellar door' has no real meaning there - salador it is! Awesome ----
'see see my playmate, come out and play with me, under the apple tree, slide down my drainpipe, into my cellar door, and we'll be jolly friends, forever more ,more shut that door, left my knickers on the bathroom floor, if you're late, shut that gate and dont come back til half past...eight!' ->i learned that version as a kid, and i've only JUST realised how dirty it is. oops.
@chickswithsticks001 There are regional variations to songs. This song probably came to Pohnpei decades ago and has undergone its own evolution in the L2 environment here. Many local children who sing the song have no idea what the words mean, they are not speakers of English.
@danaleeling My sisters and I sang it My playmate, come out and play with me.. .and bring your dolly three, climb up my apple tree, slide down my rain barrel into my cellar door and we'll be jolly friends forever more... I'm sorry playmate, I can not play with you my dolly has the flu boo, hoo, hoo, hoo hoo; Aint got no rain barrel Aint gor no cellar door... but we will be jolly friends forever more I am 34 and that is the way I remember it...carry on. Love that song
Thanks, Coyote, I appreciate you dropping by and sharing. As noted above, we did make a trip to Wisconsin. While my kids did not get their American cousins into "See see my playmate," they did teach them a variation of jacks played with rocks and a ball. Cousins returned to Connecticut and Spain playing what the Kosraeans refer to as "kingking" and the sound of rocks hitting the floor resonated through the house this summer.
I just love this. There is a "remember When" chain going around on Face Book and I posted it with it. I opted for this version instead of a shiny professional one. It is all about love and memories. Thanx
Kalahngan, I knew you were from Pohnpei, but I noted on your profile that you said you are in Hilo, hence my incorrect guess. The family and I are headed to Wisconsin this summer, maybe my kids can teach the kids there how to play "See see" Somehow, however, I doubt it - even I know that Nintendo rulz these days. Or Wii. Xbox 360....
i don't think so... you know... nowadays kids aren't the way kids are suppose to be.. they prefer grown up stuff... lolz! anyways, i'm from pni, not hilo
Yes, I realize that there is no such thing as a salador. The two girls in the video are Kosraean, from a small tropical island in the Pacific where there are no cellars let alone cellar doors. For them the word salador is a nonsense word, pronounced just that way, as if one were starting to say "salad." This is their version, unique to their island.
srry.... but its see see my playmate ,come out and play with me and bring ur darling friends, climb up my apple tree, slide down a rainbow through my Cellar*(basement) door, and we'll be jolly friend forever more 1234 1234 1234
yes, that's the version we sung as kids (although I would always say rain barrel, instead of rainbow). Bit I remember there being more to the rhyme... another verse perhaps??
The children are delightful and the videography and sound is high quality. I also appreciate you posting the words to this version of that handclap rhyme.
you forgot lots of things go on my chanel and look at my video of see see my play mate.

British version is:
Ceecee my playmate
I cannot play today
Because I've got the flu
Chickenpox and measles too
Slide down my drainpipe
Into my cellar door
And we will be best friends
Forever more!

In Ontario, Canada, I learned it like this:
CiCi my playmate, come out and play with me, I cannot play with you, my dolly has the flu. Slide down the rainbow, into my apple tree, we'll be jolly old friends,
(then it switches to just clapping using each others hands)
No more shut the door you cant come back till 3004.

@dirtyroach686 Thats the way I have just recently leaned it as well ^-^ Lol. I absolutely ADORE this song. But it is rather creppy

The metal version of this song would be funny.
A norwegian black metal version would be even funnier.
And a death metal version would be hilarious.

Bear in mind I am writing down what the two girls are actually singing, I am not purporting that their version is canonical! :-)
