  • Well, I can say that American people is very proud of their own things, included measure units, and it can be seen as un-american converting into a foreign and quite alien unit like metre or litre or kilogramme, even if i have seen that in scientific jobs they are currently used without too many problems

  • metric? whose flag is on the moon?

  • @samjezard NASA and ALL scientists prefers to use the metric system, simply because it's ALOT easier.

  • And you wonder why the world hates you, your money should say, "in ignorance we trust"

But you guys dont care, just keep living with "guns n God fearin" and things will be A-okay huh?

  • Americans are too stupid to pronouce a french!.

Its Av-waa-doo-pwaa, thats the correct prounounciation.

  • omg! I'm glad I'm Swedish lol

  • Story about one engineer working in the USA. He worked there for 10 years and once said: I could live with new culture, but that idiotic imperial system is driving me crazy.

  • Hi roger,

I saw your posts on reichian, I too saw a reichian for 3 years and it was a disaster. I tried to access your e-mail but couldn't. could you send to mine. I'd like to correspond.mgoldb8315@aol.com

  • @TheShmuTube I tried sending e-mail to mgoldb8315@aol.com, but the message bounced with the following error: "Your mail could not be delivered because the recipient is only accepting mail from specific email addresses."

  • @rogermwilcox i did not type it my name is sammy goldberg and i am the real YOUTUBER THESHMUTUBE

  • imperial sucks

    metric ftw

  • @rogermwilcox I can almost feel your pain regarding this matter. I grew up with the metric system and I'm able to convert miles to km, feets to meters, inches to cm, pounds avoirdupois to kg and viceversa on the fly. :D But to rely on the imperial system for everyday stuff, I find it quite challenging. I believe that having the metric system in your blood can give you a better sense for smaller details in everyday stuff you do. Greetings from Romania... :)

  • I think you guys could save yourselfs from a lot of issues by using the metric system instead of what you're using now, and eventually it may also strengthen your economy

  • A business point of view,

    - metric is simpler (just working in multiples of 10s).

    - international trade: how much money could be saved using the simpler and more straight forward metric system?

    - think of overlap regions like the UK: They buy fuel in litres but talk abt consumption in mpg; buy beer in pints but water in litres etc.

    - and good point about the ambiguity within the imperial system itself, This doesn't exist within the metric system.

    Business needs clarity not confusion.

  • boy that is confusing

  • @Vot63 umadbro?

  • @rogermwilcox No. There is a small noisy lobby group who keep banging on about metric. The politicians can leap to passionately support this cause, because it's a lot easier to "save the world" from a system of weights and measures than it is to run a successful economy, or formulate a functional foreign policy. For all of your bleating the traditional systems work perfectly well and have done for hundreds of years. Why don't you just run your life instead of trying to run the world?

  • @Vot63 Sure sounds like umad to me....

  • @rogermwilcox People who prefer metric should use metric. If metric is better it will replace Imperial through popular acceptance. Your problem is that the majority of Americans don't like metric and are happy with Imperial. Why don't you like people to be happy?

BTW You are the person dresed in a grubby grey teeshirt ranting into the ether, remind me who is "mad"?

  • @Vot63 Ah, I see your problem now. You seem to have missed the main message of this particular video. You assumed that because it was titled "Why we need the metric system," it was the same rant as all the others.

Please watch it again and look for the real message here. The main concern I have is not with the awkwardness of the U.S. customary units system, but with the AMBIGUITY of the old U.S./imperial unit names.

  • @rogermwilcox Roger! I just don't like metric, but your presentation was good and your t-shirt is fine. Sorry for being such a dick!

  • @Vot63

    because imperial is for retards...

  • @Vot63 majority? the majority uses the metric system xD

  • @gothikgamer The majority of people who were free to choose. Your ancestors had the Frog metric system forced upon you by Napoleon. My ancestors defeated him and locked him up on an island. You are a child of slaves. You have no right to an opinion.

  • @Vot63 forced by Napoleon? he did try many times to conquer portugal, but every time he has failed... get your facts.

  • @gothikgamer Oh dear! Why would anyone in their right mind base any action on the opinion of someone from Portugal? Portugal is no more than a skidmark on the pants of Spain. I'm sorry I responded to your comment.

  • @Vot63 what does it matter from where I am? AHAHAH xD

  • Why we need the metric system.....so retards like you who can't do math can feel smart

  • no wonder americans spend years in college to figure out the conversion tables in imperial system....

  • good video man fuck america

  • I like my drams, grains, penny weights, rods, chains, cords, and every other obscure measurement.

  • @LukeL007 Does your car get 40 rods to the hogshead?

  • @trekleader I wish your father was gay, then we would'nt have to read your messages

  • @trekleader Hey you just convinved me, with your astute rhetoric !!!!

  • You have to blame President Reagan's advisers for this continued mess. They persuaded him to ditch the metric changeover.

  • @Ashbury2193 To be fair, the way we were trying to metrify the country in the late 1970s was pretty backward. Especially the changes to education -- we still taught kids about inches and pounds first, then taught them how to CONVERT to metric units. I think Reagan's advisors made the right recommendation to pull the plug on that particular attempt. Next time, maybe we'll do it RIGHT.

  • @rogermwilcox What do you regard as wrong about the first attempt to switch the US to the metric system?

  • @Ashbury2193 For one, as I said, our approach to educating the metric system in the 1970s was backwards. For another, it was hardly our first attempt -- Congress adopted the metric system in either 1898 or 1903, depending on which source you read. I think a good first step this time around would be to allow manufacturers to label products in metric-only units IF THEY SO CHOOSE, so that a 2 liter bottle of soda doesn't also have to say "(67.6 fl oz)".

  • @rogermwilcox I agree that would be a good beginning. However, to get the most efficient metric changeover, it needs planning and commitment from the Government. Otherwise the process will be slow and piecemeal, with no co-ordination.

  • Geez...never thought about it until now...anyway, I'm from Argentina so I've never experienced such a complicated thing.

Meters, liters, Celsius degrees, and kilograms it's part of the ordinary lives of the inhabitants (I don't know if it's spelled right) of Argentina.

Pounds, gallons, miles, inches, farenheit degrees...WTF!?!...everything is backwards!!

  • @yongodharma To be fair, the Celsius temperature scale really isn't that much more usseful -- or less ambiguous -- than the Fahrenheit scale. In both cases, the numbers are more-or-less arbitrary; memosizing "75 degrees Fahrenheit" for room temperature is no different from memorizing "24 degrees Celsius". The only place where Celsius has an advantage is if you want to quickly deduce how close a temperature is to the freezing or boiling point of water.

  • @rogermwilcox True, but the real base SI unit for temperature is Kelvin, which is defined as 0 degrees at the absolute zero temperature, the temperature at which all thermal motion ceases in the classical description of thermodynamics (quote wikipedia). So the base SI unit for temperature is actually NOT arbitrary. However Celcius is easier for most people to use. Both scales have equal increments, but the zero point is defined differently. An increase of 1 kelvin is an increase of 1 celcius.

  • @pedervl ya well all the real men use degrees rankine. An increase of 1 rankine is an increase of 1 fahrenheit. However fahrenheit is easier for most people to use. Put that in your metric pipe and smoke it.

  • dear god iam so glad that i was born in germany

  • awesome video
