  • You guys go to The Wall Tour. Right now, in 2011. See one of the concerts.

Then come back and tell me Roger Waters was, or better, is NOT a genius.

    It won't work.

  • Anybody notice the roadies unloading the model plane? It looks like a Stuka Ju 87 dive bomber. I always thought it was a plane crashing at the end of 'In The Flesh part 1' i.e. Rogers' fathers'. Now after seeing this I understand it's the sound of two Hammers in a Stuka diving with its' siren wailng. I know that Roger wanted to have a bomber plane at these shows to fly over and drop bombs on members of the audience. The lucky few would be considered "heroes." Outrageous! HAHAHAHAHA!

  • 0.32-0.49

Waters himself confesses that by 1980 the band's live act had spiraled into an absurdly over-the-top, extravagant event.

  • True! In fact, the tour lost money. As Roger sacked Rick before the album and rehired him as a session player, Rick was the only Floyd member to actually get paid for the whole Wall tour! Cheers!

  • People lets get this sraight. Roger Waters is a god among mere mortals when it comes to concepts. Only Pete Townshend is on par. So if he sounds pompus he has every right. Talk to me when you have written and sold what he has.

  • yeah, and look what happened to the band when his ego and tyrannical ways took over.

  • If your a huge fan of Concepts, listen to Coheed and Cambria. all of their albums are one huge, contninous, sci-fi story. claudio sanchez, the lead singer, is the creator of the concept. he even has comic books that go with the music that he wrote. their next album will include a huge novel that goes with that album. i think he ranks up there, but their not as famous as pink floyd, obviously. they're overlooked but many, which is sad, but they have a huge following, and for good reason.

  • Roger is talking about a well crafted album. Would you expect a carpenter to say, yeah, this cabinet I spent the past four months designing and building is pretty shabby, sorry. I like it when artists are humble and considerate, but sometimes they are egotistical and pompous. IF it is what gets them to the finished product without affecting the brilliant final cut, then have at it, Roger!!! I love it regardless.

  • i absolutley love what you wrote and i feel it big time

  • in what way does he come off as a ponce?

he just seems very low key to me in this clip.

i'm surprised he wasn't doing back flips at having achieved this at all.

  • Did anybody hear that bloke near the beggining say 'I cant take anymore?'

OR am I just losing my mind???

  • how many the wall shows were shot?

  • The one from london, and 1 bootleg from New York.

  • This show and documentary really, really need to be on official DVD.

  • Such a great video, thanks!

  • Waters was the genius of Pink Floyd.

  • Indeed!

  • @rockaires No he wasn't.Syd Barrett was and Roger killed him.Thats the fact.

  • @Zodist Wrong man. Barrett has destroyed himself. Waters took the lead of the group and he was Barrett friend. See Sark side of the moon and Wish you were here for instance. Peace

  • @Zodist

if roger killed syd, why he would have produced his two solo album after the floyd separate of him. i believe that syd understood. But as said rockaires. Syd never has been so present from dark side....

  • @powerotoc Roger did not kill him. Nor did he produce Syd's Albums. Dave produced and personally took royalty cheques to Syd.

  • It took shows like this to raise the bar and take for granted the shows we get to see today.

Hopefully they'll get the concert film and this released in the next 2 years. In the meantime, it's cool that both are on You Tube.

  • damnnnn i dont get why roger wont release the live footage of them playing at earls court!! ahhhhh. you know how amazing that would be on dvd. that would seriously sell out fast.

  • I know but since hes so stubborn it probably wont be released until he passes on which is total bullshit.

  • Amazing, where'd you get this? Excellent find

  • Broadway musicals have a legacy of being dog shit. Having said that though, prior to The Wall movie, musical films also were a horrific "art form" with no redeeming features. I shall reserve judgment until I see what's been done with it.

  • Live on Broadway would be Tremendous! But im also a big Queen fan and what they did with their material for the We Will Rock You show in my opinion had the opposite effect i left the theatre feeling really pissed off and let down that they ruined Freddies Legacy by campin it all up when thats not really what Queen where about (Yes i know Freddie was gay) So for them to pull the show off they would have to use the original album soundtrack to really do it justice! Thats just my opinion.

  • I wonder if this Earl's Court show will be released on DVD someday. In fact, why hasn't it been released already? I managed to get a video copy of the show in NYC, made someone in the audience. While the image quality is mediocre, but watchable, the show is amazing. From what I have heard, though, this Earl's Court show was the best of the four shows performed. It would make a fantasic DVD and this doc would be great bonus material.

  • Roger has such a confrontational attitude back then. He's so warm and cuddly now :p

Maybe he should get his angst back (perhaps an album of quality will follow..its been well over 10 years since the great Amused to Death)

  • 15 years to be more exact.

    unbelievable, innit ?

  • Bloody hell I was putting down exatly that thought in my livejournal just now! About the difference in his expression now and then!

  • man this is so cool pinkfloyd ..the best

  • yeah.

  • If "The Floyd" were smart they would remaster this documentary along with the footage of the Earl's Court Shows that Alan Parker filmed and present a new DVD of the actual Wall Concert. It would be the final so called brick in all of the different incarnations of The Wall.

  • hear here!

  • cept parker didnt film it.

    Great idea though.

  • Alan Parker didn't shoot this. This is "The Lost Documentary", shot at Earls Court in August 1980 and I edited it. I also edited the entire concert. I worked with Barry Rebo and Marc Brickman. And you're right, it is simply wonderful. Alas, Mr. Waters will not allow its release.

    H.J.L.

  • Why won't Roger release it?

  • Because it looks terrible. The picture is so dark you can't tell what's going on half the time, the films flicker so bad or are so dim you can't even see them, etc. Apparently Roger has found better lost footage none of us have seen though and rumors are he's going to release that.

  • So...there would be:

    -The Wall album (1979)

    -The Wall Live DVD (1980)

    -The Wall Live Album (1980)

    -The Wall Documentary (1980)

    -The Wall film (1982)

-The Wall Live in Berlin (1990)

    -The Wall on Broadway (200?)

    I'd love to see this.

  • I honestly can't believe it's not a Broadway show already. And if Roger's got better footage he needs to effing get on it and put it out already! :P

  • This is very cool, which DVD is this?

  • musical history nothing less thank you so much for posting

  • This is amazing!!!

  • again great vid thankyou for posting!

  • Very cool.
