1st Marine Division went to Quadalcanal with M1903 Springfield rifles, Vickers machine guns, and a few Thompson smgs.

M1919 had not been issued to the USMC yet, the M1 Garand had not been issued to the USMC yet, the M1 Carbine had not been manufactured yet, and the M3a1 had not been manufactured yet.

@WunderDoob the m1 carbine was made in 1940. the thompson wasnt in use in ww1 the thompson was designed in 1917 and was a prototype, then the thompson 1921 came. the m3a1 was manufactured already because the prices of the m1a1 where to high

You missed the point didn't you? M3A1 was not manufactured before Guadalcanal. It was adopted for US ARMY service in December 1942, 4 months after the Guadalcanal campaign had already started. M1 Carbine was issued in July 1942 first to US Army. 1st Marine Division was already landing in Guadalcanal at the time so no, they didn't have M1 Carbines either.

1st Division was lucky they had Thompsons. All new gear went directly to the Army, and still does.
