Dude.. Re-do this in a higher Quality! It breathes new life into the song and you have an amazing vice for this song :D Re-do it! re-do it! re-do it! pleeease 8)
Awesome Kevin! I am glad to see a video with you singing. You should sing more on the videos. I never heard this song before, biut I love it. God bless you friend.
Ok covers of original songs aren't supposed to make them sound better.... The lead singer would most likely give birth if he saw this, I almost did... Great cover!!!
Dude, i have never seen anything like this before. Amazing, truly amazing. And your voice is great btw. DH is by far my favorite band of all time. Rock on.
That one guy was right, though. There is a country-ish twist. I may hate country music but it's a good thing in this case. You imparted some of yourself in the song. A lot of folks do covers and don't sound any different. I fail to see why I would want to hear the exact same thing as the original band released on their own album.
Also, if you do want to cover Carry Me Down, I'm sure you're aware by now that DH released acoustic versions of that and Fading Away with the "45 Days" documentary.
Yeah, I think the country vibe comes from the slightly twangy tone of the instrument and perhaps that I'm from Texas, though I've very little accent. I haven't gotten "45 Days" yet, but I will soon. I will try to crank out another DH cover, though. Just for you. :) Warning: it may take a while. But I'll try.
I look forward to it. It says on Blessed Resistance that DH is going to do an acoustic concert soon so I hope they do Thorns and someone records it. They did it once before but the recording stopped halfway through the song. That version is floating around Youtube -- maybe you could use it for inspiration?
You have some pipes on you. It's impossible to inject too much emotion into this song. It's the ultimate love-song.
Demon Hunter is the ultimate band.
This is the ultimate cover. I was actually just saying to my girlfriend that there are no good Demon Hunter covers on YouTube right as I was pressing the link to this one. I was proven wrong within 30 seconds.
That is the best compliment I've gotten so far on this video. Thank you very much. Comments from DH fans are always very encouraging! You are too kind in my opinion, of course, but I thank you very much.
this was a great cover man different but in a good way. You got a lot of talent I bet you could hook up with a band or go solo in a heartbeat keep it up
Thanks! I really appreciate the compliment and the subscription. I'm not sure how soon I'll be fronting a band, but thanks for the vote of confidence! :)
hey dude your great.. i love it.. will you do me a favor though.. i have a few demon hunter vocal covers on my page.. will you rate and comment.. thank you.. they need some views and comments.. but man your awesome at singning and playing
Thank you very much! The twist is Demon Hunter's as they recorded an acoustic version of the song first, but I suppose my instrument is its own twist. Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah, I have the Tryptich Special Edition with the acoustics on it. ^-^ But your instrument is definitely different (what is it exactly?) and you have a little of your own spin in the way you sing. :D
Oh my gosh! You really can sing. That's my friend Kevin...The song is great too. I'd never heard it before now. Thanks for introducing me to something good yet again.
This is the last song I would ever have expected to be played on a strum stick, but it was awesome. It makes me want to learn. Are they especially similar to guitar?
Hey, I'm glad you liked it! Thanks! It's actually pretty different from a guitar, though somewhat related. Where a guitar has six strings and is chromatically fretted, this instrument has three strings and is diatonically fretted.
I've got several more songs on the way, though technical issues, etc., have kept me from making videos for a while. So far none of them are Demon Hunter songs, but I hope to include more of them in the future.
Thank you very much! I guess I'm a baritone/tenor. My range is from a step or so short of the bottom of Johnny Cash's range to right at the top of Bono's. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words!
That would be very interesting! Please let me know if you do that. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the kind words. :) The builder - SmokeyMountainDulcimer(dot)com calls this a Strum Stick. That's a trademarked name, though, so I (rather jokingly) call it a Notastrumstick. The whole sordid affair is explained in my "This is NOT a Strum Stick!" video. It's a bit sad. Sorry! Long answer to a simple question. Thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed it! It's based on their own acoustic recording of the song, which appears on the Special Edition CD of 'The Triptych.' Theirs is, of course, much better. Thanks for watching!
that was nice playing and singing and i dont no wat instrument that is so please reply and tell me and since ure description is so long i couldnt be bothered reading it lol cuz u might of sed it in the thing
Wow, I thought I had replied to this. It's called a strum stick by the guy who built it. His name is Blaine Horlocker. Check him out at smokeymountaindulcimer(dot)com.
dude your awesome you should go pro oh by the way it was great and i love hardmetal ps. are you a chrishtin i am just wandering you seam like 1 though
Thanks very much! I actually couldn't tell you the chords because I just picked it out. I'm starting right now to officially learn what chord corresponds with what fingering on this instrument. It's very different from playing standard guitar chords. I've had several requests for that info and I may do a tutorial video to show how I played it and let you guitar guys figure out what the corresponding chords are!
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching, commenting and rating!!
I can't friggin believe it! You actually took a Demon Hunter song, changed the vibe and the mood, and it was still cool. Well, what can I say? I am way beyond impressed! Excellent!
I greatly appreciate your kind words. I will say, however, that I can't take too much credit, as it is based on the acoustic version that appears on the Special Edition of "The Triptych," which I very highly recommend. But I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Well, it's a strum stick by Blaine Horlocker. I'm not supposed to call it that, but that's what he calls it. Fore more information, check out my videos "The Strum Stick" and "This is NOT a Strum Stick". I believe both (but certainly the latter) have links to where you can get one. I highly recommend it!
lol... i already have an ibanez artwood, a squire dreadnaught, a Johnson piece of junk, and a washburn electric wih a peavey amp, but.. heck... maybe if these are cheap i'll look into it.. lol
I've thought about both if those, actually. And I agree a "Carry Me Down" video seems inevitable and would be fantastic. I'm always ready for more fro DH!
I've been thinking of getting a G strumstick. I'm in a folk-pop band, and thought it would be cool.
I'm not really sure I'm going to get one though, I'm really terrible at playing instruments. Is it really as incredibly easy as McNally claims? (I know yours isn't a McNally, but I would assume it's about the same difficulty)
Yes, it's easy to get started. I'm a percussionist and vocalist, though I played violin for a year when I was a kid. Otherwise, I'm not a stringed instrument player. I've been at it nearly a year and a half, but in my first week I probably learned 15 songs just picking out melodies and playing.
I'll say this. The Horlocker that I play has much better tone, resonance and volume and is cheaper than McNally's by a pretty good chunk. E-mail and I'd be glad to help you find what you're looking for.
Thank you very much! The instrument is actually a...well, I don't know what to call it! It's supposed to be strum stick, but that violates a trademark, so I call it a Notastrumstick. It's a 3-stringed, diatonically fretted instrument with many interchangeable names. See my video "This is NOT a Strum Stick!" Anyway, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I do my best. Yeah, ditto here on the 'country' twist. It's not really my doing (see previous comment). And I'm sure you could do it! A year ago, I'd never have been able to play this. This is a very accessible instrument with a wide range and lots of possibilities! Pick one up and give it a shot!
Go to smokeymountaindulcimer(dot)com or search ebay under "strum stick" and look for the one with this body style. It's from the ebay seller Smokey Mountain Music Works (same guy). I don't think he has one on ebay right now, though, so your best bet is his website.
Thanks! I'm gad you enjoyed it. It's actually based on their acoustic version of the song, which appears on the Deluxe Edition of 'Triptych'. So, I can't take much credit for the 'twist.' But I'm glad you liked it!
Okay. Thanks! I guess. It's...not really a country song, you know. But I guess this is a folksy instrument. Anyway, thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it(?).
You have a really good voice. Learn the guitar - it's no hard! Start with an open tuning like DADF#AD and it's not that different from the strum stick.
weird....strange but after "there is nothing left".....yeah...it's good, congrats

and nice vocals, too! ;)

Woah! Demon Hunter goes country!! Awesome lol! But really you rock! Wish I could do that >.>

KevinCNeece 4 years ago
where could i pick up this instrument... order it online, would a music store have it locally?? and its a strum stick?? right?

Go to smokeymountaindulcimer(dot)com or search ebay under "strum stick" and look for the one with this body style. It's from the ebay seller Smokey Mountain Music Works (same guy). I don't think he has one on ebay right now, though, so your best bet is his website.

Very Nice cover, a cover with a different twist. Good voice for this song too. BTW demon hunter rocks... god bless bro!
SWNWeb 4 years ago
Thanks! I'm gad you enjoyed it. It's actually based on their acoustic version of the song, which appears on the Deluxe Edition of 'Triptych'. So, I can't take much credit for the 'twist.' But I'm glad you liked it!

I hate that kind of music, but im not dissing you because your good at it baby. You rock, in a
you know, country sorta way.
BradyGoldie 4 years ago
Okay. Thanks!
