  • Why don't you use mylar or something to make them reusable? Because of the glue?

    Thanks:)

  • Also, your house is awesome.

  • Wow, this is a great tutorial, it really explains everything. Liked, subscribed and faved! :D

  • Is that big wax singing your theme song?

  • @JacobPattersonArt I would love to spray paint that image, whats the models name please?

  • Just out of curiosity, why in the world don't you just use stencil paper? Please don't take this the wrong way, I am genuinely interested why.

  • Damn u are a beast am so glad I found your page ! Am In art college right now and its fucking amazing Hope I can learn a couple of things form u :)

  • i love dis one

  • Hey guys, if you dont have Photoshop and dont want to get it illegally, then you can get a program called GIMP for free on windows or mac!

  • Great video it helps a lot

  • I took alot of information on board from this video before I did my first stencil canvas and I thank you for the tip of the spray adhesive, made it very easy for a crisp finish. I also found that laminating the image on the printer paper makes the stencil easier to cut and more durable for multiple prints. Thanks again for the tips =]

  • or u cud just double click, make layer from background.

  • it's better to use cutout filter, IMHO.

  • Is Montana Gold still your favourite?

  • When you ordered the spray paint do they come with caps already fitted?

  • @HeKaUKH :S how much is a huge amount :( ?

  • @SalArtkip Do it yourself, that's how you learn.

  • If you get a picture off the internet stencil it and sell it are you allowed or is there some copyright bullshit i heard about?

  • whats the glue part for again?

  • is that wax on at the end?

  • is that wax at the end of the video?

  • thank god... this is the best tutorial on utube :D

  • that doesnt seem to be very portable. sure it looks good for home use but if u try it on the streets u will end up with one use tops. but 3M glue with simple printer paper seems to be a good solution for high res stencils. easy to cut and very thin. I use plastic sheets with a printed image to guide me :) very hard to cut but limitless uses.

  • Great tutorial! I'm just beginning to learn AB but I have a tip that might help you out ,or not : ) Before printing I put frisket masking tape on top of my paper 1st. The printer prints on top of the frisket and after I cut out the image it seems to be stronger and keeps the stencil from curling up. Keep up the great work!

  • this video was really helpful for me ^_^ im just now starting stencil art and im trying to get as much pointers as possible. thanks jacob!

  • You're A Beast...My Hero ha

  • on illustrator:

    get image

    object>live trace> tracing options

    play round with the adjustments

  • What brand of spray paint is that?

  • @mitchqqqqqq

    Montana

  • do you have to use photoshop? i don't have that..

  • Its like I just heard a cricket commentary....!!!!!;^)

  • wow amazing

  • hey this is a great video and helped me alot, but i was wondering if you knew how to print multiple pages say 4 to create the whole picture. so your able to make a stencil for a big canvas ?

  • Have u considered a nickname, Jacob Patterson is a bit looooooooooooong I'd call u JP or mabye jack or pat?

  • Question, can you use Wax paper instead of Paper or plastic to separate the stencil?

  • Tip for putting a base color with can - Use Fat Cap!

  • @vboiz7 certainly. I didn't need it for this particular project, but most of the time you're damn right! I have noticed for really big canvases as well that it is farrrrr better and cheaper to roll on house paint instead of using spraypaint at all.

  • 'Sup Jacob. Does the program to create the diffrent layers have to Photoshop? Isn't it possible to do the same thing on Coreldraw or GIMP?

If not, what version of Photoshop are you using?

Thanks, keep up the good works and the awesome vids, you rock!!

  • the glue part is good for a home studia thing but what about when your out on the street. i have that type of glue but i dont see how i could use it effectivly in a multi layer stencil on a wall

  • @chrisneversays such is the challenge of illegal art! Gotta figure that part out haha

  • i really think stuff like this makes the world SUCH a more righteous place.

  • IT"S RIGHT-CLICK (ctrl + click) "LAYER FROM BACKGROUND." None of that copy and paste stuff. Corr what a noob.

  • EHEH What is! This is JacobPatterson!

  • Richard Ryan brought me here ;)

  • Thanks man! Ive been wanting more tutorials haha. Im a sketch artist and have been wanting to start the stencil painting so thanks so much for this tutorial ill send a video to make sure i did it right, and your awesome... just throwing that out there

  • Hey Jacob do you use the grey colors 7000 through 7080? and then shock black you said. Please answer dude, keep up the awesome work. thanks.

  • @Jerkraald I use STEEL GREY, GREY STAR, DIAMOND GREY, ELEFANT, and a couple other in-between tones. And then the SHOCK b&w. Good luck!

  • Ok. You lost me at less than one minute in!

  • Genius! THANKS

  • Yo Jacob, do you recomend any other paint. montana would be hard for me to get. Just wondering if there is like a more universal company that would be easy to obtain. Thanks and keep up the good work. Your a beast!!

  • @Jerkraald you can try other paints, and they will surely work, but I buy my paints on their website or at art stores because I want to use the dustiest stuff possible, which Montana Gold is.

  • @JacobPattersonArt What do you mean by "dustiest stuff?" I assume you are talking about the paint and not the "can!" LOL!

    Thanks:)

  • @Jerkraald try sabotaz at oinkartltd(.)com

  • If you want to use a normal picture; first desaturate it then use the cutout filter. It works great for creating layers. play with the settings!

  • when i finally get printer ink I'm so trying this :D

  • Whats the thing youre using @ 7:55 and @ 10:41? What do they both do?

  • can u please do anotheir tutorial but with harder pictures i kinda dont get the first layer for the face u did and i get it how u did it but when i go to photoshop and i try i dont do it right with other pictures

  • fuck u! u are too damn good !:D i want ur talent!

  • if u live trace in illustrator this is hella easier, and if u want really big prints kinkos is the best place in the world, i do this everytime i end up buying a blank deck

  • do u wait for the spray paint dry and if yes how long

  • @121mangacrazy121 yesss you have to wait. Wait for about 15sec-60sec if it's Montana Gold.

  • Can someone please tell me what that thing he does at the beginning of his videos is called?

  • hey its james (simpsons shoes) my email got hacked :s but anyway i won't be able to get those from you atm...but anyway this vid is super extra awesome mega cool + useful i look forward to trying it out

  • Great tut.

how do you make the sound at the start of the video? (i tried and failed)

  • Great vid and tutorial! Will definitely have to try this out sometime.

  • Great video! Just a quick tip: there is a program called Screenium for free you can download. it records your screen in HD. Maybe that would make it a little easier to record :)

  • that intro creeps me out.

  • HAHA 0:52 she looks like micheal jackson

  • i dnt understand any of this lol

  • that's cool! this is really useful, thanks

  • this has to be the best tutorial i've seen!!! PROPS

  • thats... FUCKING SICK!

  • Thanks for the tutorial, it was great.. very helpful.. but what kind of paper is that?.. please respond...

  • @PabloEsparzaJimenez1 regular ol printer paper!

  • This looks amazing.

  • Brooke Burke stencil... *strokes chin*

  • Um.. select the background layer and hit ctrl + j. a lot easier. lol

  • @DesiresPerished I also wanted people to understand what cmnd+c and cmnd+v did. Though cmnd+j is a bit easier.

  • man thanks for explaining photoshop on the mac >.>

  • @Domexpo haha it's the same on mac and PC, just replace "command" with "control."

  • really complete tutorial, thanx homie

  • i love that there are 0 dislikes on this video. who could disapprove of you? no one =] keep it up!

  • This was amazing and I am so going to try to do this when I have money to do it!! Nice!! Woould you be able to use any type of paint for this or does spray paint work the best??

  • I really admire your dedication! It's awesome and very appreciated! Keep up the AWESOME work :D!

  • thats looks fuckin sweet , wihs i coukld do that

  • i wasnt even planning on doing this but i still watched this video

  • Haha none of this made sense to me and I still watched it because his art is amazing

  • love it

  • skills and talents that i wish i can have.

    great job

  • yeah im viewer 777

  • @PanCakePB im 777 as well

  • Quite awesome sir. :)

  • imo the hand needed some more texture...

  • Hey Jacob, I got to ask would you recomend this type of method to get multi layers for sceen printing? I 'm at the poor mans level of screen printing ( I don't even have real screens) lol and I want to try multi layers. please respond if and when u get time. Thanks and Keep rocking

  • @chiefthethief I'd love to say that you could, but unfortunately screenprints usually can't go over other colors. You usually have to keep the colors separated. Fortunately, however, you don't have to worry about islands with a screen. You can just let the colors exist where they exist. Maybe I will make a tutorial for this at some point...

  • @chiefthethief Thanks for the time bro, Peace and Love.

  • the title says simple....yeah right. that was gorgeous. i can't paint or draw...imma amazed

  • i love that the title says "simple".. lol :D

  • @soccergirl2900 well, I wanted to make sure I gave as many tips as possible, so I didn't raise more questions than I answered! haha

  • very informative, very professionally done, and you're really good at cutting up your audio so that you aren't talking too fast but nobody is having to wait for information. You get everything out quickly without rushing... in simple terms... without sounding like you're talking down or sideways or dumbing yourself down or talking up...

    Skills man. Skills.

  • @tonythephatone that's actually the part I was really concerned about. I am glad it was successful!

  • this is hella tight dude!

  • this is great, I just don' t have photoshop and a really steady hand. very cool though

  • Jake can i get that song somewhere? its pretty ill.

  • @AaronSB1994 soon! Wax and I will be releasing it soon. I promise.

  • @JacobPattersonArt awesome! i cant wait.

  • Gosh, that was sooo cool. Great job!

  • Fabulous!!

  • Hey Your The song playing in the end.. Is that Wax Singing? :)

  • @BarvyStudios it is indeed.

  • @JacobPattersonArt He's the same amount of Beast at rapping that you are at Painting! Thats why i'm Subbed to both you guys! :)

  • omg u got like a grand worth of spray paints o.O geloussssss

  • THANK YOU! You have no idea how long I've been waiting for someone to make a vid tutorial on multi-layer stenciling! >.<

  • i wish i had all that spraypaint :O

  • Thanks! I was wondering how to use spray paint. The result is good. It looks so profesional.

  • Jake press "command J" to duplicate a layer, easier than copy paste.

  • @rockyjob yeah, I've never been a pro at Photoshop. I am pretty amateur at anything digital lol

  • I'm so gad you have finally done one of these J.

Btw how is that social network project coming along?

  • @pkbreeze08 it's coming well! I have quite a few pieces done, but I want to make more before I drop a video about it...

  • Thanks, Jacob! Might use it.

  • This is dope

  • Really nice result =) I gonna try it :) Thanks Jacob !

  • Allso, if you realy suck at using spraycans you can use a blue soft cap and montana got 2 ventils or what its called in english. If you only press ligthly you wont get as much paint flow...

And i want your cans, donate them to a poor swedish vandal...artist... :3

  • @v94j haha I would love to. In fact, I may be in Sweden here soon, and I will need someone to go vandaliz... er, make art with. ;)

  • @JacobPattersonArt but what would my mother say about going out in the middle of the nigth to...do art... with a unknown american. :O

  • @v94j haha well it doesn't have to be in the middle of the night!

  • @JacobPattersonArt then im serten we are thinking of different stuff, couse the art im thinking of is kinda illegal :3

  • That looks so good.

  • Jacob P you are awesome!

  • what's up whit that Uh-hu-u on the beginning?

  • Uh-uh-what it is

  • you can store cans horizontally?

  • @TDLakaDavidLover you can store them how ever you like if you take the cap off you can even store it uppside down. Personaly i dont see the point in storing cans, attleast i never do thay run out to fast :P to many clean walls outside...

  • Ok, so this video was exactly what I needed today. I was going to be trying to make stencils today. That was perfect timing man.

  • this was extremely helpful

  • Great stuff man

  • GO MAC BOOK 13" !!!!!!!

  • lol pretty much exactly how i do my multis.

depending on the style im going for though.

and a little over spray isnt noticable when your spraying like 2 meter images either.

  • @broooooka wow, what are you spraying two-meter images for? I'd love to see!

  • @JacobPattersonArt well im currently working on an Angelina jolie portrait thing. just as an xmas present for my bro.

and i do other stuff just for fun.

everything i do is pretty average as im still deciding what direction to go with my art so there's no msgs or anything behind my art. its just plain pop art i guess.

dunno the best way to show you my stuff but im hoping to start recording and get some videos up on youtube soon.

nicefacenoface is my tumblr acc some of my stuff is there.

  • nice x)

  • I like the end product and the colors

  • i realy don't like her hand XD....

  • @przemasekziom the hand was an easy fix, but I loved the contrast. Everything is so dark except her hand, which pulls back a scarf to reveal what's almost a tunnel to her face (which is gorgeous, btw).

  • for the first step there is no need to go thru all that just hit the lock twice and a pop up will appear . its more simple for alot of users out there.

  • Thank you! this really helped! :)

  • lol they both think there first

  • first

  • @wener1998 FAIL...

  • @piczodan002 SHIT i failed

  • 1st
