  • This message is so important! good work guys spread the word!

  • Paul is one of the leading thinkers in the world.

Mycelium can clean the water & soil of toxic oil pollution.

With solar cells replacing nuclear power,

we can now save the world from nuclear power & oil.

  • THAT is so cool!

  • This blew me away. To think he has gotten this far, With are Nazi FDA and EPA you would think it would have been sabotaged some how. I am sure the elitest are taking note for their post depopulation regrowth of our world. Just as we have many known cures for cancer smothered and stomped on by the FDA I am surprised this has been allowed to materialize. I pray this is passed along and well documented to foild the elites. One other comparison of revitalization to the world is Ron Paul.

  • Amazing!

  • I hope the FDA doesn't say mushrooms are a drug so we'll need a prescription to buy them!

  • Brilliant!

  • Wow that was moving. Really hopeful stuff.

  • great stuff!

  • Much love, keep speakin brotha!!

  • Mushrooms :)

  • Mushrooms are incredible! Paul you´re the man <3

  • God, these hippies are fucking crazy.

  • @Supermassively I agree, and it truly is beautiful. I, too, thank our creator.

  • BUT FIRST THEY HAVE TO SAFE THE CHEERLEADER...

  • wow you are a genius !!!!

  • EYWA HAS HEARD YOUUUUU!!!!!!

  • Woah havent been this excited about mushrooms since I was 19!

  • THIS man, will change the world!

I think I would give him the rest of my life time,so that he can work longer!

A hero if you ask me

  • Comment removed

  • count me in! where do I sign on, is this happening yet? what can we do to expedite this movement?

  • @humanstanding the speaker has his own channel & website.

    YT channel: paulstamets

    website: fungi.com

    Enjoy!!!

  • mankind was not put on this earth to build huge structures, to build roads, to kill animals whenever, we were made to be the gatekeeper of earth to protect nature, not destroy it

  • Unless mankind looks towards the cause of their destructive nature they will face their own demise. A combonation of elite control of a dumbed down mass of aggressive consumers, the leaders setting the worst example and programming people to believe it is "right and worthy" and even "noble". Unless we can see into our hearts and deeper minds and find that common connection to something higher than the ego, then...

  • totally and utterly amazed!!

  • Love the earth, it's only fair. It's one big Earth that we must share. We love the earth with all our fire, it's on our souls, our one desire...

  • and thats wassup!

  • Stamets will one day be remembered as a pioneer when it came to saving ourselves and our planet. Privately he would add to this seminar that mushrooms can do wonderful things for your MIND, as well as saving us and our planet... but his understandable fear of the DEA and crazy American government meant he dropped his associations with psychoactive shrooms for the sake of his liberty and business, and after what those life destroying fuckwits did to Professor Fanaticus, who can really blame him?

  • Absolutely amazing stuff....I've just become interested in fungi, trying to understand more and also photography. As they say...'small is beautiful'. I sent this on to a few friends to watch...just says it all!!! Many thanks....wonderful work from you and your team.

  • Still the best TED talk IMO

  • Thisissocoolthisissocoolthisissocool! As an emerging amateur mycologist, this was amazing.

  • I'd be happy to share the deeper layers of the mystery to anyone who likes to have their mind pleasantly blown (and anyone who is a good "ghost writer" for possible best sellers;).... and if so feel free and let me give this Christmas. : )

  • I'm a mushroom loving guru, a life long seasoned "myconaut" scientific explorer of the mycology realm, with bold new theories & understanding that is (as far as I've found) at leading point of the "cutting edge" in the world of mycology research & exploration. Its an unfolding mystery of what IS the most incredible & surprising realm of nature, & after nearly 17 years of my own personal interest & scientific study, the mystery continues to unfold with one astonishing surprises after another.

  • World is our responsible.

  • Paul Stamets..is THE MAN!!!

  • great to see paul get a standing ovation. i have some of his books, hes a legend

  • thank you!

  • If it doesn't save the world, it'll still be one hell of a trip.

  • this guy is crazy .. smart…. not a great presentor but GREAT ideas.

  • I just LOVE this presentation. Thank you TED Talks! It gives we that see the destruction some real hope for the future. In fact, I just received an e-mail from the Sierra Club, to vote non support of a bill that would hurt the earth, in cleaning up a coal spill in Lake MI. I added this link, and told our reps in gov to stop following the leader, and to take action that 'makes sense.'

  • YOUR INTELLECT>DILIGENCE & INTELLIGENCE IS A GIFT 2 HUMANITY!

    in deep gratitude ...

  • @UniversalAngel13 - I second that!! :D Thanks to those who truly love this planet Earth, are so unbelievably led to those things to help mankind.

  • why is he so nervous?

  • @Meroligo - He's a research scientist, not necessarily a speaker. AND, he's using his total memory and not reading from 'notes', which is greater than any politicians I've seen. :D

  • @Meroligo but I thought lucy went to the toilet

  • i came here from Leonardo Dicaprio's Twitter page lol

  • mind is blown. amazing.

  • Awesome .... saw this on Google+

  • the earth needs more people like paul

  • holy crap so there used to be giant mushrooms? wwoooowww thats amazing

  • Fucking brillant, bravo brother...bravo

  • I came here because its interesting

  • I came here from Esoteric Agenda.. good stuff

  • i came because of the doc 2012 time for a change

  • @2:15 "Opisthokontum" = the superkingdom that joins animalia and fungi

If you want to google it, that's the spelling.

  • So... James Cameron ripped of this guy and made Avatar?

  • knows all that information. he doesnt hold a text or anything from which to read.this guy is a genius

  • "Fungi are the earth's natural internet" - replicating physically what they perform neurologically/trans-physically in those specimens that exhibit psychoactive/psychedelic properties.

  • This is the kind of forward-thinking, sustainable and naturally cooperative intelligence I can get behind.

  • That dude is becoming rich.

  • Paul Stamets is a hero, everyone should listen to him:-)

  • I could follow this religion. Our forests need caretakers. I'd gladly reseed the trees. No man made structure will equal nature and it's complexity before us. We should respect the gifts given, before they are withdrawn. Why can't men see past the symbolism of religion, to actually see the miracle of creation itself? I cannot see the painter, yet the brushstrokes are plainly visible upon the canvas. As we rush headlong into the abyss, per chance we remember why we're here, to dream.

  • @skekze Absolutely beautifully said. Always happy to see people like you out there

  • @skekze WORD.

  • Comment removed

  • @skekze Why bring religion/creationism into it? Unless you were just personifying the world, in which case i'd agree, we're inseparable from nature. Mushrooms have no religion :D.. though if I were forced to choose one- i'd pick that.

  • @Buddypalbro

well, I agree with you. But there are many people who find their spirituality through naturalism. I know, for me anyway, that I cannot "fix" myself through naturalistic things. For me, I need a "God". Particularly, Jesus. But these ideas I agree have nothing to do with religion, really. Naturalism falls under science. Science will never answer all questions. Kant and his followers of rationalism came to a halt and existentialism was the answer to rationalism.

  • @skekze if you're going to take that path, or expand on that idea, please do not turn it into a religion

  • @skekze That's druidism your talking about

  • @skekze You're a fucking whackjob.

  • I get it, so if mycelium is a nervous network then we should all put dirt into our brains to help channel nutrients!

  • finally a scientist who isn't a waste of space, bliss

  • Amazing video, I am definitely going to spend some time looking into Pauls work.

  • Brilliant.

  • I put this video in my favorites because I'm interested in Paul Stamets' studies on the awesome benefits of mushrooms.

Hopefully one day Paul will realize that evolution is only a theory.

  • @beatlemicah Evolution IS a theory, and a magnificent infinitely verified one at that.

  • @momoruvspoo Gravitation IS a theory. Jump from top of the building if you want to test it.

  • @beatlemicah what does this mean? Gravity is also only a theory, but I don't see you flying.

  • I now have hope for the future of the human race and this planet.

  • this is amazing! nature gives us everything we need to solve our problems on the planet. all we need to do is manage things scientifically instead of doing everything for PROFIT based on a false infinite-growth model!

  • A false prophet? Where is that kinda stuff even coming from?

What matters is that this video shows the incredibly useful variety of things that fungi can do, and how incredibly easy it is to get Fungi to do all of them practically at once. And they feed us. I love the way mushrooms taste.

    Mushrooms are the shiz, bro.

  • can u say that dude is the come of jesus, save the world . . .E=MC2

  • just get it all nice and mouldy

  • @networkedfreedom He Teaches Evolution. The Earth is BILLIONS OF YEARS old. Formed by chance. From rocks and nothingness.

David Wolfe knows things used to have a blue pigment. And this guy says, everything was red and fungi. This guy is honestly, not speaking the truth. He's made a religion out of Mushrooms, derived from Evolution.

  • @Yaylin2 People like you are so ignorant. Yes, he teaches evolution.. That's because he's educated in the field of science. Ever thought of that? You are a random person on youtube, you do not understand the complexity of life like these scholars do, you have no idea what you're talking about. And even if we formed from chance, is that supposed to change facts? No, who cares if formed from chance.. Be happy you're here, and live your life. Don't be a brainwashed sheep.

  • @sushiyama1 So I must worship the Holy Sacred Cow called Evolution?

    You have lost it.

I'd be happy if you were not heavily indoctrinated into lies.

Evolution requires Origins, it is a Religion. Evolution is not Science.

You have no idea what science even means.

Clearly you, sushiyama1, are completely random and brainwashed

  • @Yaylin2 Obviously you're totally brainwashed into your religion. There's really nothing I could ever do to convince you of anything. All you need is time and/or education. Arguing the comment section of a youtube video from 2 totally different perspectives is going to do nothing.

  • What in the world a scientific research and result has to do with any religion? Hello, 21st Century here :)

  • @xY00xH00x 21st century does not mean we are more advanced. Actually, stone tools are better than the trash we use. Refridgerators do not last 100 years anymore, like they used to. People want you to buy more fridges every 10 years now to feed the Governemt.

  • Fucking what!?

  • My eyes are open...

  • @Yaylin2 false prophet? how so?

  • Yes!

  • hemp and mushrooms can save the world for sure ,

    kombucha cancer cure,

hemp oil ( psychoactive ) cancer cure ( oral doses )

films, emperor has no clothes, run FROM the cure ( youtube it )

both "plants" give man access to divine information and are therapeutic also.

  • My favorite ted talk

  • i can´t read a word of the sheets . must be in min. 480! TED needs to go HD!

  • fungi eats radiation. are they useing this in japan?

  • @tabuma

They = $ ....... the answer is , why is helping people profitable ? The answer is probably no, but I hope to god its yes.... thc oil also helps with any radiation cancer and will probably cure it , kombucha tea is essential also.

  • @tabuma he says fungi uses it for energy. That doesn't mean it can reduce radiation levels necessarily

  • Long live Terence McKenna.

  • Nice !

  • The Man is a genius,

    Save us from our ignorance.

  • Very cool.

  • This man's brilliance has me crying tears of happiness right now.

  • @MrTenshihanQuinn Same here!!!!

  • I am completely blown away.

  • Paul Stamets is a genius! I went to school with him at The Evergreen State College. Pay attention, people. He just showed us how fungi rapidly cleans up toxic debris and turns it into a thriving ecoculture and has burlap bags ready to clean up and heal the land and nontoxic pesticide system. Applause!!! That's what I could understand...I will have to watch this again and again. Keep those patents coming.

  • give me magic mushrooms

  • I want to have mushroom soup now.

  • The only fear I have is that he patented those innovative ways to use mushrooms. So is he truly in it for the good of the world or is he trying to make money?

  • @XSilvenX By patenting the technology he is accomplishing two things: a) The money earned goes towards continued investment in reasearch (as well as quality of living...I can't knock someone for figuring out a way to be financially independent) and b) prevents greedy companies from essentially "strip mining" fungal resources for profit. With Paul Stamets, it is done in a way that is both eco-friendly and conservation minded. Patenting essentially protects the technology from being abused.

  • @XSilvenX no he patented them so that no oil tycoon or banking cartel can steal his technology and ideas. Plus you can be sure that with a guy like that, the money are not gonna be used for million dollar mansions and hoes =)

  • 14:09 is freakin scary

  • Does anyone know any companies that have started using mushrooms to save the world? eg. remediating contaminated diesel dumps, etc...I'm a fresh environmental engineering graduate and find this stuff fascinating!!!

  • it's to bad the right people will probably never see this. I hope this takes a good foot hold in cultures around the world!

  • @SKeTChyGr0WER How many degrees of separation are there between you and "the right people"? If you share this vid with others, and some of those share it with others, it will be seen by the right people.

  • @Snurdgerbly Truth and shared

  • @Snurdgerbly YOU, I, WE, are the right people, we live in a closed jar, called Planet Earth

    Peace

  • @MrBiejos Exactly. You, I, we and all the others who don't know about this until we tell them, are the right people. The profit-driven media won't talk about it. It's up to us to tell our friends.

  • Like, Wowsville man

  • @KoMAhasBUDS thanks sending me here

  • @Dmitry1990 ahahah Joe fucking Diaz in the house!

  • Outstanding.

  • Video at 14:56 is one crazy sentence.

  • thechangereaction(dot)com

  • Seriously people this is important stuff, this involves the protection and security of our home. Too many arguments on here about recreational mushroom use and religion. Recreational use of psychedelics also have their value, but can we focus on something a little more important than just what concerns OURSELVES for a moment?

  • The Steve Jobs of Mushrooms

  • I think humans are fungi ... more like a deadly mold that kills everything.

  • Damn man. I wish I was smart as FUCK like this guy.

  • In soviet russia toaster strudel eats YOU

  • I transcribed this speech out and paid a hooker $120 to read it to me.

  • @fozzyfiend Why, why does this matter to you?

  • @fozzyfiend Who is Joe Rogan ?

  • @fozzyfiend ...Joe Roegum?

  • @fozzyfiend Which podcast?

  • @fozzyfiend I came here because I love mycology, but I've been on this Joe Rogan kick lately and im psyched to hear hes a Stamets fan xD

  • This is exactly like avatar

  • @ 3:31 "I present to you that these are extended neurological membranes"

ah, whoa there chief, that's one hell of a jump in assumptions.

  • I wish this guy was intelligent enough to understand The Defense Dept is the enemy of the U.S. They could have used this technology to clean up the Gulf BP oil disaster of 2010 instead of killing everything w/ core exit!!! The bastard U.S. govt used core exit knowing it would destroy so much life, food, & ruin local economies in the area hence driving up food costs & making more people reliant on Big Govt intervention in everyday life! Traitorous Govt we have- such assholes!!

  • I love shiitakes in garlic and red wine!

  • 14:10 is quite possibly one of the most interesting photos I've seen. Nice work!

  • Yum mushrooms

  • Mind blowing. This is superb.

  • amazing that fungus can do so much. more research needs to be done in the mushroom world.

  • PSILOCYBIN

  • Unbelievable mushrooms can save the world.

  • I like this video.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • does anyone else see faces at 07:33 ?

  • I want to share your VERY informational video with my Junior Master Garndener Group but your first comment under your video will turn their parents off since most of them are homeschooled christians. Is there a way I can share your video w/o them seeing the comments under it? At our last meeting I taught the kids about shitake and I showed them how to do the plugs and sent them home with logs. They are VERY interested in this. Thank you!

  • I adore this TEDTALK but no, fungi are not sentient-

  • @robotaholic - Stamets says fungi are sentient, AND he gives an explanation of what he means by this. You, on the other hand, deny that fungi are sentient, yet you supply no reasoning whatsoever to support your claim. Clearly you care enough about the issue to post a comment about it. However, it appears to me that Stamets knows what the word "sentient" means, and that you do not. Perhaps if you look up the definition, you will find that he meant something different from what you assumed.

  • @kevintype I've heard Stamets claim several times that mushrooms are intelligent beings that think about and care for their descendants and that evolution is an 'intelligent force' in such a manner that I almost expect him to start talking about a gaia earth mother spirit or something. He never provides one single piece of scientifically substantial evidence to support such claims. I think he has some good ideas but he is far from being a respectable peer reviewed scientist, imo.

  • @TheEpisteme He has provided 18 minutes worth of it. Science is far from the end all and be all of information. We are not waiting for "science" as a entity to give us thumbs up or thumbs down on ideas. Too many things are being ignored because "science" has not at the time or care to confirm it for the rest of society.

Take 7g of psychedelic and see the proof with your own eyes. You will be connected to this natural internet.

  • @KillCredit You obviously don't understand what science is, or the purpose for the scientific method. Science is not an entity and it is not a corporation. Science is an objective process of removing uncertainties that arise because of human nature. In this 18 minute video, where his claim that fungi are sentient beings with actual awareness of their surroundings is concerned, he provided no scientific arguments, and only equivocation at best. Response to stimuli does not imply intelligence.

  • @TheEpisteme not sure if my last post worked sorry if it did and this is a repeat. I guess I don't understand science. Instead of waiting for a peer review that could be wrong in it's decision I decided to go see for myself. These organisms told me this same information with the chemicals they produce to interact with my brain. I would love to hear what experiences you've had with these organisms.

  • @KillCredit The hallucinogenic properties of chemicals produced by some plants and fungi is not the issue being discussed here. And besides, if you want to say that hallucinogens are 'talking to you,' its not the mushroom or plant thats talking to you, its the molecule of the active hallucinogenic compound. And yes I have had a very interesting experience with a hallucinogen, so don't give me any shit about knocking it before I try it.

  • @TheEpisteme - We might have a lengthy discussion sometime on subtle variations in usage of words like "sentient" and "intelligent," and I wonder whether you've searched very diligently for papers Stamets may have published in peer reviewed journals. However, I see you are also dealing with people here who think they can obtain compelling scientific data by ingesting hallucinogens, so on the whole I must say you and I probably agree on far more issues than we disagree. Best wishes to you.

  • @kevintype What about the double helix? Is that compelling scientific data? Because the man who discovered it hallucinated it during using psychedelics. Try it yourself. You don't have to be a genius or a prophet or a drug abuser. We have a connection with plants like it or not. We breathe off them eat off them and if we let ourselves we can communicate with them. Science has not explored this enough and the current attitude towards shamanism is "whitch doctory". All information is provisional !

  • @KillCredit The fact that a scientist, being a human being, can take drugs doesn't change the fact that any hypothesis postulated during a drug induced trip must still stand up to the rigors of the scientific method to become an accepted theory. We know that Francis Crick's helical model of DNA is true because of Rosalind Franklin's X-ray diffraction images confirmed it. There's a big fucking difference between a shaman and scientist who happens to take drugs.

  • @TheEpisteme That is my problem. "Accepted theory". There are cures for cancer and they are being held back because "science" wont accept them. Why do I have to wait for a group of "peer reviewers" to conclude what I think is right or wrong. If this information doesn't work for you that's fine, but it's been working very well for me and my whole life has changed by accepting and communicating with plants and fungi. Unless you are willing to take the substance, how can you tell me about it?

  • @KillCredit Because the scientific method is the only way to be sure we aren't wasting time and effort on placebos that don't work. Believing that something is true or beneficial with all your heart isn't enough. Thats religion and dogma. When lives are at stake for something as important as a cure for a deadly disease objective study and scientific trials are absolutely essential. Don't make the mistake of confusing corrupt governments and pharmaceutical corporations with true objective science

  • @TheEpisteme I agree. However that is not what's happening. I am a artist. Constantly I find myself struggling with people of a scientific mindset that believe instead of think. I know I need more of a balanced mind and I am working towards that. I also think the science community needs to accept and explore. I find a arrogance when talking about hallucinogens. I get looked at as a druggie instead of someone legitimately trying to find out whats going on. Settings can't be duplicated "exactly".

  • @KillCredit Perhaps you didn't read my other comment. I have taken hallucinogenic substances and I don't share your opinion. Thats why scientific studies are important. People have very different experiences on such things and have very different opinion about a lot of things. Scientific studies demonstrate what is true with empirical evidence and determine what the most reasonable theory is. Scientists don't hold dogmatically to old theories deposed by new evidence.

  • @TheEpisteme Sorry I didn't see that one. Did you take enough? I'm not talking a recreational does. I"m talking a shamanic dose. That is neither here nor there though. Science for all it's quest of knowledge will gladly inject animals with the most horrific viruses. However when it comes to anything like paranormal, voodoo, shamanic, mystical, there is not a meticulous amount of scientific research behind it. I more suited to talk about MY experience and how it connects. Science has dogmas too

  • @KillCredit What I took was a plant, not mushrooms, and I don't know how much you would say is a shamanic dose but it was it was enough to have hallucinations that nearly completely obscured and totally changed my normal perception for the duration of its effects. I felt the sensation of a presence that wasn't there, but I believe it to be foolish to assume there was a presence when there is no other evidence to support that claim, and whole libraries on neurology and perception.

  • @TheEpisteme Can you describe your experience in more detail? A shamanic dose is something I do very rarely (because of how intense it is). Of mushrooms it's about 7grams of dried product. Were you orally consuming dmt, or smoking it? What plant if you don't mind me asking?
