  • Hes Tom Morrello he can make a broom sound good if he wanted to

  • I'm not hatin', but can someone please explain what was the point of using the double neck? Tom used the 12 string guitar for like 2 seconds :S

  • @SL9SH The point is- using it for this two seconds ;-)!

  • the energy is amazing

  • Comment removed

  • I so was there!

  • Tom Morello is a guitar god

  • Bruce Springsteen wrote this song as he was inspired by the novel "Grapes of Wrath"....

  • @tths667 you can get a converter at tubemusicdownload com

  • Interesting stage lighting! Well done Dusseldorf!

  • people that argue on youtube should be taken behind the shed and beat down

  • yes!

  • @chiachi77 Word.

    Also, this performance owns. Still.

  • no peace no rest .... NO REST!

  • all music is different cause people have different tastes, i could easily find 2 million people that hate this and 2 million that love it, its what you're in that counts and if you're not into the music then you wont be able to make out the difference in all rages songs

i personally think this is a great cover and springsteens version being the original is also great

Its all about opinion stop putting your petty views across as fact

  • Plus im a huge fan or the band and believer in rage being pioneers in their field as sprinsteen was and still is

  • every song sounds the same i guess when you are deaf in both ears.lol!!!!

do not apologize for your lack of hearing we understand your problem and sympathize for you.lol!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Compared to the version with Morello and Bruce, this song is shit

  • It's a completely different genre. Zack can't do Bruce, and Bruce can't do Zack. I would agree this version lacks the intensity and emotion I've gotten from other recordings. But to say it's "shit"?

Just because you're not a RATM fan doesn't mean they suck.

  • you know, as much of a ratm fan that i am, you're right.

  • they need to turn up the bass

    still awesome!!

  • YEL SEE ME!

  • Listen to the Tom Morello version with Bruce guys, its so so so good

  • I love the dance Zack does at 1:35. The Cross Country Skier.

  • not my fav..but great...really great band.thaks RAGE and thank you BOSS.

  • should also thank grapes of wrath-John Steinbeck

  • brilliant cover of a Springsteen classic.

  • renegades

  • LOL Tom with a double SG xD

This is great, one of my eternally favorite bands

  • these guys are zep of the future!!!

  • How can you not jam to this!?!?!?

  • BADASS GUITAR!!!

  • hey whats the with you matha fuckers you dont know zack ,you cant sing like him ,his the fucking man!!damn you idiots

  • wtf ur talking about he has the voice of a riot!! and thats a good thing

  • Germans!

  • what the hell is with all these long posts?

Comments are supposed to be short and sweet.

anyway, kinda like the instrumentals. but the vocals, i don't care about.

  • I actually enjoy RATM a lot - but I've always had this unfortunate thought that the lead singer's voice sounds exactly like Adam Sandler. Sorta kills the seriousness of their music for me. Obviously not any fault of theirs, thus, why I say it's unfortunate.

  • Hmmm weird doesnt sound nutin like adma for me

  • ha hah he looks like henrik larrsson

  • thats my thoughts exactly

  • i was thinking exactly the same and then i read your post haha

he does sound like mr sandler no matter what anyone else says.

  • u really should listen to the text, it has really great springsteen-lyrics

  • amazing

  • ...................its impossible to logically comment on such a completely fucking retarded comment.

songs get passed down through generations ..did u expect noone to ever cover it? your lucky rage did it & fall out boy.

  • Consider the fact Tom and Bruce are good friends and have played this song in a different version together... Covers are not meant to sound like the original... Rage added their own style and feeling to a great song. They didn't kill anything, they only made a more powerful song.

  • No I'm not a fucking idiot... I happen to disagree with you. Is everyone that disagrees with you is considered a "fucking idiot" ? I think the rage version of this song is a powerful one. You may think that they butchered a great Bruce song, but Bruce happens to like it. So looks like Bruce is a "fucking idiot" in your eyes too huh? How about this... You're the "fucking idiot"... I am not asking if you are... I already know you are. Your comment proves that clearly.

  • ryno, you very well might be the dumbest individual on the face of this earth.

  • That is one hell of a statement... I am the dumbest individual on the face of this earth because? I typed a constructive sentence with an arguement? Enlighten me please... I would love to hear your reasoning as to why I am the dumbest individual on the this earth...

  • Fucking idiot.

  • hey there ya go...way to be a toatal douschebag!

Bruce is CooL as Hell, but RAGE is a group of REVOLUTIONARY MINDS!!

  • Then it don't matter. I'll be all around in the dark - I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look - wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build - I'll be there, too.

  • This song isnt really from a modern perspective, it was originally done a while ago by bruce springstein.

  • Well looking at the current crisis that the world's economy is in, I think this song will have some great significance soon.

  • Heh "Che" take a look at some of Sub Commandante Marcos' videos of south america.

Its already here...it already has great signifigance.

  • A song about economic depression, un-employment and travelling to find work..........covered from a modern perspective!

  • I like Zack's dance at 1:34. (The cross country skier.)

  • Gotta love Morello's dual penis guitar.

  • it's a gibson S,G but OK, dual penis works.

  • wow your a fucking faget

  • from 2:56 to 3:03

  • he looks so funny when he said u'll see me and the the camera is going back and forth on his face.he looks constipated lolololol

  • "And The highway is alive tonight, Nobody's foolin' nobody is to where it goes, I'm sitting down here in the campfire light

Searchin' for the Ghost of Tom Joad."

  • rage rules

  • RATM + Bruce Springsteen song = good times :D

  • Comment removed

  • Like that needed proving XD

  • sure springsteen wrote the lyrics but ratm made it a good song

  • hOw? thats all i have to say. How the fuck do they suck?

  • i was kidding. i love rage. i just like to se how many people freak out when i say that.

  • we are all gonna die...soon

  • WELCOME TO THE NEW WORLD ORDER!

  • 97 version is more legit

  • RAGHH!

  • WELCOME TO THE NEW WORLD ORDER!

  • I really hate it when people slag something off and don't get their facts right. Who the fuck is chad? The rapper is called Zach and he doesn't think he's the greatest thing ever. He is passionate about his music and that might cause him to appear cocky. And to be honest if he is, then he has every right to be, RATM are one of the best bands of all time and Zach De La Rocha is probably THE best political lyricalist of all time.

  • i was talking about nickelbacks massacered cover of this song Chad is their godawful "singer". i personally love zach and am a huge RATM fan and his lyrics are simply amazing "Freedom" was the greatest song ever written!

  • i totally agree with you but so is serj tankian, and you you dont know most people dont for some rreasone all the songs on the rennegades are covers

  • he didn't even write this song bruce springsteen did

  • well,

john steinbeck wrote a book caller "the grapes of wrath" (tom joad is a main charachter)

it was made into a movie

woddy guthrie made a song about it

his song inspired bruces song with the same title

and then rage used the lyrics for this version :D

  • A must read book

  • Tom morello rocks!!

    Simple as that.

  • wtf is Tom doing with a dubble guitar? :p

  • one neck is lead guitar and the other is rhythem...i think...xD

  • Wow...

  • haha yeah no doubt! wow... BOTH their comments are rediculous

  • ones a 6-string, ones a 12-string...

  • was für ne schlacht, leider viel zu kurz

  • u know, u don't need that type of guitar to do this song, u could just buy an octave pedal. The second head has a second string set that is set in an octave higher. The octave pedal does the same thing without adding more strings. just the sound.

  • Maybe he likes playing on a double neck?

  • i know. i was just saying that so people don't think they need a double neck to do this song

  • he doesn't even play the 12 string neck

  • Because that part where he plays the 12 string neck, totally didn't happen.

  • It didn't happen man!! Tom's using some crazy effect where it LOOKS like hes playing it but he's actually not! You know how Tom is...

    ...yeah your right, missed that

  • meh, your both wrong. He didn't use the other neck for THIS song. He has the other neck so he can have 2 different tune settings, so he doesn't have to switch so much.

  • Now YOUR completely off buddy. This song is is Drop D tuning. He uses the 6 string neck for most of the song, but when he wants an octave effect, like he did at 1:57, he uses the 12 string. Note the 12 string is also Drop D. So now, go to 1:57 and you'll see him use the neck. Also note the octave during it. Digitech Whammy? I think not. 12 string neck.

  • YEAH thats exactly why, so carry two guitars at once to save the HUGE TRIP of a roadie throwing a guitar over his shoulder?

you young fucks don't know anything

  • at 1:57, he clearly uses the 12 string

  • I realize that. Didn't you see my other comment buddy?

  • no. sorry. my bad.

  • you should look at the video of Tom Morello performing this song with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Tom's second solo is amazing! :D

  • yea it fucking is

  • Tom morello's guitar was awsome!!!

  • wow good sound

  • excellent band RATM, excellent cover of an amazing song by Sprinsteen, about an inspiring character from a superb novel. kudos to all involved for keeping the ghost and spirit of tom joad alive!

  • what literary work is Tom Joad from. I'm an Englist major and dont know this one.

  • Tom Joad is the main character from the John Steinbeck novel The Grapes of Wrath, he is like a union organizer in the dust bowl era who stands up for the oppressed. The amazing thing is that Springsteen wrote this song and not rage! It is such rage song as well!

  • thank you Vinny - much appreciated. Ive read some Steinbeck, but cant recall Grapes too well.

really appreciate that - will have to read that novel (again?) - loss of brain cells hurts.

and you are certainly dead fuckin on - lyrics suit the Rage version much more that Bruces (no offense to Bruce whatsoever - not a bruce fan, but the guy has some great lyrics)

  • i saw nickelbacks version of this song and it was relly good....NOOOOOT !!!

  • heck yeah

  • ya got that right

  • Who is Tom Joad?

  • Tom Joad is a character from the book "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck

  • yeah nickelback also ruined 'sad but true' by metallica, i about wanted to throw up after it.

  • Whatever you do DON'T go to the link of Nickelback doing the RATM version to the right....

    I almost vomited with disdain.

  • It would be almost good were it not for the whole the singer thinks he's the greatest thing ever thing. the guitarist actually pulls it off, but yeah chad raped the song horribly

  • dumbass, u dont know shit

  • SHOW IS THAT ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY

  • Zach looks so fucking stoned there XD

Probably is though. Meh. Ratm ftw

  • i highly doubt it

  • you know... people always bring up the politics of rage against the machine, but really? if they were so hard core communist, anti-capitalist, etc... do you think they'd be living in beg fuck off houses in california? you think they'd be letting sam goodie (best buy, whatever) take 20 bucks for each cd? you think they're any better (politically) than any other musician?

cause they're not. they laugh all the way to the bank, kids.

(yeah, i got the albums, the 'merch'. just like you.

  • it's really easy to judge someone when they've managed to put themselves out there. rage against the machine have been successful at expressing their message and they have done so in earnest. there is no reason to attack their character, what you should be doing is focusing on the issues they've managed to address in their music.

and for the record, it's music, not serious business. and that's a criticism i that both you AND ratm could benefit from hearing.

  • well la de da, they've addressed issues. good for them. too bad that while they were at it, they weren't changing anything. getting arrested for illegal concerts isn't going to make us better, telling everyone how shit life is or was elsewhere won't make us better.

and selling your music for far too much- so really, the only ones with access are the ones too comfortable with how it is- isn't much good either.

so really, as i see it, steal it, burn it, distribute it, bump it in the street.

  • They live in a capitalist environment. It would be impossible to get their message out of they didn't work in the system they live in. What are they going to do? Go to every street corner in the country and sell CDs they themselves made from scratch?

  • don't see why not. and check that out- saves on production costs, art, marketing; everything that makes the industry suck.

  • I think the point your missing, is not whether or not themselves have made a great political difference but they have addressed point, and have inspired a new generation to see the problems and find solutions to them.

  • Nah, I think they just inspire people to blindly hate the system.

  • they dont make the prices, and yeh they live in big houses, so what, theyve worked hard to earn that, its the music industry thats corrupt, do you think tom and zack see all that profit? no

  • Too true

  • I believe Zach actually lives pretty simple still but whatever :P

  • i have never seen tom using a double neck! kick ass!

  • Who's ready for a revolution? I am. "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable". John F Kennedy

  • Bruces original is realllly too mellow. the song portrays people being battered and trying to be free it mind as well be sung with a lot of anger like Zach does it.

  • agreed

  • this music is gooood

  • much better with bruce springsteen. love rage but love bruce more

  • Wheres the bass?

  • I heard it pretty well. maybe there's something wrong with your speakers?

  • you're right it is quite weak, compared to the album version

  • feels weird seeing tom playing a double neck, but he looks fucking sweet playing one

    RATM rules

  • Yeah, and now they're gonna peform at PinkPop, in Holland in june or something, where I live :)

  • gotta love the gibson EDS

  • Yes I Agree

  • What kind of key you think this song is in? I'm guessing maybe a C major Key, Perhaps but I'm not sure.

  • Naw, it's D minor.

  • Thanks Man

  • every rage song thats in drop d is always in d major or minor. i figured that one out a while ago.

  • Alright Thanks I was wondering whether it was or not. Gotta Love rage

  • "WELCOME TO THE NEW WORLD ORDER!"

  • most people are robots now!!! and the ones who want to bring it raw have been put to rest with there silence. game is over friends and understanders. no more freedom of speech no more tom joads left no more noooo more re more

  • best performence ever of "the ghost of tom joad"

  • NOW THATS FUCKING KICKSASS!

  • "The Highway Patrol chopper coming up over the ridge

Family sleeping by campfire under a bridge"

  • this crowd is fuckin dead

  • they sure are

  • yeah

  • "Welcome to the New World Order!!!!" that´s what cops tell turists coming into the US at customs.

  • seriously

  • teenage angst. no real pain.

  • What´s Zack been up to ? Last I heard he was like singing at Mexican "bautizos"...

  • Well he's reunited with the rest of Rage and they've played three amazing shows.

  • dude, he was actually doing Son jarochos...but he's reunitedw/ the band I know cuz i saw them two weeks ago.

  • dude, a bautizo is a baptism

  • PLEASE! Don't compare RATM and Springsteen! that's pointless , hardly the same song only the lyrics really. (and I HOPE you didn't MEAN "they do this DONG better?... haha just kidding man) no really leave them both to be what they are but I'd have to assume you prefer RAGE over the "boss" in general.

  • yeah. Springsteens version is an introspective and tired lamentation, in RATM's version Tom Joad regains his fighting spirit, his ghost is not the whisper of the boss's campfire song. He's pissed and raising his fist.

  • Dude I love you

  • Do either of you even know who Tom Joad is?

  • He's a fictional character from John Steinbeck's

    "The Grapes of Wrath"

  • Actually Springsteens version was the first version. This song is a remake.

  • never said it wasn't. i'm just saying bruce's version is a campfire whisper, in rage's version (their cover) Tom Joad is yelling and pissed off.
