  • This Van Zandt is Donnie, the LS singer is his younger brother Johnnie. Original Skynyrd singer is the oldest brother Ronnie van Zandt ( RIP).

  • Strange how that "useless" Van Zandt has been singin' for Lynyrd Skynyrd for YEARS now. Shmuck.

  • dude it's called a radio reciever. god man you're retarded

  • My friend, if you think that guy's signal is actually being picked up, then you are the fucking retard!

  • f u.

  • 38special w/the outlaws 1980 my first concert of many it was at nassau col. long island .they sounded just like this cool

  • this song reminds me of the 80,s movie spring break use to be on usa back in the 80,s if i reamber correct a lot of their songs were on that movie any one disagree with me good:)

  • nobody remembers "little sheba" by 38 special, released in the late 80's.??

  • i remember it. personally i like the 70s best. ever heard "i been a mover" from 79?

  • I hadn't untill now. very cool. I didn't realize they had albums in 1977 - 79. It was around 82" - 83" I bought this album.

  • i saw them last night and they were awsome!!!!! got a couple pics too :)

  • I'm goin to see em tonight!, in about 10 minutes

  • I seen 38 in 1983 at the mid south colisem seemed evryone in the audiance had a fith of wiskey!!!!

  • Great video footage. Does anyone remember the song "little sheba" ? Late 80's. can't find that song anywhere. used to be played on the radio everyday back then.

  • wow, the van zants have their hands in 2 of the greatest southern rock bands

  • That guy with the hat would be the brother of the legendary Ronnie Van Zant.

  • This band was so underated those wild eyed southern boys can rock I'll tell you what !!!!!!

  • When this came out we were riding the Zingo and the Himalaya at Bells in Tulsa Town!

  • Ok Guys. Remember Cruisin ,Crankin Wild eyed southern boys up drinkin beer out of the igloo we hid in the bed of the truck or trunk. Raisin Hell and havin a good time!!

i would love to put some of these on my myspace page, and I wish Johnnie and Donnie would do another album together

    God bless always

    Karen

  • Whatever happens to all the back-up singers? God I hope these two don't have five kids, weigh two hundred pounds and shop at Wal-Mart.

  • I think that the backup singer on the left is Dale Krantz. If so, she married Gary Rossington years ago and is singing backup for Lynyrd Skynyrd!

  • Who was the one on the right...she was hot!!

  • the one on the right looks like Katey Segal but I don't know if she worked w/ them.

  • Dale Krantz was, by the time "Hold On Loosley" and "Wild-Eyed Southern Boys" came out, already fronting the Rossington Collins Band, whose second (and final) album came out the same year as "Wild-Eyed Southern Boys", that being 1981.

  • How'd she look?

  • She didnt look as good as the noon special..LOL..

  • Donnie Van Zant can sing. In fact, he did all the vocals on the first album. Don Barnes emerged as the dominant singer when the radio hits started breaking through, but Donnie Van Zant still sings many of 38 Special's songs.

  • dream on ... even Donnie has talent... and you? well... we will never know.

  • I saw them in the early 80's when they opened for Molly Hatchet. Jimmy Farrar was the singer then and the crowd kept booing and yelling for more 38. They always put on a good show.

  • I get to see them this year at Country Jam in Eau Claire...

  • yeah im going to watch them tonight

  • wild eyed southern boys hell yeah. yankees need not apply. woohool

  • yeah i just saw them with styx and reo speedwagon in gilford new hampshire, lol it was rockin they all played just like the albums

  • the Van Zant brothers are the most respected singers around

  • haha yeah nobody beats skynyrd

  • almost as good as skynyrd

  • Keyword: ALMOST

  • Who opened up for them in 1981? My dad saw them back during their Wild-Eyed Southern Boys tour but can't remember who opened for them. I did some research but can't find the opening band. Thanks in advance!

  • natucket

  • I remember John Waite opened for them around that time when I saw them in Asbury Park NJ.

  • i Saw them yesterday. they were AWESOME!

  • thanks, my mom is a big fan of .38special and was ecstatic when she found they were playing near us. I will fan fgun too

  • i agree kb65, so true, either listen and enjoy, share some memories or go on to something you like

  • You guys are all idiots. I you were a southern boy back in the day you would be enjoying this. This brings back some good memories. Keep on being idiots and I will keep on enjoying.

  • Great Song From one of my fav southern rock bands, show some respect to 80's, 70's rock there are people(like me who get offend when ass holes(people who like new rock) come in here and write bull shit comments. stop it.

  • Yeah, really. I wish people would show respect to 70's and 80's bands like Dead Kennedy's, Bad Religion, Sex Pistols, Ramones, 999, GBH, Stray Cats, The Damned, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Specimen, The Cure, Missing Persons, Adam and the Ants, X-Ray Spex, The Specials, Madness, and Generation X. People need to stop all the bullshit! I mean, there's nothing wrong with southern California punk rock at all!

  • i love the south

  • Comments should be disabled all together on Youtube. Why the hell would anyone waste their time talking shit from behind a computer keyboard. No gain in that what so ever.

  • Just to mess with people who take this garbage seriously.

  • This has been pretty funny. I don't think all whites are racist (I'm of British Isle origin myself). I just think its stupid that many blacks, particularly working and welfare class blacks call themselves, "niggaz" and working and welfare class whites, particularly southern ones, call themselves "rednecks". Keep on putting yourselves down, y'all.

  • This has been amusing, but whatever.

  • I guess I always wonder why people "troll." It's fascinating to me why people who dislike a certain band come to videos of the band and post. Do you really have nothing better to do? I am neutral about the band, to be truthful. They have one song I like a lot. The rest of their music just reminds me of a good time in my life. That's why I am here. But why are you people who dislike the band here? Aren't there bands you like? Why not hang there?

  • without selling out completely , these guys had so many hits! Even the b side songs are Grrreat!!!. ROCK ON GUYS!!

  • These guys need to shave. And while they might be decent guitar players, they need to learn how to write real southern rock music, not this fake-y citified garbage. Their songs sound as if they only heard a couple of southern rock songs on the radio before. Lynyrd Skynyrd blows their ass away and Skynyrd is only ok. Allman Bros. and Marshall Tucker Band puts them both to shame!

  • LOL! loosen up! Its good beer drinkin music........ (sayeth the southerner...)

  • Sure,... after a case. LOL!

  • You're pretty funny for an idiot.

Case you didn't know.... Donnie Van Zant from 38 Special is the brother of Ronnie and Johnny Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd as well as the cousin of Jimmy Van Zant. To call them fake is a good indication that you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

  • I'm also funny for a genius too, bitch!

Uh, yeah, I knew that Don was the bro of the real songwriter Johnny, and Don pretty much just rode his coattails. .38 Special sux big ole ethnic phallus, they sound like southern rock with way too much influence from record execs, you know, pandering to the lowest common denominator. They are fakie sthrn rock. Yes, I know exactly what I'm talking about. I've talked to many sthrn rock fans that say .38 Special is a wannabe group.

  • Yes, you're funny for a bitch too junior....

    Real songwriter Johnny??? What???

Pandering to the "lowest common denominator"?

No dipshit, you really DONT know WTF you're talking about.

Post away punk. Everytime you do your ignorance shows through.

  • Go suck a dick, bitch! .38 Special is trailer park rock! I guess there's a place for low class bullshit like this, in the tape decks of baccer' dippin, meth snortin', sister fuckin', KKK rallyin' trailer trash. Yeah, I'll go ahead and stereotype, even if it isn't 100% true, it pisses shitheads like you off! LOL!!! Go listen to some fuckin' Tim McGraw, you fuckin' retarded hee-haw!

  • ur a fukin dumass nurd.go fuk urself bich!u lik faget music and not reel rok!bein a rednek aint bad at all at leest i aint no faget ass nigur dik suker!deejmic is rite u dont no nuthin!go bak north u yankey and quit sukin nigur dik!u prolly voted 4 that fukin porch munkey obuma!

  • LOL...Hehe... .the lowest common denominator is obviously you.

The idiocity of people like you is something to behold.

I'm glad God created people like you to laugh at. Makes it all worth while.

  • You're the real idiot, I'm just doing a bit of trolling on a shitty video to irritate assholes like you. I'm the one doing most of the laughing!

  • Dammit! My drunk ass cousin got on the computer last night and didn't sign out as usual! So I posted under this name. He loves .38 Special, he's one of the reasons I post shit on here. It makes him so mad. He also loves other white trailer trash shit like Craig Morgan, Zac Brown Band, Foriegner, David Allan Coe's racist shit, Skrewdriver, Tim McGraw and other crap. Fuck you hix! Go fuck your mama again (and we're pretty sure he actually has!)

  • well i was going to reframe from typing. But yer stupid azz had to throw the redneck card on the table... So see i can make you understood this. They say Lil Kim of N. Korea has missle that can reach Cali. . Thinking if he has 2. 1 for southern cali. and 1 for san fran. Well will not you miss you hollyweird people at all.. any of these banks you listed still around or was it a punk faze? yeah thaz it a cali. faze. gone like the wind. God Speed Lil Kim. have at them fool's

  • That's the kind of ignornant shit I'd expect from a sister fucker like you. Oh, and by the way, .38 Shitfuck may still be around, as has beens and wannabe nostalga acts.

BTW, I'm living in hee-haw land right now, I'm not in Calif. Maybe you should go to N. Korea and let Mr. Kim Il fuck you up the ass. You'd probably squeal like a pig and like it!

  • I'm so glad i could touch a nerve my lil kid friend. in hee haw land. well i bet you dont go runnin you gator like this in hee-haw land and you would surly end up with a good azz whipping. so you do it on a puter screen, where in hee haw land you at? Roll on Scooter.

  • I've whipped quite a few redneck asses in my lifetime, but only because they decided to act stupid and attempt to punch first. I don't generally go around picking fights in trailer trash bars or even on here. I just made a few comments about the shitty muzak .177 BB Gun K-Mart Special makes and you have to go and threaten to "whup up someones". You didn't really touch a nerve, seems like I touched one with you. Ha ha. Go do some meth and eat my cum out of your mama's cunt!

  • Scooter..... umm how does sayin. if you ran round in hee-haw land runnin you shoot gun mouth, writin checks yer BB Gun azz cant cash. come out as i threaten you??? I've never seen Meth... doobie brother's & the Eagles. some fine bands. The FBB... well i hate to inform you umm Gram Parson was born and raised in citrus county Fla. So yes they heard Gram and said we should sound this good/ copy his style... Gram also attended the Bolles School in jax. Fla. talk bout someone mom. behind a screen!!

  • Hey people i was jes tryin to get a rise out of the lil kid. prolly been in the 5th grades 7 time's over. As i got family in Cardiff By The Sea. Ca. L.A and San Fran and Lincoln city / Portland Or. well even Vancover Wash. I wonder if Scooter kiss's his mom with that mouth? surly in need of some home training or skooling..He realy needs to be skooled by someone and well i guess i will let someone else tend to scooter. as he aint worth me time and he surly cant afford the bill for my time.

  • Trolling at your age???? WOW! You really are a loser! Bet you've never seen an undressed woman besides your mama have you loser boy.... didn't think so. No real woman wants a pindick like you. HAHAHA!!!! LOL.... you're a douchebag.

  • Go get fucked boy. Unfortuantely, I've seen too many undressed women. I've gotten to the point where I've realized that "casual sex" is a pretty disgusting "sport". Pindick? Please, I suppose you go around assuming guys who make a comment you disagree with has a "pindick". It's been proven that guys that go around putting down people's dick size usually feel very inadequate about themselves. I troll a bit here and there just to get a rise out of turd balls like you. Now go eat yr mom out.

  • By the way, tell yr mom to go take a shower and wash that thing out, she stunk so bad, that I couldn't do it.

  • Funny... your a 34 year old and still a little punk ass bitch... you are a nutless wonder

  • You suck good dick, too bad you're ugly.

  • loser

  • blah blah blah, shove it up yr asshole!

  • nah i'll leave that to queers like you and your boyfriend

  • Wow, another redneck who hates homos. You probably hate blacks, muslims, feminists, catholics, jews, hispanics and liberals, too. Besides, go tell your mama to douche, she stanks.

  • you're a bigot. you hate rednecks. BIGOT RACIST!!!!

  • Ha ha ha, you're funny. I don't hate rednecks. I just wish they'd change their racist, enviroment destroying, psuedo-moralistic, sexist ways.

  • racist. no one hates niggers either, we just want them to stop doing all the things we don't like about them. dumbass

  • I love how everyone becomes a racist as soon as they dont like how someone acts.

  • ur rite that fukin musicphan is a dumass!he dont kno nuthin bout good music!he only liks that fukin punk rock and new wav.he sez reel cuntry is only 1 way but i leik all that stuf they play on the radeo not jus the shit that sonds old.hes prolly sum dum colege faget anyway mos colege graduites r gay anyway.

  • Oh, and if you say garbage like, "Well, thay solded millons of rekurds an' I dont see you doing dat none nohow," I'll say, "Some people are fools when it comes to buying things. If you market sculptures made of out cat shit the right way, they'll buy that too." Some A&R guy that was in charge of these guys careers must have been a marketing genius, else they'd still be stuck in Jacksonville saying, "Boss, how deep do you want me to dig this ditch?"

  • .38 special and Skynyrd were innovating with the triple guitar approach, building off Wishbone Ash and the like a bit earlier.

The energy at their concerts was full blown. I saw .38 special 4 times live and would go to see them again and they play with the southern energy. The whole period of southern blues rock was a time of experimentation that was very successful. It was never intended to be British rock or go after that crowd. It appealed to people who weren't Nashville or West Coast

  • Funny, .38 Special seems to use the same kind of lowest common denominator pandering that Nashville uses nowadays. They might play guitar well, but their guitar lines are super cheesy, their tone is worse and their lyrics are horrible. Even bad British rock beats this shit hands down!

  • So many comment on this site just prove the most abundant thing in the universe is ignorance. if you don't like it don't listen to it.

  • excuse you ! j.off.from 3days ago!

Ronnie Van Zant started playing in the panhandle of Florida for free.He went to FSU just long enough to realize he knew more about music than they could ever teach him. He hitched a ride back home to Jacksonville. And the rest is history as we hear it !!!

  • Many Thanks from hometown Jacksonville Florida.

  • I've always found it funny that the bands best adept at playing "Southern rock" were bands from the North or even England! Southern rock from the south is always mindless caveman drivel like this nonsense. "Yankees" and "Limeys" do it better. George Thorogood (The Destroyers) is from Boston, John Fogarty (CCR) is from Berkeley and Jeff Beck (the Yarbirds) is from London. All the talentless droning comes from Georgia and the like (Skynyrd, these idiots, Marshall Tucker, Allman Bros, etc).

  • I disagree, how is Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers talentless, and Skynyrd pretty much invented southern rock.

  • Well, not quite. Southern rock was supposedly an update the old southern music that formed the roots of rock. Therefore, "southern rock" was invented many years before Skynyrd's grandparents were even born. Besides, the English guys, the Northeasterners and the California scene was paying homage to the southern roots of rock n' roll at least ten years before Skynyrd was even born. This is why Skynyrd, Allman Bros, Marshall Tucker, etc. sound so derivative.

  • Sorryyou are mistaken!!! Southern Rock comes from the deep southern blues style of the masters i.e. Robert Johnson. The Flying Burrito Brothers, Eagles, and the Doobie Brothers were considered the West Coast or Progressive CountryThe Almond Brothers and all of those who followed are from the south or southern east coast. It is easy to get caught upin the southern movement,we southerners enjoy it all! Bob Seger a southern brother even though he is from Detroit Michigan.

  • who you say was playin Southern rock?

  • SOUTHERN ROCK FAN: I have +65,000 tunes to share.Find me in Soulseek-> RRemolacha is me.

  • Not only can you see that Donnie's guitar is powered, but if you actually listen while you watch, you can hear the chords he's strumming and you'll notice that there are 3 distinct guitar lines besides the bass. Clearest examples are in last 30-45 seconds...not that Donnie needs defending.

  • Those Van Zant boys - including Lacy - what a legacy.

  • This was written by a a member of the band Survivor, their big hit was Eye of the tiger,I think I am right ,Dan Peterik is the name ,he was or is good friends with 38

  • You mean Jim Peterik, Survivor's keyboard player and co-producer of some of that band's greatest hits. Jim Peterik also co-wrote "Hold On Loosley" and "Caught Up In You" with Don Barnes and Jeff Carlisi.

  • i saw them live in sandwich illiniose in the sandwich fair. for ffree cuz i was working as a boy scoutthere. it was an awesome concert. even tough they were packed into one small stage.

  • omiddium or omodium, you dont know crap about real southern rock ,donnie is the real outlaw of 38 spec, stone cold believer,im back, slapped in the face till my daddy got strait, all the real s rock songs on every album are donnies, the lovie songs are don b,your not a rocker go play your barry manalow album,i met and talk to 38 spec and don b told me without donnie its not rough housin thats a real opinion.ronnie would slap your fac e if he were alive .mascot ? just shut up .D.V.ZANT real s rocker!

  • scott7088: You got that right ... all the Van Zant brothers kick ass (RIP Ronnie). If I was a man, I would not wanna mess with either of them. I still cannot get over Donnie's resemblance to his big brother Ronnie (RIP) ... especially in that hat.

  • I think you maybe mistaken. If you see what I said (originally) then you most likely would have to say that I'm right. See my comment made on the song "Like No Other Night" by this same act... as there are others as well...

  • I actually love that guitar tone. It's fat and choppy.

  • Great live band- saw them in about 1983 at the Omni in Atlanta. Great show.

  • gotta love that chick's nipples.

  • good ol southern rock!!!!

  • Listen to the live version of "Stone Cold Believer by .38 Special and you won't say that Donnie is a "waste of space". He is not and you are wrong. I some cases he's on stage in a "sort of mascot" role. But he can sing.

  • I somewhat have to disagree with your last statement. Yes, it's most likely "plugged in" but it's in a somewhat "toned down mode" so as to not "overshadow" Barnes and Carlisi who is the "driving force" of this particular Southern Rock Band.

Donnie (Van Zant) is "more or less a mascot" in certain respects... (on certain/more popular songs) but (he) does his fair share of "cheerleading" along the way - in a positive way. Therefore he is not a "waste of stage space".

  • This (last statement) is aimed at migo53333...

  • Different Band, Different Style. You can compare no one to Skynyrd. Donnie has my respect.

  • You just wish you had a guitar. LOL

  • holy shit fuckois i read those blocked messages. i feel like you have a lot of unexpressed rage towards some one close to you. I know its hard at first but you need to let down your angry defense and look inside yourself and try to find whats bothering you. If that doesn't work you might need to see a therapist to help you work it out. sometimes it helps to talk to someone.

  • agreed.

  • 38.Specialis AWESOME

  • Chocrai,

I agree, I don't see how these commments fit in here for commments about this song, but I am glad to see Gathol was man enough not to respond to the all the BS posted by fucKOisIAm0666, who obviously was having a bad day, or two !!!!

  • the end was retarded

  • I'm the only "yankee" in my southern family because I was born and raised in Ohio but I sure do love this band! Guess i'm a wild eyed buckeye! Rock on 38!

  • Not sure how these comments fit this song, but ok.............

  • why don't you take the cock out of your mouth and tell your daddy you don't lust him anymore.

  • poopie head. it's free right?

  • it's funny i'm from texas but most ppl wouldn't call me southern, damn democrats, but I so appreciate my dear sister christian sharing this with me. she's awesome. and yeah i'll kick anybody's ass that says she ain't.

  • Gotta check out the 1981 live version of "Robin Hood" recorded at Red Rocks Colo. Southern Rock at its finest. Somebody please try to post this "again" as this video was censored and removed from this site about 90 days ago. Also listen to "Honky Tonk NT Dancer" from this time period as Barnes and Carlisi were on the same page and worked as a "unit" in unison with two kicks ass drummers laying down a solid "fundamental" foundation to keep very tight control of the situation. As Proof Knob Creek

  • drummers are Steve Brookins and Jack Grodin

  • Classic!

  • badass song!

  • i saw them at pier park in pcb flordia

  • i seen them today

  • Someone out there try to find .38 Special performing the instrumental song Robin Hood circa 1981. Certainly some of their best work with Barnes and Carlisi complementing one another on Gutars.

  • van zandts guitar isnt even plugged in...

  • Van Zandt's guitar isn't plugged in? Damn, well, maybe that's a good thing. He should have gotten his brother to play for him, he's better. Besides, what is this song about? Some rednecks that took a bunch of meth and got all wild-eyed?

  • his other two brothers were vocalists....hes in this band because of his older brother....

  • migo, you don't no crap about music or bands ,you dont even make sense when it comes to 38 special or Donnnie Van Zant,he's the only real rocker in 38 ,don't waste valuable time talkin bout something you must not know nothing about. How old r u ,have you really ever saw 38 in concert or met donnie.make comments on Insync or modonna you might know about that !

  • your talking out your ass......i grew up with the best through the 60s, 70s and 80s.....i always loved skynard, outlaws marshall tucker AND 38 special.......i stick to my feelings about van zandt......and YOU dont know what the fuck your talking about if you think because he has a chord connected to an amp, that he is plugged in........your amp has to be powered on to produce sound hillbilly boy......

  • yet you cant spell skynyrd

  • hey blind person, look a little closer or put on your glasses its plugged in and he does play a few chords ,whould'nt you if you where on stage,I'm a redneck and proud of it.Areal redneck is why u have something to eat tonight. So i hope u kick the drugs your doin ,so 1 day you'll understand what this songs about.Go listen to your barney soundtrack.

  • I saw these guys back in June WOW!!!!! Donnie Van Zant was great runnin around almost like he crazy. True professionals

  • "WATCH OUT MOMMA, HERE COME 'DEM BOYS!" GREAT TUNE, TAKES YA BACK TO SOME ASS KICKIN' SOUTHERN ROCK, that only FEW KNEW HOW to DELIVER!
