I use to reel these in occasionally Surf fishing in Malibu. They scav on your bait and get hooked in a leg joint usually. Did bring one in once that actually had the hook in it's mouth. Always let them go as it is an illegal way to collect a crab.

really, cuz if you actually knew what a spider crab looked like, you would know that that wasn't one. spider crabs are mainly found in the seas around japan and china, and have a leg span of up to 4 meters.

unless this is a portly spider crab. but spider crab is generally refering to the japanese variety. so we were both wrong.
