I didn't try to get my group to "vote God out", I simply stopped going to meetings. God hasn't kept me sober for almost 15 years of meetings because I find no credible evidence for any Gods of any understanding. I feel bad for A.A. because I think it's trying to do good things, but it's excluding a growing number of people who reject the notion of a God. Membership in A.A. has declined every year for over a decade according to GSO estimates.
Also.. Tradition 4 (Long form) "With respect to its OWN affairs, EACH A.A. group should be responsible to NO OTHER AUTHORITY than its OWN conscience"... so yeah, quit complaining. And please read up on tradition 11, you'll notice in my videos, my full name, and picture is omitted. :) Namaste :)
Also, Dick B. is intellectually dishonest quite frequently, he is a brilliant man and a lawyer, so I believe he knows what he is doing. He deliberately omits things such as Bill's "off the wall religious beliefs" (See Soul of Sponsorship, and Cheever's biography) and paints him as a born again christian. Mitchell K. and Ernie Kurtz are way better. I will say though Dick's book on Sam Shoemaker is EXCELLENT.
I love Dick B., and his scholarship is high-quality for SURE. However, he IS a christian fundamentalist.. BIG TIME.. and a bit of a zealot, again, that's cool with me, but he is about the most biased person out there. But I am one of those "mystics and new agers" who are spoken out against, I love the lords prayer, but a group conscience is a group conscience. If you disagree with it, go to another group, or vote it back in. "Crafty New Age Spirituality" Please. The Big Book is my guide...
You are making it seem as if by saying a different prayer other than the christian prayer the Lords Prayer you are not then praying to god which is not true. Voting religious prayers out is not voting god out. You are also forgetting that AA has only one ultimate authority a loving god as he may express himself in our group conscience. If the group conscious is to change the prayer. Then god has expressed himself in the group. Try to have faith that god knows what he is doing.
