  • So Maria, like a butterfly, was destined to die yet again. That's pretty depressing.

  • ...for those who don't know what the SH series is all about... go and play super mario's world, and leave the real stuff to the grown up's! Very touchy, sensitive, yet depressing and disturbing games...

  • This seems wrong to me. I don't really play Silent Hill, so I could be wrong. But in this ending the dude killed his wife AGAIN and ran away with another chick! That's screwed up!

  • silent hill 2=best silent hill ever!

  • Maria will follow the same destiny of original Mary, sicked of uncurable disease and died, just because James didn' t accept to expiate his faults.

This will be his punition: lost his wife for second time.

  • @giedisecondo I know- this ending is probably the most disturbing of the entire franchise. All of those horrible experiences he works past in this game he is going to have to relive, and ultimately end up in Silent Hill again. All this and he has no idea it's going to happen. Incredibly dark.

  • I can understand you when you say that James will go to Silent Hill cause Maria will be dead, but i don't think so.

I think that Maria will be sick, like Mary. But James will not kill her, i think this ending can also mean that James will be finish what he should have done correctly.

I think that the love of James for Maria will be stronger, cause of his experience from Silent Hill, he will face that.

I think he is not runing away his mistakes, but repair them.

  • @MaskedLeon james will not kill maria?

lol didn't u hear how he said "You better do something bout that cough"

  • The worst ending... but it seems the better...

  • @visioncb U mad. "In the Water" is by far the worst ending, you dimwitted fool.

  • @Majyxs Wtf don't nerd rage over something so random

  • @RossWyatt It's called a nerd rage because it is random. And what else am I supposed to do with a stockpile of useless information?

  • @Majyxs Ignore it like everyone else..

  • @Majyxs

Don't be a fucking moron, 'In Water' is the canon ending, and the best ending. Though, 'Maria' is the second best and almost equally as good.

  • @justaguy600 Don't be a dipshit. They're all canon. We never hear of James again after this game except for the gag in Silent Hill 3. As for the "best" ending, it is by default the 'Leave' ending because it is the ending you get by default if you don't go out of your way to get another. Anyway, the opinion of just a stupid guy doesn't matter to me.

  • @Majyxs

You fuckhead neanderthal. Every ending isn't canon. In Silent Hill 4: The Room it's mentioned that James never returned from Silent Hill. "The best ending, it is by default the 'Leave' ending because it is the ending you get by default if you don't go out of your way to get another." Nice argument, shithead. Your premise and conclusion literally don't intersect, an ending that's easy to get isn't conducive to a canon or high quality ending.

  • @Majyxs Additionally, Silent Hill 2 consistently hints that James came to Silent Hill to kill himself, and the official Japanese novel follows (instead of some faggot on the internet [you]) the "In Water" ending.

  • @justaguy600 For someone who actually thinks he's making any points you are one hell of a dumbass. You can stick those Japanese novels where the sun don't shine, because this is the fucking GAME. Games and novels are a mile apart, and as for Silent Hill 4, it has so many production flaws that it's sources can be labeled as relative. I don't care what you think in any case so fuck off.

  • @Majyxs

Games and novels aren't miles apart. Silent Hill 4 is a really good game which Silent Hill 2 *also* has references to. They're connected just like 1 and 3 are, the concept behind Silent Hill 4 was roughly formed before Silent Hill 2 was even released, (note the trash chute article in Silent Hill 2). There's literally no good reason to not take Silent Hill 4 seriously.

Eat shit, you're wrong and not as smart as me, justaguy600, the genius.

  • @justaguy600 Here's one good reason why not to take it seriously: YOU'RE defending it. Someone who is such a slimy little shitball like you must be too stupid to look at anything objectively. Your argument is strictly subjective now, because if it wasn't, you'd admit that those references were half-assed at best. Nothing worth much merit links the games together.

Your arguments make less sense as they go on. This just shows that you're the belligerent dumbass.

  • @Majyxs

No, that's not right. Direct naming of characters and plot elements links Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 4 together completely coherently. Even if you don't consider Silent Hill 2 symbolism making less sense without 'In Water' being canon ending, it's still the only sensible option to assume it's canon anyway because of the explicit (non-implied) number of references. Walter Sullivan is mentioned by name and James disappearing is stated plainly. You're wrong.

  • Silent Hill is like the ultimate judge.

  • I think James should've said more when he killed Mary again. I mean to kill her... again... must be incredibly hard to do... shoulda had a scene where he's just like crying when he was about to pull the trigger on his gun at the boss scene.

  • @Angrypanties99 well technically he's killing maria, his projection of mary.

  • It all goes back to that ethical dilemma found in note at the hospital, where a doctor questions why he must bring a delusional patient - who is happy in his delusions - back to painful reality. Clearly in this ending, James would rather stay in his delusions.

  • @seyallica i liked how every element of silent hill seemingly came from james' subconscious. Like how in the hospital there were records of patients whose behaviour mimicked that of james: persecuting themselves out of guilt, results in volatile/aggressive behaviour.

  • @seyallica i liked how every element of silent hill seemingly came from james' subconscious. Like how in the hospital there were records of patients whose behaviour mimicked that of james: persecuting themselves out of guilt, results in volatile/aggressive behaviour.

  • This ending shouldn't be taken literally. There's no such thing as James going off with to live with Maria because she dosen't really exist. This ending symbolizes how James is burying his feelings of guilt instead of confronting them, and thus chooses Maria, an illusion(tranquility), over reality. Thats why he will relive his ordeal in Silent Hill all over again, until he learns to confront his guilt. Notice that at the end of this ending, he is still in Rosewater Park, still in Silent Hill.

  • In all of the endings but "Leave", he seems to try to solve his problem without a good result. The "In water" ending sees him killing himself, In the "Rebirth" ending he refuses to let Mary go and he stays in Silent Hill, and in this one he replaces Mary with Maria, who was shown even before the ending (When she stayed in the hospital room to rest and took all those pills) and that history will repeat itself. I'd say "Leave" is the best ending for SH 2

  • This is a bad ending because unlike the "In Water" and "Leave" endings, James does not come to terms with what he has done; he is quick to dismiss "Mary" as an illusion, and seems to still need Maria, even though she is simply a projection of his desires. Thats why Maria starts to cough at the end, implying the cycle is going to start over, because James still has not come to terms with his murder of Mary.

  • "you'd better do something about that cough...... Don't make me get out my pillow!!"

  • @alec4prez That's awesome :P

  • He tapped an illusion LOL

  • Think about Maria is spanish.for Mary. A new Mary.

  • I am shocked that a lot of people haven't realised that Maria was the first playable antagonist in this game series. No one else noticed.

  • @rrod197

???? yeah we do. its harry from the first game... well actually he adopted her because she was the spawn of alessa

  • remember though guys. in silent hill 4 the rooms, there is a picture of the silent hill lake in Henry's apartment. its above the sofa in the living room. if you examine it, henry says that the owner of the hotel's son, James Sunderland dissapears in Silent Hill and was never heard of again. And yes, the hotel owner of silent hill 4 is James's father.

  • @theexile909 ahhh!! i thought it was the son of james xD

    tnx for the info~

  • @aspinia come to think of it...silent hill 3's main character IS a girl, an I don't think we learn about her parents do we? Thats odd...

  • My sweet Maria, I love her. I mean, she might become a demon but just because she's trapped in Silent Hill, once she gets out of there with James she will have a short but happy life, she might be strong enough to have a child before the disease kill her, rejecting treatments to keep her alive in order to save her unborn child or something like that. I imagine a plot where Jame's daughter is afraid of James because the 2 women he loved were identical and both are dead and a new nightmare begins.

  • I think I would like Maria as a normal human being, and not as a figment of James' imagination or a monster sent in by Silent Hill to imprison him, but I would never want the two as a couple. No. I like the "Leave" ending best. Because at least then he accepts what he's done and (hopefully) adopts Laura, which his wife had wanted. Sorry, McLaren, if it seems to "Hollywood" for you, but it *was* the first ending, so I'm going with that as meaning it's the *main* ending, thank you very much. ;P

  • i think Mary is illusion of James pain

because he killed her and he couldnt live with it

so he was watching for clues of her life.

and in the end he killed his punishment and fuond his new life.

  • Comment removed

  • James can never win could he? Always end up with a sick woman.

  • Am i the only one who gets goosebumps/chills while watching the end of this?

  • Maria is everything James "wanted" Mary to be. Maria is the "rebirth" of Mary, further proved by the fact she has a butterlfly tatoo, which in a number of cultures symbolises "rebirth."

"And so I wait, wrapped in my cocoon of pain and loneliness."

Mary was the caterpillar, wrapped in her cocoon of pain and loneliness, who died and became Maria, the butterfly. This could explain why Maria is so disoriented, as she's just coming out of her "shell."

  • @LLLookAtYouHacker

Also note the black moths "which represent death" in room 202, are identical to the black moths the Maria demon spits forth, which I postulate are responsible for killing the butterflies in room 202.

Their presence in Maria seems to suggest the ending of her humanity, however much of it she had to begin with. Also the cage could be representing her feeling of "immobility", caused by her terminal illness.

  • @LLLookAtYouHacker thx dude,I wanted to find out what actually was the meaning of the existence for maria when the focusing is on mary and james sunderland! I guess this IS why maria is in this mess

  • And this proves he didn't learn anything at all. >___>

  • I always wondered what kind of car James had drove, it looks linke a vintage late 60s to early 70s vehicle. Why on earth did he decide to leave it open? That drains the battery! That car will not start by now if there is an overhead light on the headliner, but maybe I'm wrong, because in Silent Hill, tie slows down! And I wonder if that van belonged to Angela's abusive lumberjack father whom she killed before coming to Silent Hill. Perhaps she ran away while driving that van to avoid murder.

  • Pyramid Head gets home, drops the Great Knife, '...man that knife weighs too damn much...HONEEYYY, I'm home!'

Mannequin Wife from kitchen; "...hello dear...dinner will be re-"...phone rings, P-head picks up...

    "Yeah...Hello?"

"What? ....Damn...OK, I'll be right there."

Hangs up, grabs Great Knife..."Shit this thing is heavy...Honey, I've got to back out!"

Mannequin Wife "Hey! You could help clean the kitchen up before you go...you're the one who wanted to role play and we got caught!"

  • 'You killed Mary AGAIN?"

    Gotta love that question...

  • I think the game would be 10 times better if they just had one truly happy ending. Wouldn't that be wonderful if 1 possible ending showed James & Mary seeing each other, forgiving each other, & living happily ever after? Or perhaps the same thing could happen with James & Maria. It's crushing to see each of Silent Hill 2's plots have such painfully sad stories/endings dealing with his wife/Maria. Mary's letter made me want to cry. I know the game is about Jame's guilt, but the endings are so sad

  • @youarelovedSOmuch

Happy endings are for Hollywood movies. As a matter of fact some movies have been ruined by adding a happy ending because the studio wants it. Watch the happy ending of "Bladerunner" (its original theatre cut) to see what I mean.

Happy endings don't go with Silent Hill. It ruins the whole experience of it as a mindf***

Btw, how could Mary & James be together when Mary is dead? In the Water ending James commits suicide to be with Mary forever. The Leave ending was "happy".

  • O.o i cant believe james killed mary! o.o i was deathly sick when i was 10 but noone killed me! and look at me i recoverd!!! -_- james just makes me wanna punch smtn

  • I think they need an "Angela Orosco" ending......

  • BUT BUT SHES A MONSTER!!!!! aaa sexy monster :D

  • Also holy crap the woman doing mary's voice reading the letter was amazingly good at reading that and sounding so freaking sad

  • Its okay

    I have you

At least..until you get sick like mary and sorry gotta go can't afford it :D

  • This can be seen as a "happy ending", depending on if the player thinks Maria is actually a real person (but since James has seen her die over and over again chances are she's not).

The official explanation for this ending is that James hasn't learned a thing from his experience in SIlent Hill or is in deep denial (he was for killing Mary). Eventually Maria will become sick and die too, making him go through the experience once again.

Maria is what James wanted Mary to be...

  • @McLarenMercedes

"Maria is what James wanted Mary to be..."

Interesting interpretation. The great thing about SH2 is it is a very deep game left open to much thought and interpretation.

I don't see Maria as "what James wanted Mary to be" I simply see her as a manifestation of his raw desire for Mary. I think Maria tells us a bit about the selfish side of James.

  • mary always makes me wanna cry

    specially when she says

" you made me happy "

how could james kill such a person?

  • How do i get the dog ending i keap seaing i only get the best ending

  • man. everytime i hear mary read her letter it always gets me...

  • Maria <3

  • James: You better do something about that cough.

Three Pyramid Head: Here we go again!

    LOL XD

  • i dont get what so scary about this?

  • @daylatedollashort

well, you have to play the entire game if you want to be scared... lol

  • -common maria let's get out of here

    -what about mary?

    -it's okay, she's dead, twice!

  • Maria just has a cold. She's not going to die of whatever Mary died of. Some Robutussin and she's good as new!

  • @OgnarPliskin No i think Maria coughing its because its gonna happen the same as Mary.

  • @royery Nah, they got a cure now. :P

  • My wife's dead...but I have my imaginary girlfriend! w00t!

  • This ending makes James look like a dick xD

  • @Jiyanamiki killing your wife can give people that impression

  • @scullyy Ah, touche.

  • the transcribe is funny... when james said " Yes, i wanted to see you. Even an illusion of you" it transcribed to "i wanted to see you %uh"

  • The growl is so awesome I keep listening to over and over

  • When Maria cough it maybe mean that she has the same disease as Mary and James will kill her meaning that he learned nothing from silent hill.

  • The letter at the end made me cry.

  • @sporecreatorperson lol me to

  • I only just finished Silent Hill 2 again just now but I didn't get the Maria ending which is what I was trying to get on my 3rd (or more) play through. So thanks for uploading this because I'm not sure I want to bother playing the game again right now to get this ending.

P.S. I'm looking forward to Silent Hill 8, I have read that the next game is going to focus more on the psychological horror and is using Silent Hill 2 as inspiration. Should be interesting and hope its better than SH: SM.

  • @leonnasagawa hey I just finished beating it for the 2nd time so far I've got the water and rebirth ending. Go to silenthillheaven (dot) com it will tell you how to get all the ending when your ready to give it another shot. And it's the best silent hill sight ive found for all things silent hill has everything about every game in one site, check it out.

  • @raggamuffin2017 I think I've been there, I like that site if it's the one I'm thinking of. I'm going to finish Amnesia, Bioshock 2 and possible FF13 first before attempting to try and get that ending again. Seems pointless though since you can just watch the ending on youtube though...

  • @leonnasagawa

Yeah shatterted memories wasnt the greatest, at all. Even Silent Hill Home Coming wa sbette rin my point of view. Though I sitll give credit to the Shatterted Memories game, it was sorta fun it's own way. Also the UFO ending was the best yet :3

  • @DeviouslyGoodWorks Problem with games like Shattered Memories is that they are one of those games that has a good story and even the way the story is revealed to you through the use of your IPOD is quite clever.

However the rest of the gameplay is boring, you spend most of your time walking around areas where no monsters will ever appear and when monsters finally do appear, it's a dead give away because everything freezes in ice and your often in a room or place that is safe for the time being

  • @DeviouslyGoodWorks Not to mention that you see only one type of monster through out the entire game and nothing else. I don't mind being weapon-less from time to time (even though my preference is having weapons) especially in games like Amnesia the Dark Descent that manages to do it well.

I felt that even though the game gave you no weapons it wasn't that scary, I'm desensitized to horror games but I still like games that make a good attempt at being scary and has good horror elements.

  • @DeviouslyGoodWorks This game fell short of being scary but it did have good horror elements and I regret not being able to play this game on the Wii (I played it on PS2). I know I've said a mouthful but I had to say this much.

  • my god the staircase sounds in the beginning...

  • FINALLY some intelligent Youtube comments

I like this to be the true ending, because its not TOO dark. Maria is DEFINITLEY a real person. You get her back story in the Born From a Wish edition.

  • I do believe Maria may have been an individual being, a entity within the town. But she took on the form of "Maria"; created by James desire to have a version of Mary back. But her existence in the story represents James delusion, not accepting his role in Marys death. Marias cough means he will go through the cycle again

  • Yeah, I agree. Everything being you see in the town may have been the manifestations of James deepest emotions, secrets, and fears.

Pyramid Head for instance could have been the representation of James like when it rapes the mannequin. It could have been the symbolism of James' sexual desires and how Maria looks like a skank is also James sexual desires.

And how Pyramidhead kills Maria like James killed Mary, but this is all speculation. James is a messed up guy I wouldn't put it passed him.

  • @FeastedUpon Pyramid Head is the embodiment of the characters guilt. In part he/they were the two executioners from SH past. Maria was created from his desire to have a Mary that wouldnt lash out at him like the real one; she is everything the real Mary was not, but also to punish him for what he did. He had to see her die several times, and be powerless to stop it.

  • I have read some of the comments here about Maria, if this was a real scenario occuring in the world (thankfully we are free from psycho bitches who can hang onto stuff and spout bats at you)

Transference - A phenomenon occuring in psycho analysis where the client projects feelings onto someone. In this case James's feelings for Mary being projected onto Maria.

Delusions - If Maria was a figment of James's mind, ever noticed she is killed and james cant do a thing? A bit like Mary's illness?

  • Maria isn`t real she only exists in James mind, when you see Pyramid head kill Maria over and over she never dies. Maria is an image of what James wanted Mary to look like, young and pretty instead of sick and dying.

  • never played Silent Hill b4 but watching this vid and looking at the side bar saying that theirs different endings , makes it look like a good game. ive never played silent hill bcus it always looked like a weird game to me, kinda creepy too. but ive played and beaten Dead Space which is really scary. can any1 tell me which silent hill is good.

  • @OPL21stJS

ppl say the first is the best one. but i liked number 2 and 3 the best. this one (number 2) is prolly the creepiest one.

  • @OPL21stJS 1-4 are really good. people say 4 might not be because its different but i think it had the best story with part 2. so yea 1-4 are amazing. also its psychological horror unlike dead space that relies on jump out scares.

  • @TheMonotonousBastard thnxz for the tip, i just wish i still had the ps2

  • @TheMonotonousBastard Agreed. To be honest, this game isn't really scary. At all, actually. But every time you play through it, unless you memorize every part, then you'll see a door or something and be like, screw it. Not going in there. With Dead Space, something jumps out at you and after getting scared, you continue on.

  • @OPL21stJS ive played silent 1 and 2 , and homecoming. So far i like them all equal. I about to start the 3rd. I hear god things about it. Id say start from one and work your way up.

  • Hey, a hot dog stand. I could use a hot dog after killing a scary lady floating around in a box.

  • Due to the bad quality.. the part "James... You made me happy." made me laugh xD it sounded like Mary was a robot x'D

  • "James... You made me happy."

  • Mary: James, I've been waiting

    James: OH BABY!!! :D

    (sexy music play's)

That would be an ending :3

  • ill call this the insanity ending because james is doomed to repeat the process over and over4 to he dies

  • @negima47 I agree, as perhaps revealed by Maria''s cough

  • the "leave" ending is the happiest ending of all

  • Psssh, this ending is bullshit, the dog ending explains everything in full detail

  • so is maria is a figment of his imagination it means that she will have the same sickness and he will just go through it again.

cause he will have imagined her having the same problems, and the way it looked, they are still in silent hill and he is still being tortured.

  • Because some people doesn't understand about my comment, I hope this is not bad english.

My Fan Made Silent Hill, when Main Protagonist another Henry is "satisfied", that his many enemies are now dead by bad organization, he "celebrate" in pizza, putting mean message to people seeing it which read; "I'M CELEBRATE THOSE UNBRAINED BASTARD'S DEATH" which cause many trouble to him. The cops says, that this stupidity is called unlawful threat, although he wasn't never killed (continued)

  • people at all, at least not concrete murder but anyway it's killing thought. He hates those people because they was made wrong to him; ill-treatment, victim by school bullies, violence aimed at children ETC. Now Henry is not honest himself at all. And therefore my fan made thinking Henry end up in Fog/Dark World because of this/his sins!

Do you all guys think, that it's possible, if this matter in question people would end up in Fog/Dark World, although they aren't (concrete) killer at all?

  • it sounds like shit

  • @kykOo0

So don't watch it ^^ If you think that.. That isn't even a critism

  • If James didn't learn anything in Silent Hill, he'll probably make the same mistake, if Maria got the same disease as Mary did, that is. The whole thing might repeat itself.

  • This is worst ending in Silent Hill 2,because Maria is not real she is born from wish, she is like other monsters, she is James's imagination......

  • I have "In water" ending and i think that ending is the best.

  • meh, I like "in water" better, Maria is a skank.

  • lol at the end you better do something about that cough

  • Silent hill reminds me of the Saw series.

James was sent there to learn from his mistakes.

  • nahhh this more mental shit all they main protegantist is fucked up in some way.

  • Would the ending here show that James hasen't learned anything with his trip to Silent Hill and being with Maria is continuing jame's punishment outside the town with going through the cycle again like he did with Mary ?

  • Basically.

  • @roctar1 You DAMN right it is!!!! =)

  • lol, they are just gunna leave laura in silent hill

  • SH2 was one of the best video games ever

  • I think the dog ending is the best

  • @NoxicV Hell yeah

  • i heard an interesting theory about PH being not the manifestation of punishment and guilt, but the one in charge of enlightening james' mind about his deeds, while maria is not only hope and will to be with mary, but a dillusion that stops james from seeing the truth, that's why PH follows and kills maria even though he had the opportuniyt of killing james instead like in the hospital. But what do u think? i still believe more the original theory of ph serving as crime and punishment

  • I think that PH is james' justifycation in manifest for james' doubt and hatred to mary and his want to end mary but also his want to see her well agen and PHis also his want to share the same fate as mary

  • That theory makes a bit of sense I think. When James finally forgives himself and the Pyramid Heads impale themselves that could mean that James has shown them that he doesn't need them anymore.

  • Basically. If you look at the (badass) quote before the dual pyramid head fight, James explains that he needed Pyramid head because he was week and wanted someone to punish him for his sins.

  • I like this one because I really liked Maria

  • This ending is so sad =(

  • did the cough at the end mean that maria is sick too???

  • Yes, she has the same illness.

  • yea and then the cycle repeats again too ya know, and the same fate is gonna happen to mary too kinda get it?

  • Maria was alive three times because James wanted her to be. The Pyramid Head is a complete forced form of James inner feelings of hate for himself, and it kills Maria multiple times to teach him a lesson throughout the game.

  • yea i know, i just love how silent hill potray things... everything has somewhat a meaning from the main characters feelings, i wish that can happen in real life too...

  • I just dont get how Maria was killed 3 times and she´s still alive. Lol

  • Can someone please explain to me how if Maria is a manifestation of James' mind and thoughts of his wife...how is it possible that she can leave Silent Hill with him? Or is the rest of his life like one huge hallucination? 0.o

  • Can someone please explain to me how Alessa split in two, reformed in the Otherworld, and the baby was able to exist outside of Silent Hill in reality and was actually a protagonist of SH3... let alone how Cheryl was able to exist in the real world to begin with.

Compared to that mess, Maria is not a problem, since she doesn't seem to have even gotten into the real world.

  • You argue a very strong point, but if Maria left with James...obviously...she managed to get in there somehow. lol.

  • the best ending MARIA AND JAMES FORVER!!!!!!!!!!! AND FUCK MARY XD

  • I've just finished the game with this ending. I feel a bit depressed now, but I must say it was an actually awesome game!

  • "Yes, I wanted to see you.

    Even a illusion of you..."

    "It's okay,

    I HAVE you."

    think about those 2 lines..

  • Look up the term euthanasia... She was dieing, suffering, and I guess was making everyone suffer at the same time. James killed her both to put her out of her misery, and to be free of her..... <_< only to be trapped by his own guilt for doing something so horrible.

  • perfekt quallity

  • "Easiest" is right.

  • 1:25 did anyone feel creeped out by that sound in the background?

  • I want this ending, I think it's the best. I tried everything I could to get it, with no succsses. Does anyone have any tips for me?

  • Keep Maria close to you as in don't run too far ahead of her. Protect her constantly. When you tend to leave her in rooms, go back a couple of times to check up on her. And don't look at the letter or picture from and of Mary. That should do it or at least get you closer to accomplishing the goal ^^

  • dude, get a better tv

  • Thumbs up this comment if you think maria had an individual soul.

  • I kinda like this ending. Maria my favoirte character in this game.

Too bad it is just an illusion.

  • Well Maria is real though shes is pretty much just the manifestation of James' subconsious and want he wanted his wife to be.

  • @LordMalice6d9 his wife could have been that, if she would have dressed a little more scandalous and dyed the bottom of her hair pink. XD

  • sounds more like a death wish letter to me
