@redangel6425, i've had mine for 3 months now and only get 5hrs battery life. Started with 8hrs at a push when new. I thought it was the 7200rpm hard drive but i took it out and booted from the drive in a powered enclosure and only gained 1/2 hour. Tested with varrious linux distros and xp, but all the same. I've screwed my warranty when i changed the hard drive, but if i were you i would send it back or ask for a new battery. I fix computers for a living, it has to be a bad battery.
IGNOR that last post. Just re-installed windows 7 and got 9hrs playing mp3 on a loop. It must be that the other operating systems don't use the advanced power saving modes in the new atom cpu's or something. Let me know if you find a solution in ubuntu. Take it easy
4. 1005PE-PU27-BK--same as above but with soft-touch finish on outer cover only (same hard palm-rest). ASUS logo on cover.
5. Asus Eee PC 1008P-KR-PU17-BR--Deluxe Karim Rashid edition ($150 more gets you 2GB RAM, 320 GB HDD and Digi-Wave soft-touch finish, soft palm-rest and Color-shine display.
ASUS really must do a better job of explaining the significance of their model codes and enable shoppers to shop all the available features.
You can spend a whole day studying all these versions of the same basic Netbook based on the Intel Atom N450 cpu. The Deluxe Karim Rashid edition also has higher-resolution camera and microphone BUT only half the battery life. The chic/slim case is apparently made possible by dropping down to 3-cell battery.
The 1001 model has a different keyboard as well. It appears that P vs PE has to do with battery life
So if Asus has a brain, the Ultimate model that everyone knows they want will be: 1010PE-LX 1. carbon fiber-no smudge look of 1001 model 2. soft palm rest 3. high-density, 14hr, 6-cell battery 4. 320 GB HDD 5. 1.3Mp camera 6. Digital array mic 7. 2GB ram installed 8. Chiclet keyboard 9. Choice of color-shine or matte display 10. Intel N470 1.83 GHz cpu ;-)
Create more models, so that people can order exactly the options they like.
Separate fashion and ergonomic options from the hardware choices.
Sure, having myriad options and user-customizable configurations, means logistical headaches for production but that's how you rule the Netbook roost.
i want also that design, carbon fiber look..where did you bought this???i really like this design...and i want to have one also,,,could you help me???NewGadgetsDE...
I believe this is the 1001p not the 1005p or pe which reportedly have a glossy finish and a glossy lcd as well. this model also seems to have a chiclet keyboard, which goes against what we already know about the 1001p, which is reportedly not having a chiclet keyboard.
could you tell me where you purchased this from? Everywhere i look the 1005pe has a glossy top, not this textured carbon fiber looking top. I would very much prefer this design to minimize fingerprints and also it looks awesome. Thanks

IN USA on the Amazon:
1. 1001P-MU17-BK with checker-pattern look as above, "Eee" logo, 1GB ram, 160GB HDD
2. 1005PE-MU17-BK--1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 11 hr battery, shiny everything.
3. 1005PE-PU17-BK--Same as above but with high-density 14Hr battery and Bluetooth (still shiny everything)

1001 has the standard keyboard and matte screen and carbon-fiber look cover & palm rest
1005 has chiclet keyboard and glossy screen
1008 is Karim Rashid fashion model.
P = standard 6-cell batts (11 hr batt life)
PE = high capacity 6-cell batts (14 hr batt life)
MU = 160GB HDD and without Bluetooth
PU = 250GB HDD and Bluetooth included.
17 vs 27 meaning unclear but 1005PE-PU27 has soft-touch matte finish on outer cover.

Is this the 1005P or PE? Because in the title you say PE but in the comments P
rasimjackson 1 year ago
The only difference between P and PE is the harddisk, so it doesn't matter if it is the P or the PE in the video :)
NewGadgetsDE 1 year ago
Yes it does.
The P has a matte display, the PE has a Color Shine glossy display.
The P has flat keys, the PE has chiclet style keys.
The P has 802.11 b/g, the PE has b/g/n.
Also bluetooth is a difference. Or is this just unconfirmed information? You responded really fast!

i really want a matte screen on the 1005pe pu27 that would be the seller for me. i hate glossy displays.
BobTheTwit 1 year ago
Well, the thing is that i bought the 1005PE and mine has a matt screen. I live in the Netherlands where they dont have the Carbon Look.
rasimjackson 1 year ago
This one has mattle display and chiclet style keyboard ? How is it possible if you are saying that P model has mattle display and flat keys ?
Gunner3777 1 year ago
@rasimjackson PE because of the "Carbon-Look"
Marhune 1 year ago
@rasimjackson he said PE on the video too, but he said fast

Of course it's the 1005P :) I think in germany it is available with a non-glossy display.
