  • I love "I have nothing" (崔健) - one of my favorite song all the time. Regards from Poland!

  • I've been looking for good Chinese music for a while now (I'm from Holland). I think I've finally found some!

Rock never die.

ROCK is feeling not tech.

  • @DiabloMercy

搖滾不只是Hard Rock, Metal(metal跟搖滾有很大差別,懂嗎?)

Hard Rock,

  • Comment removed

  • This is such an epic song. I do not speak Chinese but I can feel it. Some songs transcend language, this is one of them. Gives me goosebumps.

  • @ramaskrik Totally, this is a big hit. It sorta demonstrated that Chinese rock music is a serious business.

  • we love you CHUI JIAN you are our inspiration!!! regards from ur fans in SINGAPORE!!!!

  • @wltan8888 guitar player is from SINGAPORE !

  • this guy demonstrates what is true manhood. we need some real man icons not pretty sissies.

  • he sang this song because he loves China. he wanted to give a voice to the new generation

  • powerful voice. i like ka kui's version of this song too- except his mandarin is not so good.

  • i agree

  • No one can sing this song better than him. I have many friends trying to sing this on karaoke...oh my, it's like sky and ground.

  • The song reminds of the Talking Heads...

That's what I was thinking about halfway through the song. And then they started doing the running in place move that the Talking Heads do in "Stop Making Sense" and I was like...yeah.

I don't mean to knock on Cui Jian though. I like his music in its own right, and that horn player is bad ass.

  • @jacda13 Good call. Although rarely mentioned, both Talking Heads and the Clash were the biggest rock influence on Cui. Musically speaking, Cui was a new wave/post-punk musician in his early rock years, and is one of the most successful TH successors, IMHO.

  • He has a voice that NO ONE can imitate.

  • i can imitate his voice

  • bien

  • its a good rock music in china.i like it.

  • how old is this song?

  • 20 years ago... was also sung by those students protesting at Tiananmen Square in 1989...?

  • Catchy!

  • lol I grew up in HK with a British education. I just thought about getting into the chinese metal scene and during my research I learned about this guy and his chinese rock status. I looked for this song for so long, and now that I finally found it, I actually know the song :P.

He doesn't have a bad voice BTW, I like his raw style.

  • "It's not going to be about how pretty the voice is. It's going to be about believing that the voice is telling the truth."

This is what Sam Cooke said about Bob Dylan. Cui Jian is Dylan of China.

  • You could say the same thing to Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Kurt Cobain, just to name a few. But unfortunately, these guys are more significant than many "beautiful" voices.

  • "Personally, I listen to music to sooth my ears and my mind."

    You god-damn philistine.

  • Punk.

  • I think good music is far more than a medium for soothing one's ears, it could function like literature and poetry to assist people seeking truth, criticize the government/society, etc. But prefering 'beautiful voice' to sooth the ears is your choice, we should respect that preference : )

  • That brings back memories! I remember the first time I heard him 20 some years ago. He was awsome. Can't believe it still sounds good. He was really something back then. Where is he now?

  • Wow.His voice shocked me a bit.

    Haha.

Er..Anyone knows what's the name of this concert?

  • i wonder eventually the girl in that song goes with him....

  • Not girl. This songs is about China.

  • The passing of an era...?

  • @uacconly no it about a girl and not china.

this song was related with china because the student protest on tian man square.

the student love the song because of the title nothing to lose.

he also preform on the square.

but the song was release before the protest.

after the protest he did write a lot of song about china.

    like piece of red cloth.

also he never turn rich like other china pop artist.

but his music was supported by a lot of foreign cultere charaty group.

  • @xihangyang bullshit , this song is nothing to do with the tian an men protest

  • @ltq19900310 read it carefully. i say this song got nothing to do with the tian men protest, but he did preform there. people still link this song with the protest but the song was relase before the protest. read. it carefully

  • @xihangyang wrong ,the only song considered to be related to tian men protest is The last gunshot

  • @ltq19900310 what is your problem, this person is agreeing with you! learn to read before you post.

  • he is Chaoxian nationality,

  • that means his ethnicity is korean..the same thing..except he doesn't speak korean......u realize chaoxian and korean are the same thing rite?

  • no, i dont think they r the same thing, actually, they r totally different. but i just told the truth

  • actually he dose speak korean language

  • what?! he is born in beijing OK?and his Nation is korea,it is just a kind of nation in china! but it's does not mean he can speak korean!you are so stupid!

  • go learn more english, please....

nationality means 民族 also means 国籍. CuiJian's nationality is Korean could be mean: 崔健是朝鲜或者韩国人, but also could be translated as崔健是朝鲜族人.

go check out fuking dic, dont play with ur emptiness.

  • what a mad dog said he can speak korean?did you get my point?go learn more chinese!why don't u come to CA and face to me suk your fuking dic!u said i am chinaman!i do not know why u use this word to describe me !but i take pride in the prosperity of our country and i'm chinese!anyway it is better than you cur!

  • and if he could or not speak korean dosent matter with he is korean or not. please be logical, chinaman...

  • what happen if he speak or not korean language,??!the most important is that he sings in chinese.that's why he is a ithe King of Rock in China...!

  • Who said that important he speaks Korean? Noone said that Korean identity is covering chinese culture inside of him. Dont u think u Chinese too sensitive about this?

  • FANG NI MA PI

  • cui jian is the best!!! we love zhong guo

  • 你 in the song refers to who?

  • ahh that is open to interpretation. the ambiguity is probably one of the reason s why cui jian was banned by the cpc for so long. The most harmless interpretation of course is that someone the author's pursuing.

  • Interestingly, I first heard of this song reading a Japanese novel "Battle Royale" in English. There was a translation of the lyrics in English. Since then, this song and CuiJian has grown on me, and this is now my favourite song.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how many English people has heard of CuiJian. Perhaps thanks to "Battle Royale", he is inspiring a new generation.

  • one of the good classic songs, this version sounds very smooth, and country songs kinda feel.

  • wow so great, reminds me of the childhood

If a person is 一无所有, it usually means he has no power, rank, educational attainment, money.

  • his voice kept me up for countless hot summer nights.

his truly a chinese rock star

  • Now your hands are shaking.

    Now your tears are flowing.

    Could be you're telling me.

You love me for being penniless.

  • I tell you I've waited too long.

I tell you my final demand.

I want to hold your hands tight.

You must go with me now.

  • Most important Chinese popular song. Ever. Period.

  • Lyrics continued:

    Penniless

The earth under me is moving.

The water beside me is running.

But you always laugh at me.

    For being penniless.

    Why are you always laughing.

    Why do I always dream.

    Could be in your mind.

    I will always be penniless.

  • Lyrics roughly:

    Penniless

I used to ask you day and night.

When you would go with me.

But you always laughed at me.

    For being penniless.

I want to give you my dreams.

I want to give you my freedom.

But you always laugh at me.

    For being penniless.

  • sing more fucking songs, cui jian!

  • This is a great song! It sounds so moving as if there is a sense of unity is called for? I think the flute sounds like country song! Can anyone tell me the name of this song and the singer??? Even though I don't understand what's he is singing, the sound and combination of instruments make this song interesting!! Peace everyone! Thanks for posting this wonderful song!

  • singer is 崔健

  • couldn't get any better than this

  • yeah,I work the road alone。。。

  • Don't be a moron.
