Fantastic! I used to play this on an Apple II clone in the mid-80's. First time I've heard those sounds since then. The best screen was the bunker where Hitler and (iirc) about 12 of his SS officers were sitting at a table (Hitler in the middle), and then the excitement of planting the bomb and getting out of there asap!
Same here. Those crude but effective 2-bit digitised voices used to scare the shit out of my brother and I back in the day. Also love how the gun sounds like somebody spitting into a microphone. Classic.
What's more amazing is that Silas, the guy who made this would have had to build his own Analog -> Digital converter circuit to sample the voices into the Apple as there was no such thing as audio in / recording back then.
Yeah man .. I remember the voices would make me jump sometimes .. Heh heh .. Trying to be all stealthy or whatever, and .. Yeah, the guard's voice would scare the hell out of me, too ..
LOL! Me too man. I played this at school when I was about 14 and now I'm almost 40! To me it always sounded like "Halt! Old spice!" Yep....cool memories. I still have the big old floppy disc somewhere.
hahaha that's the problem with that game, once you got wounded it's better to start over again. :D
I would do the same with the powder keg.
Actually I kind of preferred the first version of that game. The SS guards would scare the shit out of me as they would appear out of nowhere and shouting!
You can imagine what me and my bro and friend heard, we were constantly stoned playing this game.

The first Castle Wolfenstein was also superb.
