out of this generation, well FFVII was a more toned back, delicate orchestral version, yet still sounds determined and grand towards the end, VIII is very victorious sounding, with the begining being very toned back and building towards the epicness of the ending, IX is very bitersweet and sorowful, AC is brass heavy, grand, stacatto, and sounds as sorowful as IX's. XII is the most epic and grand of them which fits the nature of the game. id have to say IX is the best, then AC, wih the rest tied

FFYears, it's time to update this, because in FF14'S E3 2010, THEY BROUGHT BACK THE FINAL FANTASY THEME BACK! I LOVE IT! ALREADY A GREAT SIGN FOR FF14..13 not having this theme was bad..and the same goes for most of the game..no true exploring, no MP, no limit breaks/finisher (Lightning's 'Army of One' is the CLOSEST to a limit break/finisher..LOL) FF XIV'S theme sounds more of the marching parade kind of way, but I'll take it over having NO theme at all! And I Hope the Prelude returns too! LOL

My issue with 12's FF Theme, is it's the best one on the soundtrack, and the fact that it is the only song done by Nobuo on the entire soundtrack, should explain why.

And lets not forget about FF13 who had all but 10 songs over and over and over...

The FFVIII version will always be my favorite because it was the first one that I heard. I also like the extra melodic section that was added first in FFVIII. The FFIX version is very nice, too.

In all these years, I still believe FF4's version of this theme was by far the greatest, mainly because it was actually used in a cutscene, and also just perfectly fit the start of a grand adventure. Later FFs, I only recall the theme appearing in the ending credits, which came as quite a nice surprise when the second FF I finished was VIII. XII actually tried to improve on IV's version, but I don't like it as much, just doesn't have the epic adventure feel as much when it starts off IMO.

I think you should play FFVI. I'd say VI and VII were the best. You can download a SNES emulator to play it (and you can find good retranslations without Nintendo's idiotic censorship) or you could get the Playstation or Game Boy Advance version. But I'd suggest the emulator/translated Rom.

If you have any playstation systems I recommend getting Final Fantasy Chronicles and Anthology. You'll get Final Fantasy IV-VI and Chrono Trigger. All of them are worth playing. Hell, I've beaten Chrono Trigger 6 times in about 5 months.
